NVIDIA Corporation today announced that Futuremark Games Studio has selected NVIDIA PhysX technology for its upcoming first-person shooter game, Shattered Horizon, which was officially unveiled last week
"Shattered Horizon has a real space setting that offers gameplay, tactics, and freedom of movement that cannot be found in any other shooter," said Jukka M?kinen, Head of Futuremark Games Studio. "PhysX is essential in helping our game designers create a realistic and fun zero-gravity combat experience."
Shattered Horizon is a multiplayer first-person shooter where players fight in zero gravity surrounded by rocky debris from a huge explosion on the Moon. With simple and intuitive controls players have complete freedom of movement to create gameplay and tactics impossible in games constrained by gravity. The game's stunning lighting effects and zero gravity physics give the look and feel of real space, bringing to life an extraordinary and epic vision of the future.
NVIDIA PhysX technology is the world's most pervasive development platform for physics acceleration in interactive entertainment. Consisting of a robust physics engine, API, and middleware software, NVIDIA PhysX technology provides developers the ability to add additional levels of realism into their games across all major gaming platforms, including Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC. On the PC, PhysX technology harnesses the power of any CUDA-enabled general-purpose parallel computing processor, including any NVIDIA GeForce 8 Series or higher GPU, to handle 10-20 times more visual complexity than what's possible on today's traditional PC platforms. All of the 80 million plus GeForce 8 Series and higher GPUs in the field are CUDA-enabled, the largest installed base of general-purpose, parallel-computing processors ever created.
NVIDIA PhysX technology is already included in more than 140 shipping titles for Sony Playstation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and the PC. For more information on NVIDIA PhysX technology, please visit: www.nzone.com/physx.

Buzz wrong. Most games that are Games for windows have to comply with Windows standards, this includes Physics. The physic "Engine" can be read by any card that supports physic allocation technology, the PhysX has nothing to do with nvidia hardware technology, it is a "game code engine" sdk which is to implented by developers to use in games. Nvidia "sells" the licensing to game companies, no game company in there right mind would alienate themselves from the entire pc market, sooy kid, just never happens, specially when this market is on 10 % of the entire gaming market.
Seriously , the way you look at these deals is like a 5th grader saying his mags wheel pwn spoked wheels, not know that spoked wheels are the superior ... get a clue , please, before trying to inform people who have been pc gaming for well over 2 decades.
Ok...Im going to show you somthing....The links below....Read them then scroll down to see the pretty lil pictures.

Now can you tell me why the ATI cards are getting the crap kicked out of them? Nvidia Physx is why! ATI cards dont support Nvidia Physx!

No what is realy bad is.....All the gaming websites that test the cards dont turn on Physx.(whitch you paid for). They say it's not fair to ATI because ATI dosent have a answer for it, And this is true, because it makes them look worse than they realy are! Ill let you come up with the ideas of why ATI cards are slow, run hot and dont stack up to the Nvidia cards. Also these sites stay away form testing games that are supported with Nvidia Physx and if they do, they turn it off.
This is why.... In those links the Nvidia cards are taking the load off of the slower CPU and putting the load on the MUCH faster GPU. That is why the scores are higher.ATI cant use Nvidia Physx for their cards...So it's not fair. However the end user of Nvidia cards can turn this on and YES you can tell the diffrence in frame rates!

The xbox 360 is using ATI technolgy so how it is processing the physic content ?
Lets not try to compair a PC to Xbox 360 please, you simply can't do it!It Take baby steps.
However...It has to be written in the game, and the so called CPU on a 360 has to process the Physic's. This is very slow, but then again......Your trying to talk about consoles?
So lets try to stay with the Havoc thing....Thats all ya got....The nice thing with the Havoc engine is that reguardless ATI or Nvidia All the Physic's processing is done thru the CPU. So it really makes no diffrence who you chose. It's a win win for Nvidia.
Graphics with the CPU= slow
Graphics with the GPU= FAST

I wonder if it will be like directX
Yea....You keep telling yourself that..
LOL
hii yaa reallly its an awesome ....
nvidia is great hardware for games .. i just love ..............many games just work only in nvidia hardware .....
i hav upgraded my video hardware.. last month ...... its really great ...
will you please guys give me more information about new video hardwares ???

PhysX is nothing other than Nvidia's proprietary middleware for in-game physics. Nothng more! It's not a standard or even a leading design, as most software houses will indeed being going CPU based physics in the future. To reach maximum saturation of their product.
As recent engines have hinted.
There are more exciting things for CUDA than physX, such as the added benifit while Folding@home, etc. Most people will not buy additional hardware, just to experience additional fluff within their video games.
Don't over estimate it's use.
