Honestly, I think people are forgetting the most important fact of all.  This is CCP.  They made one of the harshest, most unforgiving MMO worlds out there.  They're an award winning company with a solid track record now, and they essentially are White Wolf now, who made World of Darkness in the first place.  It's not like they have much to make up on their own.  White Wolf has already created a very in-depth and lore filled world complete with mechanics already in place.  The fact that the company that created WoD in the first place is behind this project is promising in itself.  I think people are seeing the demographic and just jumping to conclusions much too quickly.

Yeah I wonder what all you can be.. IF it were me Id like to see more than just Vampire and Werewolfs. Id throw in Hunters and as you said Mages.  I just wish Assamites were still in the game, there is a clan kinda like them but its just not the same.   I  hope they have player owned lairs and clubs and stuff.  Id love to crash a Werewolf party at a club with some Vampire friends of mine.

I agree....it should include more than vamps. In 1991..it started with just vampires. They mentioned the others..but books for RPG of  Werewolves..etc. came out later. At the least it should be Kindred and Hunters...but if it does start as Vamps only...the smart thing would be to add content and sell expansions for each introduction of a new faction. Maybe an Xpac..first of Hunters...then Werewolves...Mages next...and Changelings. Or group the xpac with Hunters/garou....Mage/changling....so we don't have to wait 10 years worth of xpacs to experience a full WoD.  Of course..the best thing would be all at once....but that's quite a mouthful to swallow...no matter how long it's been chewed.

Edit: almost forgot Wraith...that was good rpging..imo. So another expansion for ghost realms.....And I think I quit before it came out...but wasn't there a separate Mummy book?

2nd edit: Apparently there was a mummy book and a demon book...so damn...thanks wikipedia.

I have been really looking forward to news of this game, and I do not want to comdemn it before it's even out of the gate, this does make me little troubled though.  I like nice avatars as much as the next person. I like housing, crafting and socializing in games and although I'm more of a PvPer at heart, I enjoy good PvE too.
Bottom line, I want to be killing stuff not playing dress up.
    I really don't want goth/emo barbie world :(
And now that I've completely jumped the gun, assumed the worst and have had

visions of Hello Kitty with vampires/werewolves, I hope I'm wrong.

Well, knowing CCP, I am kind of thinking they might be partial to 4s. As in the vamps get to be a race, while the changelings are another. The wolves and mages another two, at least to start out with.

    Amarr- Vamps

    Gallente- Mages

    Minmatar- Wolves

Caldari- Changelings (or some other major race)

Keep in mind, these are just the social constructs as I can see them, and in no way should be quoted for truth.

    -----------------------
Tried- L2, Ryzom, WAR, DDO, PWI, Tab Rasa, Requiem, Champs, AA, JD, PWI, SUN, Dawntide

Played- SWG (pre-cu), AoC, VG, WoW, LoTRO,CoX, EQ2, DAOC, GW, PotBS, Aion, MO,APB, NASA, Fallen Earth, DCUO, Rift

    Playing- EVE, Black Prophecy, TOR

Waiting for- Tera, Jumpgate Evo, WH40K, WWE, WOD, TSW

Also, this game has been in development for a while.  It was announced in 2006 (IIRC), and they have a scheduled release date (according to their own financial documents), of 2010.

So if you play EVE you must be very manly and rawwrrr....how silly ^^

People are limited in what they perceive is "sex"

(Personally Im a little tired in EVE having to shoot red crosses all the times and since I left the corp the social element was falling away...so I went to colourful and fluffy WoW again ...but what does that have to do with my "sex"....maybe it has more to do with my personal preference/desires and my feel about "gender")

Well, I have been playing White wolfs RPGs since a few months after the release of Vampire. And Vampire are extremly popular with female gamers but World of darkness is also Werewolfs, mages, hunters and many more.

So while this game will have many female gamers I don't see this as a problem in any way, we guys will get our adrenalin kick anyways. It does not target the same audience as Hello kitty online or something but the game is somwhat "gothic".

Besides, I like ladys and I don't really think more of them will make the game less fun in any ways to the rest of us as long as I can play my mage and you guys whatever you want. Vampires have always been popular with the ladies :)

And if you really need a rush and want to play something macho you can play a werewolf.

First off, you took the word of a reporter on a game that has not even been announced yet.  That spells fail in capital letters.

If you were to think about it, you would easily come to the conclusion that it was complete nonsense to start with.

So we end up with a long thread with most of you discussing a nonexistent fact that someone obviously made up to stir the pot.

    Don't you all feel foolish?

Well, it is not only CCP, White wolf is also working on it. But I don't see the problem with dressing sharp while you suck someone dry (yeah, ok, I am a goth but I think this game will be awesome, the mix between CCP and White wolf will surely be interesting).

Tbh I'm actually excited that they even refered to the game.

It's been a while since we've heard anything.

I couldn't careless who CCP targets with this thing I've been a Fan of the original rpg books and am really excited that the development of this game is moving along.

    Playing: EvE, Ryzom

...not really.  Since many have merely gone on to mention what we would like in the game. Whether it focuses on a female player base or not.

  • DelovelyDelovely Member Posts: 92

I got angry over nothing...so I feel somewhat foolish yes ..but I am also relieved, a little ^^

  • Very smart.  Anyone who has ever run a bar knows you attract the women to get the men.

Targeted at 18-25 FEMALE does not mean female only.  In fact it would most likely mean there will be many males just by virtue of the females.  Sausage parties are generally considered kind of lame.

I bet you that if it had enough females you would even get men convincing themselves the game was fun even if it wasn't to them.

Um no way possible, to put Mage into an MMO form or any computer form to be honest. Hell after reading some of the book, I personally don't know any GMs worthy enough to run a great Mage campaign.

  • Shiva_ShadowShiva_Shadow Member Posts: 216

Foolish or not a lively discussion is never wasted.

I agree having all the worlds of WoD can only help the game as it would expand the player base exponentially.

On a side-note about girls and vampires, 'Tall, dark, and handsome'  is a stereotype for female fantasy's for a good reason.  That certainly seems more true for a Vampire than it does in an everyday context.

Mythic was acclaimed when they made DAoC.Then their new MMO was based on Game Workshop Warhammer Universe but we all know how it ended up.

Until I see a video or read a review from someone from Open beta,I will hold my judgement on this game and I really hope they don`t turn it into Twilight Online.

Yes, but Mythic was also purchased by EA Games, who has a bad reputation when it comes to mergers.

Not really seeing how it led to a lively discussion and beats the usual crap you see around here.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I'm cool with it as long as the vampires don't sparkle.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

CCP is working together with White wolf here, both companies knows what they are doing.

If Mythic actually would have worked together with games workshop on WAR the game would have been better also. It is GW who refused to let Mythic release the game while Altdorf looked like crap, now it looks good but they should have been involved in the whole game and put a lot more pressure on Mythic.5

I believe that the combo of a RPG company and a game company is a killer combo, we need to get the RPG back into MMORPG.

Ahhhh...but when you did find one...Mage games were the shite. My concern is how or if they will even utilize Paradox....loss of humanity.....and whatever else it was called for the other factions..or masquerade violations and human response.....and to what degree.  As easy and broadbased as most developers want to make mmos. I see a problem arising..when the first players start to lose their longtime characters to "loss of humanity" penalties and Masquerade violations.  It would make elysium meaningless without such penalties.  The saving grace is that ..these are the same people who brought us EVE online (working closely, I believe with WhiteWolf)...and although I do not care for EVE....it is not for the fact that it can be honestly brutal...Which is what an online game based on and called "The World of Darkness" deserves.

Crow has a good point, but it does have alot of potential brutal or not.

P.s. Give me a Gangrel with a couple of freak-outs and some cat charactistics, and I will be purrfectly happily.

    p.p.s.  I know REALLY bad pun, but I couldn't resist ^^.
