Keep in mind that Bioware is not involved in this MMO, so don't expect anything like what you have previously experienced with Neverwinter Nights. All you'll get is another version of D&D. What does Neverwinter Nights REALLY have to offer? No really unique world or settings, nothing that hasn't been done over and over. Really it will come down to the kind of gameplay they are able to introduce...
Have to agree with most of the post except it being just another fantasy setting . Its forgotten realms imo is what the DDO setting shouldve used, maybe it might have had more subs.
A Good example of your post is bioware not being involved is Kotor 2. Decent game but not what Bioware coulve done with it.
Time will tell with NWN mmo.
Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR. Playing EVE Online and AOC. Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD
Cryptic made city of heroes and city of villians before they sold everything to NCSoft not to long ago.
They also got the license for Marvel Universe Online, but microsoft canceled the project. Mythic then acquired the license for the Champions systems and revamped their Marvel project into that game.
They were also awarded the Star Trek license after Perpetual dropped the ball on that one.
Now neverwinter nights added to their list. Things look promising for the company.
I agree with whoever said it above, cryptic was always a little short of greatness in my opinion.
As for a neverwinter nights mmo, I think it has huge possibilities. Consider that Star Wars Galaxies and City of Heroes both have player generated content building systems inside the games, that opens the possibility for NWN mmo to do the same. That is the big strength of the franchise and would be crazy to ignore that. Who wouldn't love to have an mmo where the players do most of the content work for you.
I wasn't a big fan of COH/COV, but I respect what cryptic did and the game they made. It didn't really fit my style of play, but it was still a very good game. I'm just glad to see companys making new games and even more pleased that it isn't being awarded to a company with a promising track record.
It's kind of fitting, considering the original Neverwinter Nights was basically a D&D MMORPG on AOL. Seemed always a bit cheap stealing the name for a non-MMORPG...should have used the FRUA name (since FRUA was a building tools thing, like the Bioware NWN)
But is this a Bioware game? Or just uses its name..... cuz i can telll right away, if it isnt developed by Bioware it will be a sad attempt to get some profit over other fantasy games and will certainly ruin Neverwinter Nights name as a quality game.

Hmm, what games have Cryptic made?

R.I.P. City of Heroes and my 17 characters there
I will NEVER replace baldur's gate 2, u hear me!? NEVEERRRR
this announcement doesn't mean anything to me. As history has proven time and time again a big name doesn't automatically mean a good game.
Until I play it, it goes into the simple hand holding theme park mmo category. Unfair, I know, but hopefully they prove me wrong.
