What are some of the things that are prominent in other games that you hope Bioware has the good sense to eliminate?
I'll list a few:
I really don't want to see "Kill X many of Y", "Deliver this to X", "Collect X many of Y and bring them back to me" quests. I don't think TOR is going to do this since it is supposed to be story based, but I really dont' want to see this.
I don't want to see a static world. I'd like to see mine, my guilds, and my factions accomplishments impact the game world around me in a meaningful way. Town/planet takeovers, whatever.
I don't want to see a gear grind. I don't want gear to be the deciding factor in a battle, I don't want gear to completely define who your character is, and I don't want the quest for bigger and better gear to make up the majority of the end game. No gear treadmill. The fun should be in playing the game and experiencing the stories, not getting shinies.
I don't want to see every player of a certain class being clones. I'd like to see some more variety in a class beyond a three tier "talent system".
I'd like to hear what other people would particularly not like to see in this game.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

Easy, I don't want to see an alpha class like what ruined SWG.
We shall see but I think it says something about Bioware trying to build balanced classes that include Jedi that they are previewing Bounty Hunter and Smuggler and such first. We shall see how the game comes out but if you got non Jedi classes they have to be balanced for the game to work.
Also, I really don't want to see a completely story/quest driven game. Story and quests are all fine and dandy but a linear path prescribed by the developer is not in keeping with the 'your saga begins' thing that this MMO is adopting as its tagline and that I think really is the heart of a good MMO. Not saying I want or expect a complete sandbox but I do not want a complete linear SP game with chat.

People comparing it to another game who was made by SOE.
And RMT shops of course.
I don't want to see SWG fans ruining a good franchise.
I dont want some repetitive gear grind in instanced pvp or dungeons.
I want to level my class, enjoy its unique storyline, tweak my little NPC helper and grab a nice little armor set for being max level ( one that is gotten through the main campaign) and move onto the next class.
Playing: EvE, Ryzom
Dont want to see tons of jedi waving their epeens around. that'll be what ruins the game
Disgruntled SWGers.
I don't want to see any raiding, ever.
I don't want a long ass grind. Replay ability goes down the tubes if it's a crappy grind for every new character.
I don't want any emphasis on crafting. I want this to be an adventure game, not some economic simulation.
No RMT please! If EA ruins this game with RMT, I will never, ever buy another one of their products.
OMG, I do not want yet another Tank/DPS/Healer class paradigm game. Please allow us to adventure without the frigging Holy Trinity!
With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal
Apparently the game is going to have you make decisions that affect your "story" in the virtual world. I don't want to make decisions, create a story, and then have some greedy, irrational game executive delete and rewrite all of it in a half-baked attempt to capture Blizzard's audience.
I don't want to make progress in a story, only to have to buy an RMT lightsaber to complete the final mission in a particular quest line. I definitely don't want to have to pay real cash for a random chance of getting gear in the game.
I don't want to be told that the next update will have certain features, pay a subscription to get those features, and then find out after I've paid that the features aren't coming after all.
Otherwise, I'm pretty open to whatever Bioware has created. They're a good company with excellent developers. It doesn't have to be sandbox, linear etc. etc.. I'll take what they give me and give it a try. Everything they've done so far has been excellent.
My kids are playing KOTOR for the third time now, and they still haven't completed all the side quests in that game. That's just great stuff.
10 Year-old WoW players.
I don't want an immature community who only shows ignorance and stupidity like WoW has been.
Currently playing: Star Wars: The Old Republic, World of Warcraft, Dota 2, League of Legends
Waiting on: Blade & Soul, Guild Wars 2, Tera, Kingdoms of Amular, Firefall
Remember that fat dancing broad in Jabba's Palace in Return of the Jedi?
Yeah I don't want to see her if I'm on Hutta.
I dont want to see people whine about not being able to get decent gear
I dont want to see people whine about other people having more play time than them
I dont want to see people whine about balance
I dont want to hear people say they want pvp then cry because they have been ganked in a starter area and are too stupid to leave
I dont want to see developers pander to whiny adult babies
I dont want to everyone in the same gear with the same stats (random loot generator ftw)
I dont want 2 races and 8 classes
I dont want mirror classes
I dont want to see people whine about raiding being too difficult
Just some of the things I would love to see when a new game is released
AC - Harvestgain
DAOC - Mordred
WoW - Burning Blade
EQ2 - Nagafen
WAR - Dark Crag
AION - Castor
RIFT - Whitefall
SWTOR - TOFN
GW2 - Desolation
And practically all others to some degree
You don't really know what this game is, do you?
The only thing I really do not want to see is Jedi and Sith being each others only counter class. There needs to be a non-jedi class that is a counter to sabers and the force.
Personally I don't think the obvious answer is Bounty Hunter, seriously in the movies when did a BH ever track a Jedi? From my memory it was just Han and Padme.
Darth Maul more or less acted as a Bounty Hunter. Vader did too, in seeking out the Jedi to kill them. But if you read the books about Maul, you will get the feeling he is more than just a 'Sith'... there is a lot of BH to his work (TK, too).
...
What I don't want to see... is the watering down of classes to the point that they no longer seem 'Star Warsy or Iconic', lol.
No easy escape buttons.
Nothing pissed me off more in SWG than to have a player almost dead and then for him to hit "Instant Heal" "Instant cloak" or "Instant run". No one should be able to refill their health bar, disappear or run away in the middle of a battle.
No insane dots and buffs
Let's not get into a situation where I have to buff myself out the whatsoo just to PVP. And let's not have any DOT wars.
Currently Playing: World of Warcraft
NO reputation grinds.
NO PVP grinds.
NO raid grings.
NO crafting grinds.
NO GRINDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO emphasis on gear.
NO gear resets.
NO gating content through gear or any other means.
NO holy trinity of grouping (tank, dps, healer).
NO raiding of any kind. 5-6 person groups should be the max size required for ANY content in the game.
NO content gating through group sizes. (ie. you need 20 damn people to unlock some BS content)
NO grouping requirements to drive the main storyline forward. Your main storyline should be able to move forward without finding 4-5 other people.
I want a DEEP story with lots of exploration and adventure...and regular content updates. Not 2 years between content where we have to do one of the things listed above. Ugh. If this happens...I cancel.
Romantic interludes involving a hutt. Ewwww
