Looking for a new MMO

I have played a couple of MMO's and I am in the market to try something new.

To this effect, can someone gimme an honest rundown of this game? I dont wann just jump in and waste my money if it turns out to be a sub standard game. Also, I have not played WoW before. I play AoC and LOTRO. How does it stack up to those games and is the PVP any good?

Thanks in advance.

this game when it launched was pure shit just like aoc was

but it has evolved into the game it should have launched as, the population suffered because of it but it's slowly getting better and at peak times the pve servers can reach 1500+ people (speculation and word of mouth so don't quote me on that)

this is a good game if you enjoy pve and a world full of exploration and grandeur.

lots to do in this game so give the trial a try and see if you like it

There are just too many dimensions to cover in a post.  If you like PvP, then Vanguard is probably not for you.  It's very much a PvE orientated game and in my opinion is the best PvE MMO available if you like a challenging, large, non-instanced world to explore.  It's a much different game than AoC and LotRO.  I didn't like those games, but I would say LotRO is a very well done MMO.

Isle of Dawn is a free demo.  If you want to try it, you wouldn't be out anything except the download times :)  Isle of Dawn will introduce you to adventuring, diplomacy, crafting and harvesting and generally gives you a good idea of what Vanguard is like.  One caveat, performance on the Isle of Dawn can be somewhat shaky at times because of the number of people there.  But if you get good performance there, you'll get good performance anywhere in Telon.

I was able to play isle of dawn maxed at 1680x1050 with 6xaa/af with 50+ fps on an 8800 gts I think the performance has improved greatly

My overall performance has improved a lot too.  I play 2560x1600 in maxed settings and get 50+ fps as well.  But when on the Isle of Dawn it drops to 40+ because of all the people.

That is a 14-day free trial.  You probably won't be able to do all the quests on the island in that time, but I'd recommend trying a little bit of everything.  Adventuring is fun, crafting is in depth, diplomacy is novel and harvesting is harvesting :)  A fun goal for veterans is to be level 50 in all of those spheres.

I also downloaded the free trial several days back. It only took me a couple days to be sold on it. Another plus right now is the game itself is free. You just need to pay the monthly sub costs which is nice.
