Problems with the forums

Ok, I'm quite new around here, and have some problems posting on the forums:

At first I couldn't post at all using Opera, had to resort to IE, this somehow seems to be fixed now. Opera sometimes has problems with java applets, maybe that's the reason. May I suggest changing this system in the future? Java is not really the best thing to have in place for forum software. ;)

Another problem is with posts disappearing that I have just written. The thread sometimes appears at the top of the page as IT should, but sometimes my post is not visible and the thread is still where it was before, say on page 2 for instance. Again this is an Opera problem only, as IE works fine.

Could someone explain this to me maybe? ;)

Then again maybe updating Opera would solve it, seeing as there's a new version out...

The post issue isn't limited to Opera, you can get it with IE as well. Just try and always copy your post into the buffer (Ctrl-A/Ctrl-C) before trying to submit.

No, that's not what I meant. ;) The post is still there after I submitted it, it just isn't being shown sometimes...
Anyway, I just updated to the newest version of Opera, see how it helps.

    Couple notes:

    1) Go into your settings and select the BBML editor as your default editor under "Forums & Chat".  If you are not running IE this is the best choice...the enhanced editor will try Java if you are not running IE and Java sucks as we all know :)

    2) We are working on a new and more solid version of these boards...ETA is 4-6 weeks.  Hopefully many of the bugs will be addressed and a more browser independent system will emerge image

    Thank you for your feedback!

Thank you, but I was using the traditional BBML anyway.

Still, getting rid of java in the forum will most likely solve the problems. ;)

There is no java in the BBML editor currently...only in the WYSIWYG editor if you are not running IE.  Our next version is going to use a pure DHTML control that will work on all browsers...except Opera :)  They have not adopted the required standards needed for it - but it will work in Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape and IE - Opera users will just get a plain text window.

Whichever button I run my curser over, has some java script adress. And that's using the " Traditional BBML (all browsers)" setting, so I figured there is some java hidden in there. ;) Which is fine btw, as it works with Opera, but still the problem with the posts remains. Reloading a page a few times usually helps though.

Ah, that is JavaScript - not Java...totally different things image  Creating web pages without JavaScript is nearly impossible these days...it is a fundamental thing if you want any level of client-side interaction.

The post thing sounds like Opera is caching the pages on you.  Check to see if there are options for cache control in Opera.

Thanks for clearing things up. ;) The cache suggestion sounds reasonable, I just turned document caching off, see what happens...

Nope, still have to reload a thread to see the newest post sometimes. Might still have something to do with the cache, but I give up. ;)
