What exactly is the whole User Level system based on on MMORPG? It certainly isn't post count, because I have 14 posts yet I'm an advanced member, yet I see Novice members with 500 posts. So what exactly am I doing right and others are doing horribly wrong?

rank is about as important as the ratings they give games on here.
Wow...this is quite possibly the best designed forum ranking system EVER. One based on merit rather than spamming...I wish more sites used this xD.
Yes, indeed. If I understand correctly they actually reward star count by how well you write your posts and things like this. Instead of the usual "I want to post all the time on this forum so I can get the highest rank" system most forums usually have. I guess you could say that its sort of like a small mini game inside the forum where you try to get the highest rank by replying to as much threads as you can :P
Would you believe that in all the years I've been coming to this site I never bothered to check into this before? I knew my ranking went up and down but I've never cared much about that sort of thing.
Same, I found it somewhat odd that I was blasting through the ranks at under 40 posts. The system makes some form of sense but it needs to be more transparent.
What size is the army of gnomes that reads and ranks every post? And the mythical moderators? Never saw one myself.
System seems to work fairly well though.
