My CoH Review

Ok well ill tell you one thing, this game is a GREAT game, for about 30 days. The game has some of the best customization(Physical) as well as a great battle system. The game also has your basic Group and Supergroup systems. Ok well those are the positive things. After about a month when you hit 15, you realise that you are fighting enemies that have the same name as the enemies that you fought at level 1 which isnt too bad but is a bit agitating how the same type of human or creature could die from a level one player yet kill a level 15 player. The next thing is the lack of skills. There is really not enough skills to differentiate your player from any other player. You will usually always see people running around casting the same exact powers as you are using. The grind is also a bit tedious, knowing that you only get one power every other level and not all of the powers are exactly "exciting". The last few negative things i will mention are that there is No Equipment just "Stat Boosters", the quests also contain usually only one type of enemy, and the world is a bit small. This is all i can really say about the game. I would not recomend playing this game unless you plan on playing an MMORPG for less than 3 months.

I was thinking about getting this game because that was exactly my plan, just to play it for 2 to 3 months because I only need to play it until WoW releases.

I played in the open beta and I agree with you on almost every point you mentioned. Almost every point because I do think lots of powers are exciting :P and I also think that the world (city) is quite big, and its still expanding too with every update.

psst...there are stat boosters. There are accolades out there that do affect your ability. Course you won't get em in the 30 days that you tried.

You only made it to level 15, pretty low level IMO. Around level 20, you start to fight other groups, harder groups.

I'd say there are more skill options that would seperate you then there are in WoW

A 20th level fire/ice blaster vs a 20th level ice/fire blaster do have distinct looking attack powers in CoH compaired to a 20th level undead fighter vs a 20th level human fighter in WoW

If the grind gets to you, try badge and plaque hunting

your arguement is so persuasive, so filled with knowledge and insight. You back up your argument very articulately, with suggestions of improvements and raising examples to glorify your position....oh wait, you didn't

If your just looking for a MMO to play this game probably isn't for you, as it lack the traditional out of combat activities.  You might want to wait for WOW or EQ2.  If you like comic books and love the thought of playing a super hero you will probably love this game.  I've been playing the game since preorder beta and I still love it but this is because I have been a comic book junky since I was a kid.

Yes, i cannot play an mmorpg thinking that i will stop in 3 months though. Because anything you earn or do will just go away in 3 months. The sad part is that i havent found an mmorpg to last me over 3 months since EQ imageimageimage

If EQ is the only MMO that could keep you interested for more than 3 monts then wait for EQ2.  If you need something to tide you over till it hits the market try some single player games or those with multy player options like Dungeon Siege and Diablo.

So only played to 15 eh?  And then you rerolled several other toons and played to lv 10 eh?  And you say you'r bored with fighting the same enemies?  Well, brutha I can understand that!  For over 50 levels of game play you've been fighting Hellions, Skulls, Outcasts, CoT, Trolls, Lost and Clockwork.

You've stopped playing just when the leveling becomes more difficult, and that i understandable.  For the first 12 levels character progression is huge and fast.  After that it slows, becomes more difficult, and you have to go to more zones to complete missions and explore for the best XP places.

But by stopping there you're just now missing where the game gets REALLY good.

Even at level 15 you JUST get the Tsoo missions.  Those guys are a BUNCH tougher than any of the others and much more fun and challenging.  Did you do the Positron Task Force yet?  That will test your mettle (and patience and teaming ability).  You haven't even gotten to the BEST TF in the game - the next one, Synapse, for lv 15-21s.  You've not even touched the Freakshow or the Family both of which are very fun with good storylines.  Devouring Earth and Banished Pantheon beyond that.  Crey and Rikti.  Nemesis and the High 5th column.

I agree that a game should not only be good starting, but should hold that throughout.  Yes there are quirks in CoH with every contact giving you a Kill mission first before the true door missions.  But then there are the badge rewards for certain missions, and the completeion of entire story arcs.  Did you get the bandana, etched clockwork piece, or skull souveniers?  If you're lv 15 and haven't then you missed some content.

Anyways.  Try the lv 15+ game.  Team in Boomtown and try to stay alive while leveling quickly.  Get to Independence Port and Talos Island for the lv 20 play.  Find a higher level friend and get Sidekicked to some of the cooler missions.  You MUST do the Synapse TF so you can fight the clockwork King and Babbage as well as follow a great story.

If that doesn't do it for you then ya, dump it.  But, I just wanted to let you know, Roland, "There are other worlds than these."

and I hope that helps you too Tidde.  If not I'll post again with more stuff.  Whatever you wanna know.

    Well said, Shaya.

There are many things to see and do in the 15+ range, and it gets even more interesting in the 25+ range. With respec trials, Task Forces, etc. I don't see how you can complain of a lack of variety in mob types out there.

And go beat the Kraken, Babbage, Dr. Vahzilok and the Clockwork King! Oh, and wait till you try to easily solo a Paragon Protector, and they use that annoying Moment of Glory.. LOL So much to do. :)

Looking for a game you can stick with? Try Jumpgate, I've been playing for over 2 years, and many players have been playing since Beta, around 4 years ago. Small player base, but a really tight communinty. the only real problem is its all skill based and it takes about 3 to 6 months before you can really handle the more powerful aliens or survive dogfights with other players.
