The Witcher MMO

I don't know about you folks, but I personally think it would be amazing to play a MMO based off of The Witcher Action RPG released , I think 2 years ago, by CDProjekt out of Poland. Anyways just curious if anyone else shared my thoughts.

I'm a huge fan of the books, was a fan of the crpg.  I keep trying to find a copy of the polish pnp game of it but no luck.

regarding the mmo tho, I don't think it would be all that good  because all you'd have would be 8000 Witcher's running around and a few Mages.  The back story's light on anything else that can compare to the survivability of a Witcher/Mage unfortunately (makes for great literature, a decent single player game, but who'd play joe schmoe the wandering minstrel or John Doe the loyal knight when a Witcher gets great melee skills, mutant abilities, signs, the amulet, alchemical potion creation, etc).

good books or single player games don't automatically = good mmo idea unfortunately, and if a mmo was made of the Witcher setting, I'd hate to see what classes the dev's would cook up to balance gameplay and ruin the setting.

[only successful and true to the setting way I can see  would be a very magic light world with general rogue, warrior, knight, scholar, healer, alchemist etc classes and add Witcher an an unlockable ala Jedi in pre-fiasco SWG, but then you'd need to reroll as a Witcher since they train from early childhood, Jimmy the Carpenter can't suddenly become one if it's even remotely true to the setting]

Grouping in Old school mmo's: meeting someone at the bar and chatting, getting to know them before jumping into bed.  Current mmo's grouping: tinder.  swipe, hookup, hope you don't get herpes, never see them again.

Blackthorne great post! Personally I think if placed in the right hands you could have a solid MMO, but at the same time I agree that not every single single player rpg can and does transcend well into a MMO, with that being said I don't think it would be too difficult for them to create the classes you mentioned while potentially weakening some aspects of the witcher class, but then who would want them to strip them down of their powers, although come to think of it, Geralt or any of the witchers never seemed to be invincible and could be killed, for example, a knight or mage killing a witcher doesn't seem impossible!

Haha, anyways great stuff and I appreciate everyone's thoughts!

Yes,girl players could have a playing card item which we have to get, sure the girls would love that. Gotta get erm all! :D

Joking aside I did like the setting, lore, lot going for it. But hard to have Witchers as player charecters, unless we where all witchers.

How many books are there, as I read the book that was in the library...it appears to be the first book in the series(?); I didn't even know the videogame was based on the book until I came across the book but I still have not played the game or watched the subtitled miniseries.

as of now, the only English  translated ones are Last Wish (short stories) and Blood of Elves (the first in the actual story of Geralt).  I can't remember off the top of my head how many untranslated there are, my Polish is sketchy and it took me forever to muddle thru them but it was worth the effort.

Yeah, it was "Last Wish" that I read, it wasn't so much short stories...more like an intertwined story. Will have to try and find "Blood of Elves".
