original swg vet pondering return ???

LakredaLakreda Member Posts: 5

hi, i played swg from launch up until when WoW came out then i stopped playing swg. quit playing WoW a long time ago, stopped playing mmo's all together. now im currently play WAR, have been since november, but i think it's really ran its course with me. actually i think it ran its course a couple months ago but i stuck around for my guild. anyways i was wondering what i could expect to log in to as far as my character is concerned if i reactivate. i read on a different forum that someone reactivated and had a cl80 char. does it depend on your advancement when you last played? if so i matered pretty much every class there was in the game (who didnt?) any insight would be appreciated! cheers!

If your character was pure combat when they had the skill trees ie: swordman tkm or bh with brawler  or something like that then you will have a level 80 character.  However if say you had an armoursmith - rifleman combo you will have a very low level character.   Pure crafters like armour/weapons something would end up being CL 10 I think although this part I can't remember I believe they had to regrind the crafters classes.  I had a master merchant/armoursmith and I seem to remember finding I had to regrind crafting but it was awhile ago now and I truly dont remember :(

sounds good, pretty sure that when i stopped playing i was rolling around as TKM/Master Smuggler with my leftover points put into pistoleer. from what i understand too my house should be in my datapad but i'll owe a butt load of maintenance and probably have none of my hundreds of millions of credits.

Lakreda, you proabably have a free vet trial waiting for you. Go ahead and check your SWG account status. You didn't mention what  server you hail from, but if you are on one of selected dead servers, you will be able to transfer to a more populated server like Starsider. A couple of the 'transfer to' servers are in trouble population wise, like Gorath, so choose carefully. Don't fret about getting credits - it is easy to make millions almost instantly in SWG. If you don't have a free vet trial, then try a free game trial to see if you even like how the game is before you spend any money on it.

The game is quite different than it was at the time you quit. As a former WoW players, you will recognize a lot of the cut & paste WoW content. You may even like the game more this way.

It didn't matter how many professions you mastered (you will have elder status with badges), it all depends what your character was when the NGE went live. If you were part crafter and part combatant, you will be a low level facing the long, mind numbing grind (aaarrrggghhh!) if you go combatant. Trader can be knocked out in a few hours and entertainer in as little as 14 hours via macro. Check the O-boards for more info.

i played on tarquinas and i wasn't even around when NGE came about. so i assume my char was still TKM/Master smuggler then. i poked around the site and didn't see anything leading to a "vet trial" but i did download the 14 days free trial and am messing around with that.

Hey, I just thought I would add my 2 positive cents to this thread. I really like the game as is now. I don't know what it will be like for your character if you return. My Real Life G/F returned after 3 years with her Jedi and she loves it now more than pre cu pre nge. so if that helps than all the better.  I tried the game back at release of Jump to Lightspeed. and I had a horrible game exp. no one would help me and I kept getting ganked by swoopers. So I went back to EvE on-line.  I have been playing SWG for a month now. and will continue to play. I enjoy everyone I have come in contact with including my g/f! I recommend the game as is. even my buddys are coming to play! so I hope that helps.

I just got back myself, and thiers alot to do, been buisy transfering my old stuff to my new houses, thiers alot of pve and pvp on the populated servers.    I have no idea how your old server is doing but their are 10 transfer to servers that are doing great.   Starsider I dont think you should go to, its already packed, I mean packed to the max,  during peak it has latency problems due to over population.      Same with Bria and Chilistra, those 3 are all very heavy, the other transfer too's I would  go and make a toon and then look around and see if you like them.

Always good to see more vets returning and enjoying the game, also great to see some very good advice in this thread.

Welcome back all of you. :)

i tried to go back when SoE gave me a free month....i think they made the game even worse with the updates......NGE aside, i just couldn't play this game.  Feels like they took all the immersion out of it and JTL is pretty bogus.  so there my char sits, millions of credits and vet rewards in the SoE server tomb.

Can I have your stuff and toon? I will put it to good use.

    Welcome back!

I hope you have good experiances in SWG.  As of this posting, Starsider, Flurry, Bloodfin, Bria are top servers in pop. Just under them would be Ahazi and Radiant.  Tarq was a totally dead server last I was on there.  I think I remember 1 Tatooine player city on the map.  As far back as its been that you last played (depending on your house maintance) you might not have a house now.  House packup started 2 years ago and before that there was a period of non distruction emposed because of Hurrican Katrina survivors.  Hopefully you will be fine, however.

From your discription, your main character should be CL80.  BTW, my Pre-CU build was Smuggler/TKM.  Things to do for xp would be first do 10 Terminal missions a day.  That should get you close to a level of xp per day.  You can't do more as there is deminishing return system on terms now after 10. Try to do quests about your level that you can find.  Kashyyyk is about a CL50 to 75 planet where Mustafar is CL80+.  Be sure to get a "Flushed with Success" buff from an Entertainer, its for xp.  You can do the Legacy Quest but you will only get significate xp once you get to Corellia.  Quest xp awards flat amounts which is differently than level xp, kill xp.  A note of Warning, the Legacy is very boring on your 2nd time around(on another character) and most despise it.  It is not very dynamic or surprising in its layout.  Go to NPC, kill X in Y amount. update, for example.

Good luck on where ever you end up. ;)

Chilistra's pop is not bad and not heavy either.

As it's free for a month at the moment, I came back to try it after about 4 years away.  After playing WoW SWG is a big dissapointment now, it was far FAR better before this NGE crap :/

Combat in SWG now feels clumsy, dull and just generaly un-polished.  After 6 years you would think they would have done a better job.

I might stay around until the free month is over just to chat to people in game, but I will be holding out for TOR.

I agree. You'd think they would have streamlined the UI and controls by now, but then you'd be wrong.

I want to like the game again, because I played pre CU and pre NGE SWG almost every single day. I love Star Wars and I'm really excited about The Old Republic, but it's mind boggling how much good they ripped out of SWG and replaced it with doo doo.

    eeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Sorry to see you both have issues with the game. but one man's trash is another man's gold I guess. I hope that they come out with an SWG 2 and give us updated everything. bring back some of what works and get rid of what doesn't. there has to be a happy medium some where? I have no issues with the story line of SWTOR but I also like the time fram of episodes 4 5 and 6

You can download the client by clicking here.  This is the trial client but it can be used with a returning vet trial or a full account, no additional download is required.

Well, after a week of playing I am starting to enjoy it again.  Even though it still needs polish, it is a LOT better than it was when the NGE was first put in.  They seem to have changed the professions a bit an added a talent tree since I last played, as well as balanced it (probably better balanced than wow currently is).

They have merged a lot of the crafting professions in to about 4 as well, the rest of the crafting content is pretty much un-touched though appart from more items.

SWG launch to NGE vet here. I left about a month after the NGE hit and all of my friends had already left.

I've been trying the free month but I find the Legacy quest/exp grind is too time consuming and not interesting at all. I miss being able to grind a new profession template using terminal missions on Dantooine - it took far less time than these unbelievable dull Legacy quests. I'm sure some people enjoy the quests but I don't. :(

Other than that, Starsider seems like the place to be if you want to find players to do raiding or pvp. (Although in my opinion, you're better off playing WoW, AoC, or EQ II for a more polished raiding system).

I'm probably going to keep playing off and on until the free time is up but I have a hard time justifying grinding and questing in a game I know I'm not going to pay for or continue to play, and I'm hoping to get into the Mortal Online beta to keep me busy until it's released :D

    Welcome back, Persephassa.

Take a look at this guide for info on levelling up in SWG: Guide: Understanding Experience Gain

It describes ways that you can set up old style grind groups using the player search tool.

    I hope it helps.
