I have used AVG Free Edition for years and have never had a problem. I download plenty of crazy schtuff from sites/people you should never trust, so the fact that I've never been infected is pretty impressive.

I agree with this as well, I have run AVG for years on a couple of my systems and also have a lot of friends who run it as well.

Trendmicros housecall that the above guy linked to is the best I tried, takes a long time but found lot more viruses than the other I tried.
