If FFXIV is as group heavy as FFXI was, no thanks.
They've already stated it won't be.

One mentioned moving away from the heavy grouping of 11 and making the game more balanced for both grouping and solo play.
Good, I actually liked FFXI, minus the complete and utter hate that I couldn't do anything without a group...
I remember spending most of my days grinding on green con mobs while looking of a group, for hours. by the time I got into group I had to log
They need to replace the crafting system too... the having to have a buff to get those crystals off mobs was pretty stupid.
Have you considered that some people actually like the game being a challenge to play? It's people like you whining about how difficult games are that is causing them to be dumbed down to retard-land. Go play a simple game, the genre is full of them. Why must they all be devolved to simplified, hand holding, solo-centric theme parks?
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
I don't see why mention ffxiv and aion in same sentence lol. ffxi is still the most unique and best mmorpg ever made so ffxiv is going to be a ffxi style up to date and none of these clonegames will ever reach. Tried aion and is same old quest grinder pc mmos been having for years with shiny grafix, no depth, no story, just kill x amount of mobs over and over. Oh and if someone says wow had more people then ffxi all i will say is better off that way the community of ffxi was the best i ever met and you felt like game friends were real life friends. Oh and if someone says forced group is bs its because thats the people that like to play single player games but want the online part to brag about themselves so pretty much people i dont want to see in ff game cause they mess up the whole spirit of the game. i forsee 6-8 years in ffxiv myself i spent 6+ in ffxi and was the best experience i ever had in a videogame. Well whoever will play aion good luck on a singleplayer online game.
I know we say this every year it seems, but 2009-2010 could be very promising for MMO's.... Champions, DC Comics, Star Trek, Aion, SW TOR, FFXIV, all look very promising..... But the difficult thing is picking one, or maybe two. At least for me, I can't sub to all of them!

I'm all for a challenge.
Look I played FFXI for 3 months back in March-June 2004.
I would played 7 am to about 11 am EST, just over 3 hours during that 4 hour block of time.
You know what I ended up doing 90% of my time?
Soloing.... grinding even so slowly on green con mobs, that netted like no xp.
Why? I couldn't find a group then from some reason...
About 10:30 am is usually someone finally asks me if I wanted to group up.
but I would have decline cause I would have log soon...
You can see how that really rub someone like me the wrong way to forced grouping, Can't ya?
I got tired of that, quick, and quit.
I just what solo play to be viable, for those times I can't find a group....
In FFXI, solo play wasn't viable... it was painfully boring
It does have to be a themepark either...
You can make it just like FFXI but with viable solo play, and I would be happy.
What I don't what them to do is add quests that net XP for completing them...
That is something I think we need to get away from.

It won't be. That's one of the things they've been emphasizing.

Quests should completely optional.
