i hope the WoW player base grows up for launch...

topic says it all.  its painful for me to even look at the official message boards anymore.  everyone in the closed beta is whining that the game in broken, bug ridden, etc. then these same people bash EQ2 saying that is has no content and its buggy on the level of SWG.

one guy even said that with the pending open beta he still expects a spring 05 launch.  i mean, come on people.  WoW as it is in beta has more content than most games have at launch. WoW in beta has less bugs that ANY other mmo ive seen at launch.  i will buy the game and play it, but im seriously woried that this game will be destroyed by the player base.

there is also a looming doubt in my head that blizzard as a company is losing its edge.  most games in closed beta select players that are experienced and know what to look for for problems.  recently on their message boards there has been floods of people in the beta saying they have never played an mmo before, others are saying they have never played an rpg game before.  it just blows my mind that these people got in in the first place.  all this leads me to believe that blizzard has been more or less doing all, or at least most, of the regression testing themselves because these very same people arent playing the game to test, they are playing the game to play.

all in all i really hope the monthly fee gets rid of the kiddies, cause they are wearing away my desire to play.

Some people are irrititating to others and it's always gonna be that way. The only thing that matters when it comes down to it is your reaction to them.

If you're gonna let the fact that people are people get in the way of your enjoyment of the game, maybe you shouldn't even bother playing at all.

My advice is to play for a while, put the people who piss you off on ignore, find a group of people who don't piss you off and make a guild. Problem solved. ::::28::

I think the current beta testers are just seeing it from their point of view and failing to see the big picture.

Their point of view = they've been playing this game for months...the "omg this game ROCKS" factor has worn off a bit.  They love the game, but when you get your character maxed out to level 60, you start to notice the flaws a lot more.  They're afraid that the game will be a huge flop if some of these flaws stay in for release.  What they're not seeing is that a lot of these flaws are really small and relatively unimportant.

I also think there's a lot of people in the closed test that haven't really played MMO games before.  I've seen a lot of that on the forums.  "This is the first MMO I've played, but..."  They're big fans of the Warcraft series and wanted to see how this game was gonna work.  What they don't understand is that an MMO is NEVER finished.  You could plan more and more and more things to fix or put in, but then you would never hit any sort of release date.  You just have to pick a point to say "Okay, this game is ready."  Not done...but ready.  Like one of the devs said, the release is a big milestone, but they are going to be continuously working on this game, providing updates and fixes and new content all the time.

The closed testers may gripe a lot, but I would bet that a majority of them would have been willing to pay money for this game months ago.  I know that I would have been willing to start paying at the time of the stress test, despite a few of the crashes and bugs I ran into.  The public is ready for this game.  With one or two patches, the most important things will be taken care of, and they can get it out there.  Blizzard is working on emptied pockets here and they really need to release the game so they can make some of that money back and start paying their devs and GMs to work hard on new content and expansions and some of the post-retail projects they have planned.

The game is ripe for release.  They need to compete with EQII and hit people up for the Thanksgiving time through December Christmas sales.

If it were up to Blizzard themselves, they may actually want to wait a few months longer...but I'm sure Vivendi is pressing for the Christmas market.

    Hi,

I agree to what you are saying here.. But we dont know Blizzard's plan, what they have done or what they are thinking. Perhaps they go for the younger generation of players this time, they are a big bunch of people and have their parents to pay for the mounthly fee. I also hope for a high fee, around 20$ / mounth or so, to give us mature players a bigger spot in the Warcraft world to "roleplay" (still know that term do ya?), and to get rid of most of the"Power Players" around.. No offence young ones! image

(yes, i am 30 years old..)

This if just my point of view, Blizzard might have a totally differnt one..

I cannot fathom why any rational consumer wishes to pay more for a product.  That's like the complete opposite of capitalism.

Anyways, I too want to stay far away from immature players.  I would prefer the existence of a roleplaying server, rather than making the faulty assumption that wealth correlates to maturity in online gaming, and that we can simply outspend the lamers.

To be honest, there have been ' immature kids' in every online game I've played, whether they were 14, or 40. While they occur at all levels, in the majority of cases, you meet these people at the low levels, and generally by the time you're out of your teens, most of them are left behind you. The very fact that they are immature, stupid, whatever, marginalizes them, as after a time, no one will group with them, so either they end up quiting, or they grow the hell up, make a new character, and start over.

I think the mythical B.net kiddie that eveyone is so worried about will be less prevelant in live than in beta, especially on the forums where they seem to spend all their time. And many of them will be siphoned off by Guild Wars when it hits the shelves, since it has no monthly fee to deal with.

well put moukin! The more I read about WOW the more interisted in it I become. I like PvP so I'm leaning towards it for my next fave MMORPG.  You can't force everyone to be mature, and you can't take whining on the beta boards for what the entire player base is going to be like.

It's been said numerous times, amongst numerous threads that these people will exist in ANY game. You really just have to have hope/faith that you will meet good people and hope to never come across the bad seeds. And really, what is the worse that could happen if you do come head to head with someone you do not like ingame? Tell them to F***Off and /ignore them. Don't let the immaturity and evil doings of other people interupt your game play. Have a little faith in Blizzard, that they will indeed keep the community balanced, and when they do see problems or are approached with a problem that they will resolve it the best way they can.

You and I know that this game is going to kick butt and you and I both will have a blast playing it at launch. Keep that in mind, and don't let the petty whiners that you dislike interfere with your experience.image
