I bought Darkfall a while ago, and I can see how it gets kindof boring after a while, has a huge grind, it's unfinished, etc. I heard about MO and decided to research it abit, and found that it is alsmost identical to Darkfall, but 10x better.
It's 1st person, which is the obvious first similarity, it has clan/guild towns and keeps (hamlets and cities for DF), the mounts are killable, stealable, etc. which is the same as DF but they can also be trained and have stats and such in MO.
It just seems to me that MO is the final version of Darkfall, and Darkfall is just a beta... This makes me more interested in MO, however, beacause Darkfall does/did have the potential to be a really great game, they just didn't have enough money to pull it off. MO seems to be doing much better, and I think it will be a big MMO that alot of people will play once it is released - not as big as WoW ofc - but still pretty big.
What do you guys think?

it is not out yet, noone can say if it is better then df.
before its release df was the best game ever.... for many players.
you have to wait for the release and learn from the df hype to have patience.
Well i cant say that MO will do better than DF or that it will be a better game cause noone knows how it plays . The only thing i know is that it certainly doesnt have the insane hype DF had. i mean if there wasnt mmopg.com there's no way i would have known about this game . Well MO is way far from getting released and who knows, maybe by that time DF will be a different game. The fanboyz hope, the trolls are sharpening the blades........

Not exactly way far. Its release date is summer of this year. So according to that, we've only a couple of months to determine if MO will be the tombstone that forces DF to Rest.....In......Peace......*gong*.
Do you really think they can beta test it and release it this summer? I am sure that even them dont belive that. Maybe this fall
Cluck Cluck i'm a chick!!!!
Im hoping it will be a better darkfall from the videos it certainnly seems A LOT better in many areas im hoping it will suceed in the areas darkfall failed
i thought age of conan was ment to be new and exciting...
MO is a new copy of UO with modern graphics, or at least that is what they aiming for.
DF is more of a MMOFPS.
As for better, that is a matter of opinion but MO hav the advantage of using a tried GFX engine while DF made a new one, that hopefully maks MO less buggy.
MO is also aiming for more PvE content than DF.
DF is still new, and I'm not sure you can even called it released yet since they only opened up one server in EU. We will see however it failed or not in a year or so.
Hopefully will MOs release be better but that is hard to tell, a good release makes it easier for a game to make it, but some game have survived bad launches, like Eve and AO.
The impression I have so far is that while DF focusses on large scale pvp and sieging, MO is much more about roleplaying and a rich experience for individual players in it's sandbox world.
Apart from that it looks like MO has the better art direction, animations, sounds and graphics in general.

everything is better then darkfail

*shrugs* I can't remember where I saw its labeled release date, but I do believe it said summer of 09. I don't really think anything about it to be frank lol. Summer or not, it comes out when it comes out as far I'm concerned. I'm just stating what I saw, or believe I saw anyway. Either way, my hopes are a better launch than DF. In the very least.
Edit: Well according to this site, it's Q3. so that's July-September. So end of summer start of fall. It can go either way.
No large scale pvp or sieging...that kinda sucks

Nah, I don't say that it won't be in, I'm saying that the DF has that as one of it's primary points of focus.

MO is less PvP heavy than DF, otherwise it's pretty much the same animal.
The fact MO is planning on AoC style "limited beta" concerns me.
MO development and DF development had a budget of same size so it all comes down to who spent their money best.
Its all about Tasos VS Talos.

For my part it's ok if they are late, rather launch a year late then release another game too early, we seen a lot of that lately and it always costs a lot of subs for the game.
The power point presentation they released a couple of weeks ago said that the main focus of the game was PvP.
You'll be able to build your own house and then develop, with others, into a fort from there.
However,
Yes, the game is like DFO.
Hopefully better.
Yeah there were alot of players spreading rumors here about how great it was going to be before they even saw a screenshot of it.......MO seems to be flying under the radar and has nowhere near the hype that Darkfall had (at least at this site).......From what I have seen so far, MO seems to be much more professionally done and handled alot better than Aventurine handled their game......Alot of the turnoffs for me abotu Darkfall were simply how poorly Aventurine goes about handling things in the MMO business......
I'm with you locke, I'm hoping they take the time and consideration to launch this right. Too many games have launched and flopped, due to whatever reason the developers had in their heads that made them think their game was ready. I don't know crap about making a mmo or why the devs. do what they do, but so far it seems that MO is on the right track. To me the game looks more visually appealing. It looks like what I'd hope Oblivion would be like if it were an MMO. I'm personally all for the immersive FPV, and the other features I've read about. I just hope they get implemented, cuz I'm so very much tired of empty promises. Their website is at least updated, unlike someone else I know.<.< So if it's not going all that great for MO, they're doing a wonderful job in at least making us think otherwise lol. If MO does what Aion is doing, and releasing a complete game, they'll dominate DF easily. Perhaps even without it being fully completed...
Talos isn't a developer. He's just a moderator.
About your oblivion part, Fallen earth is made by bethesta, the devs of elder scroll so if they make an oblivion mmorpg, it will be almost like fallen earth.

Since DF set the bar pretty low, odds are MO will be better, sort of hard to do much worse unless of course, it never releases.
The ideas are very similar, and the audience will be much the same, more of a hardcore niche crowd rather than a mainstream game. (which is probably for the best)

If it realease that soon, even with target testing, it will be easily explotable just like DFO was.

Actually, the audience for MO is suprisingly very differnt. Many of the MO players are more PnP/DnD fans and are looking for a true RPG with realisitc PvP. However, many also support indistruible housing that can be built anywhere, stat loss for PKers, and safe zones. In other words PvP lite, out side of racial conflicts.

Many, but not all. But plenty wants to have at last a game forcing players to think, instead of acting like a dolls.
I'm full hands for destructible houses. It's a player's fault if he builds his house in the middle of a road, leading to the strongest guild's city. And then an enemy guild might crush his tent with war machines, because there were no other way to pass through.
Stat loss won't be that painful, as regaining skills will be pretty fast. I hope only that PKing will train skillz a little bit faster than doing it in PvE
But safe zones ? Never seen any whine about no safe zones at all.

I think it just comes down to the competancy of the developers on if it's able to be exploited when it comes out. I keep getting the feeling that people are assuming that I'm the one saying it's comming out in the summer or something. I'm just going by all the target release dates I'm seeing. Even on here. Q3 of 09. That's end of summer, start of fall. Either July August or September. It's not that far off. Just a couple of months away.
