When I read about Darkfall a few year ago I knew it was not going to be a easy game and I knew it would be brutal but it's worse than I expected for lack of respect ten minutes into the game I was out killing Goblins and some ass hole comes flying along on his mount and beats me to death with 2 fire balls then I realised it was going to be much worse than I expected.
I spent the rest of the day finishing off the nooby quests and getting all the equipment for gathering professions and joined a guild. The next day I travelled to human lands swam to be precise for all the stats and skill levels it was a horrible journey but well worth it.
Few hours later I arrived at the major town im not sure on the name but it had a amazing goblin spawn me and my brother and cousin where happily grinding on them but as per usual there is allways some who ruin it by ninja looting etc and eventually a big pack of orks came by and destroyed us.
Later that night my cousin was under attack by a blue when my cousin retalliated that blue had two friends help him gang bang my cousin without loss of alignment which was very annoying after a few hours of running around killing people we where red named and packed our bags n set off for our guild city where we are now farming massive amounts of wood and iron to sell so we can atleast buy decent gear and train in peace.
As you can see my first impressions have gone bad id usually quit a game if it was like this but Darkfall i know is amazing im just at the wrong side of the game I never got into beta as per usual and only just got the game a few days ago so im completely lost and dont know a thing.
Right now as for the graphics I notice alot of people say they are bad that is untrue on my system ive got a NVIDIA GEFORCE 8500 GT 256mb card and the graphics where laggy at first but after i turned shadows and mouse smoothing off runs pretty fine they dont have anti aliasing yet so some lines do look jagged but that will be fixed in the future. However my brother has a NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800 eugh something i dont remember but its a amazing card and his graphics look perfect better than any MMO i have seen other than Conan.
I think there is seriously a lack of user friendlyness to the game it is very complex to setup and learn the intro you get is very basic and their website lacks any guides and very little information most of the information you get is from players on the forum.
However the time i havent been destroyed by players who probly played since beta i have really enjoyed so if i had to rate darkfall id give it a 8/10 for gameplay 2/10 for user friendlyness 10/10 for audio and a 9/10 for graphics with the right card anyway.
The game is great dont be put off by bad reviews as i said the game is brutal you are alone in a huge world full of people who want to do nothing but kill you work on it and turn it the other way around.
It is true when they say its not for everyone its very stressing at times.

Yeah right, even the fanbois say the audio sucks, so i guess you don't understand the grading system and 9/10 for graphic hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha
omg . please
yeah 10/10 for audio does seem a bit bizare, but glad your enjoying it!
My blog:
By audio i dont mean the actual sound effects they sound lame the fact is its 3d and i can hear people as if its real it works perfect.
The spell and slashing sounds horrible but as i said as long as it works as intended i dont give a crap.
Game audio is a 10/10? You don't take into account the game music, sound effects, lack of voice overs, horrible spell sounds and only gave it a high grade based on it being 3d audio? I don't get it.
Graphics are 9/10? Seriously? The environment graphics are great, that's about it. Character animation went out the window, spell graphics are the worse of any game, graphic/audio syncing issues still are a major immersion factor. Art direction was taken straight out of the blueprint, meaning building structures are bland and square, very little originality other then the name of the player races. I don't get it.
I get it, you ignored everything wrong and based your score on what you liked and worked. That's so wrong on so many levels. Then people wonder why people try the game and come back online writing such nasty reviews/previews/first impressions after being duped by topics such as this.
I do appreciate the lack of cartooniness of the graphics, and I'd say that graphics feedback is certainly very system related and how much you can turn on.
I'd agree that graphics in this game are very fine, and if they weren't, compared to every other big corporate mmo or indy mmo, there would be far fewer mmo players.
As opposed to other reviews that are either more positive or harsh? Hmmm.

But...
The 3d audio doesn't work.
There are no left or right audio chanells to even allow 3d audio to work.
I've played in 5.1, stereo, and headset and all sound comes from the same direction.
Either in front or behind you. There is no sound indication for left or right.
If you're going to rate an aspect of the game you don't only rate the parts you like, you have to take into consideration all portions of the aspect you rate.
The sound effects themself are very bad.
The hit indicator sounds nothing like you would expected to. It sounds like slapping a dead fish against an empty bucket.
Foot steps don't always match the terrain. Running through what is supposed to a swamp sounds like running down the street with a wet rag wrapped around your feet.
Spell effect sounds are very generic and repeated across many dif. spells. There is no audio indication of what spell someone is casting, and the impact sound is pretty universal regardless of the spell cast.
The only sound in game that is even ok is the musik, and the help shout.
BTW, the help shout is the same for every race and only comes from in front or behind you.
yeah damn him on rating on gameplay instead of graphics fluff.
audio is good. some sounds are crappy but the reality aspect of the sounds are really good, a lot like Thief.
btw, i play with a pair of good quality headphones and 3d audio works for me... directional sounds work only when the sound is relatively close, ie: it's realistic -- they MADE it to be like this, which i really appreciate.
i'm so tired of games dumbing reality down -- eg: EVE, the "premier sandbox", where space has sounds, velocity and accelaration physics are completely unrealistic, can warp/fly right through planets, stations, etc...
i give this review a 3/10.

i'm so tired of games dumbing reality down -- eg: EVE, the "premier sandbox", where space has sounds, velocity and accelaration physics are completely unrealistic, can warp/fly right through planets, stations, etc... << sort of like my fishing pole going thru and sticking out the bank? my sword going thru buildings, rocks, trees, anything it touches as i'm running? plants/grass growing thru solid boulders as if they aren't there? trees, buildings, etc floating off the ground... heavy armor is no more encumbering than naked, and doesn't affect run/sprint/swim speed... swimming in full plate... not only swimming but swimming AS FAST as someone naked... yeah, i hate those games that keep dumbing reality down. seriously, have you actually played darkfall?
did you really just open up the 'realistic' door?
i mean, i know i go to my safety deposit box in New Orleans and put a bunch of "stuff" into it. Then, when I'm in Dallas, or heck, somewhere in Mexico - i just go to a safety box at one of those banks and i can pull out the "stuff" that i'd put into the box in Nawlins.
VERY realistic there - good job on that bank thing tacos@!
and all the time, when i'm walking around outside, i put my hand thru walls and trees and cars... i'm ALL the time seeing grass grow THRU cars on parking lots everywhere. and floating trees/buildings? man, i can't take three steps outside without seeing a bush floating at least a foot off the ground. and i'm always sneaking into work and restaurants by crawling under the walls that are kinda floating about 3 feet off the ground. i mean, me and all the wild animals out here.
great realism implemented copying all that into darkfall - GO TACOS GO!!!
i especially enjoy the realism that there's no way i can actually move back off a corpse i'm looting, without changing "modes"; cuz realistically, i couldn't just take a step back, without having to put clothing and such back on a corpse i was looting irl.. .i mean, that whole interface/action view switching is spot on with the realism, bub! every time i've gone looting corpses on Bourbon Street, i've had to put the body back just how i found it, as the cops were beating me with their night sticks, or just shooting at me from down the road... i'd never be able to just MOVE and get out the way or anything.
nothing but realism in this game, lemme tell ya. (got tired of typing, there's tons more realism in darkfall though).

You are so full of BS.
The 3d audio does not work.
Darkfall is not producing any sterio sound.
It doesn't matter how "good" your headset is, there is no right or left audio output. The only indicator you get is that the sound is eithe near or far, in front or behid you. There is no left or right indication.
I ran around an area just the other day trying to figure out were the guy that was farming was farming at, it took me 10 min to find him bacause I couldn't pin the sound down because the only cues I got were the guy was in front of me some place or behind me some place. It was an annoying trial and error search in wich I crouch walked one direction to see if I was closer or farther and then back again when the sounds of fighting stopped. I was doing this WITH a head set on.
Nevermind the fact that I'm connected to a high end Technics reciever and running 5.1 digital dolby with set of 1k dollar KLH liquid cooled speakers.
EQ2 uses 3d sound.
There is a world of dif. between sound in these two games. EQ2's actually works.
- GO TACOS GO!!!
...this more open environment and player-driven ecosystem with controlls that encourage me or force me, mind you, to actually have to play the game and be attentive to everything a player can influence is so darn...umm...unexpected in a game-play world alive with players that, well...influence it?
GO TACOS GO....lol

yup, i just love how players can design cities and place the buildings/walls in an intelligent fashion, instead of them being preset and completely retardly positioned (in a number of cities)... and that freedom to put my own crib down pretty much on any of the hundreds (hundreds - plural, per tacos) of inhabitable islands -- love all that freedom.
that new global trade channel is nice i suppose. i mean, it's no global auction house (to match the global bank), and it's not a local marketplace where people visiting the city/hamlet could purchase items which others have left to sell. but damn, that trade channel kicks tons of ass!
crazy how this game forces me to play, when all the other games i've played i just do a few weeks of macroing, and every night i set myself to swimming to the edge of the map so i can stat gain all night from it. oh wait... that's darkfall that's a non stop macro and grind fest... my bad on that... by forcing to play, i thought you meant doing fun stuff AND being competitive in pvp, not having to macro and grind to be competitive in pvp.. sorry about that. you were talking like it was a positive, so yeah, sorry, didn't realize you meant it as a negative.

10/10 for sound?
ROFL
The main reason IMO that Tasos is so pissed at these reviews (2/10 & 4/10) is it lowers the potential future player base.
Out of 100 new players that sub how many quit the first week ? how many leave after there month is up ? Of those 100 people how many resub after the end of the month. It's a nitch game so retention is very low for this game ( aka not for carebears, WOWers, or insert flame name here).
My guess is not many, So AV needs a high base of people that want to try the game. Bad reviews mean less intrest and the game dieing.
If DF is going to have staying power then AV is going to have to make some major changes to the game. I'm just not sure if they have the man power or skill to be able to pull that off.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
if tasos had been... friendlier... if tasos had been..honest.. if he wouldn't come off as an arrogant prick every time he opens his cake-hole.
optimism is one thing; but this man has made a habit of outright lying... then he has the AUDACITY to accuse someone else of lying?
if this game was developed by someone, not necessarily charismatic; but at least that doesn't consistently come across as a total douche ... people in general would be willing to cut slack. not tons of slack, but moreso than what's given presently.
doing away with the majority of features which actually DID set this game apart -- double u tee eff?????????? that is WHY there was so much hype about this game. but doing away with them, leaving them on the website as a reminder to people of the BS he's pulled, and to just not be forthcoming to paying customers, and to lie to the same folks...
it's insanity. in a bad way.

I think author of this post is attempting to point out the positives the game has taken since the secured launch….Hey, from 2/10 to 4/10 rating should not be ignored!
Sorry, couldn’t resist.
Graphics is not that bad actually. It's the animations that kill the P to P interaction. Combat is also a bit to gimpy. For sound I don't really care. I keep music down on all games, except in AoC.

That alone explains everything I need to know. The sound in Darkfail is piss poor. Just one more illustration of the incompetency of Tasos Flambouras. Did this jerk really think the community at large would accept such pisspoor craftmenship?
