Yes I am a huge DF fanboy but I am trying to understand what the specific differences between MO and DF.
Best I can tell from Wikipedia is, player housing, next gen graphics, multiple characters per account.
What else?
Also, can players actually build cities? or how does the city building aspect work

Surprise, surprise; an existing thread on the subject; www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/361/view/forums/thread/237034/MO-basically-just-a-better-Darkfall.html
My brand new bloggity blog.
That string mostly is a conversation over which game is "better" which is retarded given MO is not even out.
I am looking for what specific features MO has that DF does not have.
and again, can player(clans) build cities in MO?
What funny comment on that string was "DF was best before it came out" that statement in of itself is retarded. A game doesnt exist until its out. anyway, that was a side note. Really just looking for speicifc things from a featuer standpont that is different and I hope from information more stable than "has more PvE content than DF"

"specific differences ?"
Well, right off the bat MO doesn't have Tasos,,,,,that's a *huge* advantage.
thats it?
ok well fair enough..
can clans build cities?
and no I am very seriously NOT trying to start a fight I am actually intrested becuase of the graphics

"Build your own house, or set up a guild to build a keep. With enough power, violence or diplomacy, you and your allies will be able to rule an entire nation." - http://www.mortalonline.com/overview
I rule the internetz.
As a frequent poster in the MO forums you need to know that not only are a majority of hte game's functions under wraps - the idea of housing is currently only a rumor. It could be in at launch, but it might not be - and if it is, there is no telling whether it's instanced in existing NPC hubs or as a free-standing home in the wilderness.
Never have I seen a game with more make-believe feature than MO - players are basically penning the entire game in bloggy tidbits.

Try to fusion Ultima online and darkmessiah might and magic when you play multiplayer. There you go. Thats what mortal online will be. If MO dont have all the feature from Ultima online yet, its because they will add them in a later date. For exemple, they want to make the archery system so complexe and so realist, that they didnt even finish archery yet so thats why we didnt had a video about them. By UO, i mean pre EA UO.
MO will kill DF, but you dont know yet. Go read the power point from their website.
About grinding, MO is more on player skills. Players that waste their time on the computer 24-7 wont be better then a player that really know how to play, control he's character and using skills at the right time. Gears wont matter for your perfomance. The best player win. There are over 140 000 crafting combinason.
It take 2 weeks to max your skill cap, but you cannot learn everything.
MO will have a better flagging system then DF, but it wont be more or less carebear eather.
MO will just be better then DF and thats it. Dont believe me? Go read more on that game before you post again because in the MO forum, i saw many clans from DF posting in MO.

You might download the powerpoint presentation, all the information on MO is there for you to read.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.
Small specific features aside, the most obvious and big difference to DF is the combat system, and a well developed first person view.
That alone elevates this game above DF to me.
Thanks this was actually helpful.
crafting and gathering engine sounds like it might intresting but to be completly honest the key features that attracted me to DF in the first palce are actually missing from the list.
I am speaking of the RTS part of DF. Clan built cities, cannons, ships, warhulks, city rares, city "wonders" that after two months are just now being discovered.
I plan to get MO anyway becuase of the graphics involved but at this time I cant see myself leaving DF for MO other than a few weekends to check out the graphics.

MO sounds like a great and polished game but I will be staying in DF since I don't feel like leaving everything behind and its a decent game IMO anyways.
I'm playing DF and will play it up to MO release. I like DF but miss so much things in it.
At all both games are exactly the same genre, but the main difference is that MO will have much better mechanics:
1. More complex and realistic crafting
2. More complex and deep skill system (Taming will not summon mount from nowhere)
3. Will not hold your mounts in you pocket :P
4. MO will have world lore.
5. PvE will be much more involved into the world than just necessary grind, also can change the world in many ways outside of city building.
6. Better mount mechanics - it will have stats, you can equip your mount
7. No quests from quests giver! Only quests you make your own from world lore etc.
8. Much better graphics
I can say MO will be like UO+DF, with actual beautifull graphics.
Where themepark games try to hide that they are copying WOW, games like Mortal Online and Darkfall make no attempt to hide their inspiration

In DF all the concepts (even as crappy as they are) are reality.
In MO all the concepts only exist on powerpoint file that the mo-fanboys refer to as bible.
There has been one movie that showed like 5 people dishing it out in 10x10 area, there has been no movies or screenshots that would prove of any of said features being in MO.
thats the difference
Considering the rampant rumors about DF being vaporware prior to its release, you would think that a DF fan would be a little more hesitant to start screaming "I'll believe it when I see it."
Having played DF makes anyone qualified expert when it comes to vaporware, so yes...I call it like I see it.
The best I can tell in MO there will be no clan made cities, cannons, ships, warhulks, wonders or city rares.
Unfortuntally the RTS features of DF are the main reason I got intrested in the game.

DF has flying boats. MO does not
btw. what are those flying boats ? You mean it's a "feature" (read as bug) of normal ships ?
Ahhh, you are one of the external developers ?Or you mean only those "magically flying" siege machines ?
Nice.
Could you repeat one more time how long are you working for SV ? You DFo fanbois might take last powerpoint presentation as a "MO bible", but that's the most stupid thing I've heard about mmo games this year.
We base on things being shown through newsletters channel, and then shown on video footages.Latest presentation is only collection of all featuers, which should be available at the release.
Regarding differences, there's one major thing, which hasn't been mentioned: developers, and their right approach to game development.
It's faster to list similarities and similar core features than listing all differences.

Remember, your advantage lies in your opponent's weakness (J)
There is player housing, and according to the forums has been stated (and I believe in the Powerpoint also) that a player house can be upgraded into a guild keep.
There will also be buildings a clan can build that give them advantages and such, but no it wont be like Darkfall due to the fact that there are no preset spots to set buildings. Meaning your fairly free to set them wherever you want.
Naval combat will not be at launch.
Siege weapons ARE going to be (they've been using one in the freaking movies).
No floating magical siege tanks (warhulks)
Not sure about Cannons being in, might just be catapults and things of that nature.
But the big thing to remember is, this is all just stuff being promised to us by devs. Until we see the released game we wont know for sure.
People who compare a game bug to a feature declared on a PowerPoint slide are mountainously retarded.
Declared features set to declared feature set only please.

No, actually I believe there are floating boats. I don't think it's a bug, it's intended. As far as we know, MO hasn't decided to put magical floating boats in their game. I'm assuming it's going to be something more like.. a trebuchet, ballista.. or the like. AV obviously isn't going for realism.
I think the most glaring difference is the developers. AV's act like children while SV's act like professionals. That and we're all hoping ranged combat doesn't turn into a bunch of naked players shooting mana missle at each other.

Maybe I missed it. I didnt see any reference to any boats of any kind whatsoever in the powerpoint slides.
Can clans craft boats in MO?
