building a computer- need help

Hey guys I;m building a computer on ibuypower and it ends up being like 500$+ less for an amd based computer than a intel... I don't quite understand why because to me it seens like the i7s are alot like the phenomenons. I know often you get what you pay for and I'm willing to pay more for a better computer, but if there isn't much difference other than intel is more popuuular then it's not worth spending so much. 

Just so You know what i'll be doing on the computer if it makes a difference: CAD, some 3d art, online games, and music and movie downloads.

If you recomend amd also suggest ati cards, i don't know much about them

For CAD you want an ATI card.  A nVidia card just won't cut it.  As far as Phenom II verse Core i7.  The Core i7 is a better processor.  Is it worth $500 more?  Not compared to the Phenom II.  However, you have to look and make sure its a Phenom II and not a Phenom I.  Phenom IIs number system consists of 3 numbers, like 955.  While Phenom I consists of 4, like 8400.

AMD & ATI will do you just fine.  The intel chip is better but not for the price unless price is no option for you.
