I don't see an avoidance in words, all I see in your words is a twisted interpretation of the creators intent, and hey, I will not fault you your view, no matter how twisted it may be, but I still whole heartedly disagree. See, this game works both ways. You see it one way, someone else sees it another.
You are catching on. Different people see things different ways, which is a large part of why the Jedi attempt to enforce a vision of the One True Way is so reprehensible, because there is no One True Way.
However without stating that their way is the "one true way" as you call it, the Sith push their ideals on their initiates as well. Though they might go about indoctrination in different ways, the goal si still the same. You cannot argue for one side and say that they force views on their recruits as you base your reasoning on the "better" ideas of the opposite party. Both sides are fighting for what they believe in, just as people do in the real world. However one side leans towards ideas that lead to destruction while the other side spreads ideas to uphold what by instinct humans are always trying to achieve....peace.
I am simply pointing out that you are putting a value on individual life and therefore neglecting life as a whole. If you believe that the only worth of a cow is simply that you can milk it and eat it then I fear you do not appreciate life. If you appreciate your own life then you appreciate (even if not consciously) life on an empirical level. It is human nature to preserve your own life, but to what end you preserve it is what is important, especially when dealing with the Codes. Though the Jedi stress the importance of sacrifice for the greater good, they understand that without people to sacrifice for, then their mission is slightly paradoxical. Here is your paragraph break...Mr. English scholar. Feel free to correct me on other matters of communication since your intellect and reasoning skills soar above what my little brain can comprehend. As I said before, your logic is impeccable, however you think like a machine, and reason as one. How can you argue for humanities sake if you cannot appreciate that which defines humanity...Life? Though I agree an individual life is precious and worth preserving, I also know that through understanding that an individual life is important, I also understand that Life as a whole is necessary for "any" individual life. Despite the biological necessity of interacting species on this planet I understand the importance of preserving life as a whole, so that it can define the individual life that I hold dear.
Sith miss the meaning of life, they are basic carnivores, they see not a limited supply of material to be consumed but an infinite well of resources. They strive to preserve themselves without care of the very thing that they preserve.
Lol, sorry, not trying to be anal retentive, the occasional paragraph break just makes it easier to read. Anything that facilitates communication is a good thing, right?
Life in the sense you want to use it is probably not something I have the kind of appreciation you would desire for, that is correct. To me, all non-human life has worth only in it's utility for humanity, and all humans whom I have never met have worth only to the extent that their continued existence is beneficial to the people I do care about. These things must be preserved, but not because of some inherent metaphysical value, because if you don't conserve resources you will run out. The success of society is important not because society has inherent value, but because a successful society offers the individual opportunities for greater success.
You argue that Life in some holistic sense defines humanity. I believe that the relationships between people, and the choices people make, are what define us. Passion is what makes life worth living. Without passion nothing else is relevant. If I believed the Jedi code and followed it, I truly would be the computer you accuse me of reasoning like.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.
ummm...I see no kidnapping...just you assigning the act yourself. If parents think their kid is a genius...the kid is "removed" to a special class in school too....not kidnapped.... You are really stretching it now. And avoiding what I said earlier....I'm interested in your reply there too
Yes, *I* am the one stretching here. A kid going to a special classroom during the school day, then going home like he always does, is *exactly* the same as children being taken from their families forever, told they should never see them again, and that caring about them is the path to the dark side. There is no difference at all there....
As for what you said earlier, which particular thing are you referring to, you are one of the most prolific posters in the recent pages of the thread, and I have responded to a fair amount of it.
it is EXACTLY the same....they go to a special school...not a class.....
At the end of the day...they are treated the same as the jedi. Whether allowed to come home every night or not.
seriously...you can't just ignore things because you want to further your arguement....cause then I gotta stop valuing your point of view....which I have so far.
Sorry, thought you were talking about AP style classes within a school. I still disagree with your view on the issue though. Even if someone goes to a boarding school, he is still allowed to see his family on vacations, and after he finishes school. He isn't taught to shun them like some kind of cultist, and I hope in any real schools the students aren't taught that there is One Philosophical Truth, and they are Evil if they don't agree with it and submit in perfect obedience.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.

Nothing I needed to catch. I understand your view, don't agree, and see more of a twisting of what was written/intended than a point of view. You say the Jedi enforce, I say the Jedi teach. I say the Sith do more enforcing, you seem to think they are just fighting the good fight in some sort of twisted way. So, enjoy playing the side of the Sith, I'll enjoy playing the side of the Jedi, and we'll just have to meet on the "battlefield" as it were.
Thanks for the conversation, but now I must get ready for bed, and prepare to be evil in your eyes (it was you that stated you basically felt that it would be evil to sacrifice your life for a stranger, right?), since when I go to work, I may have to risk my life for a stranger. I mean, because being a firefighter bascially makes me evil since I might have to run into a burning house, risking my life to save a stranger=P

I understand your points from what you define as "worth" but I disagree, however I suppose that is only a fair conclusion to such a subjective argument anyway. I enjoy hearing others' views on subjects such as this and I am glad to have shared a conversation discussing it. However it is pointless at this point to keep going on since we have each stated our points and are both hung up on a certain item for discussion that will block the rest of the conversation until it is cleared up. I look forward to watching you defend your views from a far.
Disregarding every other post in the thread, since I do not have the time to read them :P, so I hope throwing my 2 cents in doesn't make me appear totally ignorant.
The sith code isn't what makes them "evil". In the sith's eyes, they are the "good guys", but if you asked the Jedi, then the Jedi would say that they themselves are the "good" guys. It's all a matter of perspective, but by the common description of "good" and "evil", the sith are "evil". By looking at many sith's past actions, and how to you raise in rank as a sith, most people clearly see "evil". While in the jedi order, their actions represent the general "good". Work hard and train, and you raise in rank. This is what makes the Jedi more good than the sith, by the common description/definition of the word "good".
I don't see an avoidance in words, all I see in your words is a twisted interpretation of the creators intent, and hey, I will not fault you your view, no matter how twisted it may be, but I still whole heartedly disagree. The sith code reminds me of what people say about the devil in our world and I can't see how that can be equated to not being evil. But ultimately it is a moot point because we know the sith are the bad guys because Lucas said so and he after all did create the Star Wars mythos.
Easily. There is no requirement that people accept the characterization of the devil that you describe as evil. And Lucas didn't make the Old Republic. It has too much nuance for him to handle.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.

This.
Good night folks!
you can go to bed...your values were disregarded anyway
The fact is.....some things are set in stone as either common sense/fact/moral
You can choose to disagree....but then you can choose to say the Earth is still flat....moron is as moron thinks

Morals isn't exactly set in stone. If you asked Hitler if what he did was morally right, he would tell you yes, because it was for the betterment of his people. If you asked the Taliban if bombing the twin towers was morally right, they would say yes, because they were in the service of their god. It's all in perspective, and on who you ask. Though most people would agree, that those two examples were horibally wrong, in the moral spectrum of things, but some people would say it was right.

Lol, never said sacrifice was inherently evil. Just said it wasn't inherently good. Besides, I am guessing you don't go into the burning house with the *intent* of sacrificing your life, you go in with the intent of coming back out without a scratch on you, with any residents in tow and unharmed, collecting your paycheck, and going home to your family (if you have one.)
I apologize ahead of time if it is necessary for you to fall to my saber, as you provide an enjoyable perspective in conversation.

Who cares about Jedi or Sith. They're two extreme sides of the same coin.
The good life is with the smugglers anyway
Ah, but look at the example of the smuggler in the new SWTOR entry. She acted very much like one who follows the Sith code. In fact, I would argue that many smugglers do a much better job of living the code than most Sith do.

Morals are what you percieve them to be, not set in stone. What you think is right, is not right to some people, what you thing is wrong is not wrong to some people. I'm not talking about "what if" scenarios. Such as "what if raping that girl would later save her life?" because that is irrlevent at this time.

No, you're not seeing it from all sides. You're thinking in a straight forward manner, such as things that I think are right, are always right, and what I think is wrong is always wrong. While you do not think of what others might percieve of your rights and wrongs, because it differs between differnt people. Do you see what I'm getting at?

There is your problem right there. There is no "the moral code." There are many competing moral codes, all with their own perspective on what is moral.
Hell, without you telling us *which* moral code you are talking about, there isn't even any way for us to know that you are representing it correctly, except taking your word for it.

You are catching on. Different people see things different ways, which is a large part of why the Jedi attempt to enforce a vision of the One True Way is so reprehensible, because there is no One True Way.

See....this is why I peed on my TV during the last three Star Wars flicks......

Happy Hunting.

This.
Good night folks!
Easily. There is no requirement that people accept the characterization of the devil that you describe as evil. And Lucas didn't make the Old Republic. It has too much nuance for him to handle.

you can go to bed...your values were disregarded anyway
The fact is.....some things are set in stone as either common sense/fact/moral
You can choose to disagree....but then you can choose to say the Earth is still flat....moron is as moron thinks

Morals isn't exactly set in stone. If you asked Hitler if what he did was morally right, he would tell you yes, because it was for the betterment of his people. If you asked the Taliban if bombing the twin towers was morally right, they would say yes, because they were in the service of their god. It's all in perspective, and on who you ask. Though most people would agree, that those two examples were horibally wrong, in the moral spectrum of things, but some people would say it was right.

where do you immoral people come from...and where should we have isolated the moron virus?

Lol, never said sacrifice was inherently evil. Just said it wasn't inherently good. Besides, I am guessing you don't go into the burning house with the *intent* of sacrificing your life, you go in with the intent of coming back out without a scratch on you, with any residents in tow and unharmed, collecting your paycheck, and going home to your family (if you have one.)
I apologize ahead of time if it is necessary for you to fall to my saber, as you provide an enjoyable perspective in conversation.

Ah, but look at the example of the smuggler in the new SWTOR entry. She acted very much like one who follows the Sith code. In fact, I would argue that many smugglers do a much better job of living the code than most Sith do.

because morals are morals...the moral code is inherent...and not swayed by opinion. You are either morale...or you are not.
It's like asking whether or not you would rape.....morality tells you you should not....it doesn't ask "what if"

Morals are what you percieve them to be, not set in stone. What you think is right, is not right to some people, what you thing is wrong is not wrong to some people. I'm not talking about "what if" scenarios. Such as "what if raping that girl would later save her life?" because that is irrlevent at this time.

The Jedi code:
There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force.
I've looked over this code and came to a startling conclussion.
The Jedi are Vulcan wannabe's
Pointy eared, devil like, pig ignorant, green blooded and arrogant.

Now I am going to bed. Had fun. night all. For real this time.
one difference between a dark jedi and a sith is a sith actually tries to rationalize what they're doing and a dark jedi just knows they're wrong
this affects their playstyle as a dark jedi has fear as they are expecting to be judged
Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions.
