Darkfall questions, Crafting/Gathering

ElendilasXElendilasX Member Posts: 243

I asked this once DF "opened" but there was no real answers. Yes I know that game is PvP based mostly. But if want nonstop pvp i will go CS servers where is mods with such stuff as lvls, skills, sort of magic and etc.

So questions now is:

How is crafting? Do I need many various materials to craft high-end items? Do I need to aquire hard-to-get recipes or I just skill up by grinding and it will just open or open like buyable option? Is there any exclusive recipes which are near imposible to get but items crafted are way above normals?

How is material gathering? Yes I know that low-end mats are only grinding with macro, but is there any rare mats which for you need to venture to depths of hell to aquire but they worth fortune? Does nods have limits on them and they disappear after depleted and spawn in other places or is it static?

hmm, i have not done any crafting. But i have looked throu the list for components for some items, and you seems to need a fairly large amount of different ingredients.

But what i do now is this: The DF world is dynamic. What does that have to do with crafting some may ask! Well, everything actually. You need to learn skils from NPCs, with you must find. Then have the right place to craft, wich can be in a enemy city. While gathering wood or iron you can end up in a clan war, or if you are lucky...just killed and looted. Of course you find a nice clan city do some harvesting there. If the nodes dont run out.

Just download the harvest hack and youll be set,,,no wait, get the "Flying Ducthman" hack and you wont have to harvest a thing.

Crafting involves 3 major stages and an optional one.

gathering the mats, refining them into components, use them for crafting by combining normal and rare ones. And last but not least enchant them (weapons and apparel) if you have the skill.

Most of the recipes do not have to be purchased by vendors they just appear highlighted when you have the appropriate skill level and materials. Enchanting recipes though must be guessed by you or even better by putting an enchanted item (loot or drop) in the enchanting ring.

Here are some recipe examples from various proffesions:

How to make a mount: (tamer)

Get the taming skill and a whistle : cost 700 gp

get a sickle (20 gp) and gather herbs until you find a steedgrass.

    Alchemist

    Major Healing Potion

    Requires : 1x Empty Bottle, 1x Blood, 10x Gold, 2x Heart

    Corpsecall. (staff)

    Requires : 5x Iron, 5x Lifeforce, 1x Oncylusian Corpseflesh, 125x Gold

    Armorsmith

Banded Armor – Skill LvL needed :>=25

    Total: 45Gold, 36 iron ingots, 12 Leather.

    - Vambraces:

    5.0 Gold ,

    3.0 iron ingots

    1.0 Leather

    - Elbow Pads:

    5.0 Gold

    3.0 Iron ingots

    1.0 Leather

    - Girdle:

    5.0 Gold

    3.0 Iron ingots

    1 Leather

    - Helm:

    5.0 Gold

    6.0 Iron ingots

    2.0 Leather

    - Greaves:

    5.0Gold

    3.0 Iron ingots

    1.0 Leather

    - Legs:

    5.0 Gold

    3.0 Iron ingots

    1.0 Leather

    - Spaulders:

    5.0 Gold

    3.0 Iron ingots

    1.0 Leather

    - Chest:

    10.0 Gold

    12.0 Iron ingots

    4.0 Leather

    Apple pie:

1 apple, 1 wheet  (using pots and pans)

You can by wheet from an npc vendor but you can't buy the apple, you will have to search for a fruit tree.

Most of the materials in the afore mentioned professions have to be looted, gathered or skinned from various mobs. NPC vendors don't sell them. Gathering tools can't be crafted they must be either purchased or by finding toolboxes.

Also most of the advanced repices require gold and when it comes to enchantment you must use crafted items (for better effects) and not ones dropped by mobs. Actualy mob dropped weapons and armor suck since they have low durability.

    Enchanting example:

A 2 handed Axe transmution into trollbane (fire damage) needs:

5xCinder 5xBile 5xSparkStone 1x Ichor  (catalyst)  , 1000 gp to get the skill and 100 gp to perform every experiment.

Some mats are rare. In fact they are too damn rare. If you find an astrolab for example you can sell it for about 20-25 k very easily.

There are no node spawns in DF. It is static, Rocks trees are just there for you to find and take what you need but unfortunately there are many others who do the same. So always prepare for fights around them. After each server reset they are about 35 percent capacity so you better forget about gathering 200 iron ore around cities in a couple of minutes.

I hope you get the basic idea of crafting. Some of these professions need team support especially construction professions while some can just be done by soloing around like herbalism, by simply gathering herbs and buying bottles from npcs.

But beeing the best is not easy since DF has too many support skills that enhance the results of any crafting procedure so you have to purchase various skills that will make your products better.

And most important forget about beeing a crafter with low wisdom. Wisdom even affects the extraction of rare mats including steedgrass and rare ore.

Crafting and harvesting is brain numbingly boring, that is the bottom line.

EQ was less boring then this game is for crafting / harvesting.

You auto hit a tree and harvest wood until you run out of stamina, rest, repeat until the tree runs out of wood. Same for rocks, herbs.

You have to combine click items to make them one at a time. So for example you will need several tens of thousands of arrows to get archery skill to a decent level. Enjoy clicking tens of thousands of times with a failure rate to make those arrows.

You mine / harvest nodes in a city and have NO fear of fights for nodes. Everything you need is available under the watchful eye of the guard towers without ever having to leave town. The cities are empty enough that you won't have any hassle from other people getting all the raw material you need in town and the gobby spawns just outside of town for the leather.
