FUNCOM EVENT: Spectacular 1 year event in AoC - And the disaster goes on....

One year of Conan and Funcom was gonna hold a party !!

http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=193795

But guess what... Nothing has change.  The event turned out to be a total disaster and was chancelled on the US servers cause of bugs and performance issues.

http://forums-eu.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=121967&page=5

Now... What exactly has changed since this game launched year ago ?  Other than the Forum ppl becoming better at their PR to save their face - deleting posts, banning ppl and locking topics.... Nothing.  Nothing has changed.   Its still the same incompetent group of ppl that are happy just as long they can fool some ppl into buying and subbing for the game 1 more month...  As a game... AOC is a disaster - and will always be considered to be a warning to both gamers and developers how NOT to do things when it comes to MMORPGs.

nah its not that the game is bad: the ideas, basic system and such a great....its just that the people making it are incompetent...

Wow... that is pretty pathetic.  Especially Tarib's explanation of the whole thing forums-eu.ageofconan.com/showthread.php  Yes, Funcom seems to have screwed the pooch (so-to-speak) yet again.  However, your statement of AoC is blatantly false and shows the transparency of your hatred against this game.

So, in the end, I agree the Funcom team failed, yet again.  But, I disagree with your hate post about AoC.

only read a few pages of the thread on the Europeaevent and  looks like the instanced design bit them on the ass. That and some bad communication

    Wow... this is quite comical...

    but heck, they still have the announcement on their website which states every pre-order would be in the early access (we all remember how that went);

Funcom and Eidos announce that Age of Conan pre-order programs are now fully available in all major territories, including USA, Germany, France, Spain, UK, Oceania and the Nordic countries. Conan fans and MMO gamers are already raving about the incredible pre-order items, including the War Mammoth and Killer Rhino, and today Funcom ups the ante and confirms that everyone who pre-orders may access Hyboria several days prior to the retail launch.

    The more things change...

The massive Irony of this is beyond hilarious.

I cannot think of a more appropriate way to mark the first year than to re-create what in essence was AoC's launch.

    1) Make a lot of hype.

    2) People show up in droves

    3) FunCom does not deliver.

    4) Official response "YOU misunderstood"

    5) Mods begin censoring the 'WTF!?!?!" posts on the forums in hopes the world will never know.

They could not have made a better recreation of the birth of this game. Gratz to them!!

Funcom's spin machine probably needs a new motor about now.

Great fun to watch the mods removing the posts of people saying this was the last straw and they are canceling over the fiasco. This whole thing makes me almost nostalgic about all the very similar debacles in Anarchy Online, FunCom will never ever learn.

And just like AO, they figure deleting a few posts and threads will make the problem go away. If it ain't on the forums it never happened right? They never learned a thing from the   AO launch did they?.

    Hehe, i don't believe it.
People, even the FC-lovers, are finally waking up to the fact that this game always was a big joke. I can not believe people actually pay this company still.
    Nice anniversary! Lol

It doesn't sound like the event was not supposed to be much in the first place, but nothing occured at all?   You'd think they could get a few GMs to run some NPCs or something.

It seemed that with the booting of Gaute things would turn around for the game.   I saw lots of angry posts on those forums but also players wanting to see their game improved.    FC should take this as a lesson and be more careful with their announcements.

"when will they ever learn? when will they ever learn?"  lalalala.

Finally, when they shut up the "bankrupcy crowd" they manage to make a basic mistake such as this.

Well, the diehard fans have been through worse. (dont know if that counts for much though). Like we say in norway: "In a hundred years it will all be forgotten!"

aoc will be shut down by the end of the year that much is clear

funCON is losing players left and right and the 1.05 patch is still months away from being done

really i think shutting down aoc is one of the best things that will happen it will show that we gamers do want to be spoon fed this lame wow clone and we will get more pre-cu swg skill based games

Funny thing this was said last year too, time will show if it really happens this year, if not there will always be a possibility again next year ;)

I would love a pre cu game to come again, but I doubt it will be a huge success, DF is the closes to pre cu we have now and look at how that is doing. The problem with Sandbox MMO's it attracts a small portion of the mmo players. developers want to make money so they go for the mainstream market in hope to earn loads of money. I do hope MO can deliver as that game looks to be good. :)

Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
    On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom

And it was the same people saying the same things a year ago as now.  As for the numbers of players it seems like not much have happened one way or another the last 2 months.

AoC will hardly close down the next year, I find it far more likely that Darkfall will do it, it have very few players and a high turnover of them. AoC have at least a steady playerbase.

Anything EA makes can also go down the drain, but that is EAs fault, there is a company that loses a lot of money and are constantly cutting down on staff.

I would be surprised if DFO closes the servers to be honest, that would mean adventurine going bankrupt. DFO will keep up but never be a huge success. Look at EVE it had a though start, but if AV can do the things correct from now on, they will quite possibly be able to pull it off and get a stable and good amount of subscribers. DFO has potential, too bad Tasos kept saying before launch the gamne was feature ready etc. That is a thing that backfires on AV now :P

EA have been through worse, once upon a time they were seen as the worst publishing company ever. They are quite possibly the first large company to have to gou out officially and apologize for the way they treated their customers and how they handled their games. They had a nice lineup of games they simply destroyed by releasing crap games. Today they suffer from the financial situation around the world. WAR ain't doing as good as they hoped, and EA are by far the company that is most likely to shut down a game if it doesn't perform well enough. They are in need to cut their losses, hence the mass firing of employees etc.

Funcom did fail to meet the expectations they set out with AoC, no one can deny that.

Clear to who exactly? I really enjoyed my first month though dont plan to continue playing. However there is still a solid enough fanbase to keep it running. A blanket statment like this is stupid.
funCON is losing players left and right and the 1.05 patch is still months away from being done
Who knows how far out 1.05 is. The newsletter said a few weeks. Should we believe them? OFC not. But for someone who doesnt play the game you sure like throwing out statments you really have no clue about.

Again another retarted statment by someone who never played the game. AoC is not a wow clone. Saying it is just proves to me you never once played the game regardless of if you say you did or not.

All that said the 1yr thing was pathetic and part of the reason I dont plan on continuing to my subscription now that my free month is nearly up. Any company that is so inept that they cant pull off even a small celebration for the 1yr anni gives me no faith they can pull off such a large update as 1.05. The concept of AoC was great. Its even playable now and rather fun for a short period of time. Then you realise there is no reason to PvP, the raids are a joke, and there is absolutly nothing to do at end game but these 2 things. I really enjoyed getting a toon to 80 and another to 60 between the free trial and the month from purchasing the game but its easy to see there is no reason to keep playing.

I still enjoyed my 5 years in Anarchy Online, and I enjoyed the few months I played AoC when it first came out. My main reason for not playing was the performance on my computer. I think if the performance improved, and they got a lot of content put in, the game would be fine. Bash my opinion if you want, but remember, yours is also just an opinion. Everyone enjoys their own things, and its fine if you dont like the game, but dont bash people that do :)

To each his own. One man's trash is another man's treasure. All those cliches...
