I was browsing a local computer stores web page http://www.futureshop.ca and I found this little bit of information:
World Of Warcraft (PC)
WINDOWS SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
* CD ROM: 4X
* CPU Speed: 800MHz
* CPU Type: Intel Pentium III/IV
* Disk Space: 4.0GB
* Display: 32MB 3D Graphics Card With Hardware Transform And Lighting, such as an NVIDIA GeForce 2 Class Card Or Above
* Memory (RAM): 512MB
* Operating System Compatibility: Win98/ME/2000/XP
* Other: 56k Or Better Internet Connection
MAC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
* CD ROM: 4X
* CPU Speed: 933MHz
* CPU Type: G4/G5 Processor
* Disk Space: 4.0GB
* Display: NVIDIA Or ATI GPU With 32MB VRAM, 64MB Recommended
* Memory (RAM): 512MB
* Operating System Compatibility: Mac OS X 10.3.5 And Up
* 56k Or Better Internet Connection
Now for the CE edition
World Of Warcraft Collector's Edition (PC)
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
* CD-ROM: 16X
* CPU Speed: 2.0GHz
* CPU Type: Intel Pentium 4
* Disk Space: 1.0GB
* Display: DirectX 9 Compatible Video Card
* Memory (RAM): 512MB
* Operating System Compatibility: Win98/ME/2000/XP
Now notice a few differences, the first is that there is no mac requirements.....now the rest the cd-rom speed has increased 4 times from 4 to 16 but there is no mention that you need a dvd-rom for the CE edition that is included. The speed of the cpu has almost tripled in value, the class of cpu is now only a P4 but low and behold the disk space has dropped 3.0GB (totally a space saver) and lastly the video card requirements have now also changed.
So my question is does this mean that the CE edition is all hyped up on roids and the normal edition is like buying a car without any extras? I don't think so but why is the requirements different? Was someone drunk?
Comments
Hehe.. well, yes someone was drunk printing those different requirements..
Check what the Limited Edition includes, and you will see that its no change in the game itself, but you get some extra stuff, like cloth map of the world, signed manual, cool personal pet in-game, etc..
BUT.. perhaps the first (lower) requirements are the "recommended" ones, and the other (higher) requirements are what you should have to be abel to play the game without having every setting at the lowest level..
I think a 800MHz CPU would have to work its ass off with WoW, a 2GHz CPU will run the game much, much better, but to fully enjoy the game i guess you will need a CPU of 2+GHz or better and a "really" good graphic card, like Radion 9000+ or better. The amount of RAM is also very important, 512+ RAM minimum i would say for any MMORPG..

I have a fairly low-end machine and it played the stress test just fine.
Intel Celeron, 800MHz, 256 RAM, and a GeForce 2 graphics card. I had to keep my graphics settings turned kinda low in game, but everything still looked lovely.
Not sure if there will be much change for release, but I don't anticipate too much trouble.
get a sigX of your own!
