These SWG vets make the rest of us look bad. For everyone who never played SWG pre-cu, or SWG for that matter, most of us have moved on. It's just a vocal minority of people who should be having fun with their emu, but aren't, who feel the need to troll. Based on what I see If I was a developer I wouldn't want any of these folks playing my game, I'm just sayin.
Bioware dosen't they loathe them and have already been clear that the SWG idiocy will not be tolerated. The ban them as soon as they start spouting off their crap and the vast majority of the TOR forum goers have zero tollerence for them.
They have zero tolerance for anyone being an asshat over there period, now. It was out of hand for a while though. The first day the forums went live was the worst I think.

Well there seems to be a lot of them, or just the same few using multiple accounts.
10 or 12 is a lot? lol
After about every 5 positive post you get a random "I BETA"D SWG AND PLAYED TILL CU" guy/girl. Count the threads right now of people claiming doom and gloom for this game.
I also gave another reason, perhaps you missed it. Multiple accounts?
Well yeah, that's a given, since they get banned often. Point is there isn't as many angry ones left as there once was.
It's hard for me to imagine that the end-game of The Old Republic will be anything but PvP focused.
I think it's the difference between Fantasy and Science Fiction that really throws it off for me.
In fantasy MMO's you can throw in big Dragon raid bosses and crazy huge monsters etc. etc. because they make sense in a fantasy environment.
In science fiction they always seem to maintain a certain realm of believability.
Fantasy never has to explain anything, they can simply say it's magic but in Science Fiction everything has to have a semi-plausable back story and explanation.
So how do you have PvE end-game in a sci-fi MMO?
Star Wars has never been about big huge monsters, Sarlaac, the Rancor, and the asteroid slugs are about it... Star Wars at it's core has always been about good versus evil which are very human concepts, thus people versus people, or for a MMO player versus player (PvP).
So you can have instances and raid/dungeon bosses focused around the two factions, but you don't really have a 3rd party villian in a Jedi vs. Sith game that both factions can PvE against, so you make instances/dungeons/raids that focus on high level factional enemies but then you eliminate half the player base from logically being able to kill those encounters.
So if you can't do really big monsters and you have no 3rd party villian... you are left with PvP (faction vs faction) as the only really logical choice for end-game content.
At least, this is in terms of repeatable, large scale end-game content we generally associate "end-game content" with. I'm sure the various story arcs will have their own "end-game" situations but if the story is suppose to be personalized to your class/character it can't really be a traditional group/large group PvE encounter...
I just love it when people crap like this.....its not even in beta yet and already "its gonna fail!!". Star Wars Galaxys didn't fail even after all the changes that came to it. I play it and I like it. so does that make it a failure? it still has quite the following. EvE for the first 2 years only had 10K active players at any one time....its still going. if you want to compare any games level of success you have to compare it to WoW, and if you do that then EVERY game listed on MMORPG.COM is a failure!!! and if thats the case then move on back to your super nintendo and quit your whinning on these forums.
Where is everybody getting these crystal balls to see into the future?
From deep within certain orifices of their bodies.
There is absolutely no way to tell if The Old Republic will fail just from a single CGI trailer. There's no beta to speak of, no other information to go on other than what Bioware has said publicly so far, and no reason to say "OMG! FAIL!" yet. It's ridiculous that people are even trying to do that at all.
I've had some similar thoughts, but I think it will do very well. So many gamers are looking for the next big fix, and with the all start dev team they can't go wrong . . . can they?
"Hey, I'll tell you what. You can get a good look at a butcher's azz by sticking your head up there. But, wouldn't you rather to take his word for it?" - Tommy Boy
Star Wars: The Old Republic will probably be one of the most amazing games, but after what I've seen, this game simply won't be a success. However, let's start with the basics. GAMEPLAY: Star Wars: The Old Republic will obviously have gameplay similar to the trailer most of us have seen in at E3 yesterday. I know Star Wars will have the most fun fast paced gameplay of let's just say all MMORPGs. However, Tabula Rasa probably had the most addicting gameplay in the world and it was shutdown by NCSoft. STORY: That is particularly because Tabula Rasa had boring quests and an uninteresting storyline. I know without a doubt that Star Wars: The Old Republic will have the best storyline of all MMORPGs. A fully voiced MMORPG, dang, I know it's going to feel real like a regular RPG. The storyline is already EPIC! The Sith vs. The JEDI! I couldn't ask for anything better. And, gameplay like Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic, you can't beat it. ENDGAME: Age of Conan and Warhammer had some amazing gameplay. The storylines sucked but gameplay can make up for that. However, both games lacked endgame and eventually failed. They were released incomplete. I know Star Wars: The Old Republic is going to be complete, but that' the mistake BioWare is making, they are working too hard on the actual game. Most if not all developers forget about the endgame. What is their problem? So, if Star Wars : The Old Republic doesn't have fun and exciting endgame, it will fail like the rest. Share your thoughts.
it is going to fail due to it being another boring wow class based mmorpg rather then what it should be a skill based system with 32+ professions unlockable jedi and mass pvp
no one gives a crap about storyline outside the rperz and to date we have run them off every mmo that comes out get a clue rperz you are not wanted. also everyone is sick to death of class based systems thats why the makers of dungeons and dragons are going under thats why none of the rpgs at e3 looked good and thats why gaming has gone down hill if bioware wants tor to be good it needs to be
sandbox
skill based
heavy pvp end game
crafting being the only way to get items along with that having decay in order for people to buy new items from the crafter
as for space in tor no jtls is one of the big things that helped run swg as it did bring the action gamers in still if bioware does all of the above i smell wow numbers

Oh look at the ignorrant fool. Why don you go and join the rest of the people that somehow escaped darwins natural selection in Darkfall? OH RIGHT, beacuse it sucks even to much for you! Hope you have fun times with the EMU, oh wait....It' not going to happend either!
People do give crap about the story line, and sandbox isn't the godly mmo standard. Most of the Sandbox games thats been out there has turned to shit. SWG was a piece of shit and still is a piece of shit. Sure it was fun, but it had more buggs and disclaimers than the IRAQ invasion plan.
SWG IS DEAD, MOVE ALONG.
Starwars Galaxies, An Empier Diveded, That's what it says on my box anyway.

Biowares solo RPG games have sold millions so some people like roleplaying. You just have to live with that not all games are focusing on what you want. Bioware do have a big and faithful fan base and they make the game for them, not for the old SWG players.

Hmm, let us check PC bestseller games by Mythic Funcom and Bioware... Funny, Bioware have a lot while the other 2 have none. Bioware know what they are doing. They have an experienced crew that made a lot of great games.
Don't let your enthusiasm run away with you. Bioware has never made an MMORPG before - and the number of undoubtedly successful MMORPGs is very small.

Blizzard never made a mmo before and look how theirs turned out. They made rts and rpg games before WOW. Bioware has a proven track record of making great games and they also have a huge fanbase.

True, but the most successful MMORPG of all time was made by a company who had never made a MMORPG before.... Good companies are good companies. And imo Bioware has a better reputation for RPG's than Blizzard.
I will agree with you, if you can name 1 game bioware has done that has failed.

True, but unfortunately Bioware's partner - correction, senior partner - in this enterprise is Lucas Arts which has a nightmarishly bad record in the production, management, development and servicing of computer games based on its franchises.

Well the one Star Wars game that Bioware made won game of the year and is considered by many to be the best RPG of all time. Bioware did not make KOTOR 2 just KOTOR.

It might fail, I don't have a crystal ball like the rest of you so I won't deny the possibility that the game could be a total flop.
However, how do you call WAR *and to a lesser extent, AoC) a failure? sure, it lost a fair few of it's subscriptions, like most overhyped games do after the initial burst, but they are both running well and are better than they ever were.
WAR still supposedly has about 300,000 subscriptions, Everquest II has less than that and it's still running well.
Back on subject, I have a fair amount of faith in Bioware (little in Lucasarts, though). If they remember to give George Lucas a colouring book and some crayons while they write the storylines and get the game done, then the game might actually be good. Oh, I forgot, no Gungans.

A failure is a game closing down.
Both AoC and WAR could put major dev time into improving their game over the next year or two and really see an increase of players.
Failure = Dead.
Neither of those games failed imo.
ToR wont fail either, I think ToR will be as popular as guildwars was (around 5-6 million users overall).
