Hmm, I wonder how this will be.
From TTH:
"Cat and mouse duo get their own MMOG.
Tom and Jerry have been a popular cartoon for many years, but now a joint venture between Turner Entertainment and TurnOut Ventures is taking the game of cat and mouse to a whole new level. Recently they announced that the dynamic duo of Tom and Jerry will be getting their own MMOG. The game is set to launch in the second quarter of 2010, giving the iconic cartoon characters their own virtual world for players to enjoy. So get ready to smash enemy kitties in the face with frying pans while stealing the cheese and making them trip their own traps. The Tom and Jerry MMOG will be developed by Hong Kong-based developer Typhoon Games."
From Massively:
"Tom and Jerry and Ben 10 coming to the MMO realm
by James Egan Jun 2nd 2009 at 8:00PM
We've written a bit about the Cartoon Network MMO FusionFall of late, which enjoys a great deal of popularity with younger MMO gamers. Now it looks like two other cartoons will be coming to the MMO space: Tom and Jerry and Ben 10. Tom and Jerry is going massively multiplayer (for Asia in 2010) through TurnOut Ventures Limited, a joint venture between Turner Entertainment Holdings Asia Pacific Limited and Outblaze Investments Limited.
Hong Kong-based Typhoon Games (who are developing Hello Kitty Online) is developing the Tom and Jerry MMO. A look at the TurnOut Ventures product page also shows they're working on Ben 10 Omniverse. Both massively multiplayer titles are being built on the Unity game engine, for PC and Mac compatibility. There's no announcement at this time for North American or European releases of either title. It was met with a large gag from the MMORPG.com community
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Rightly so.
Doktar - 70 Troll Priest - Perenolde
Oh my, I think I'll cry trying to figure out how in the world this game can make itself entertaining in the long run as a MMO.
If it were based on the 1940's-50s versions of Tom & Jerry I'd be interested. More than likely it will be based on the 60's and later versions that have had all of the cartoon violence edited out so all you end up with is "cat chases mouse" and not a frying pan to the head in sight. I'll pass.
