FFXIV - What would you like to see?

NedaxNedax Member Posts: 115

I posted this over in the FFXI forums, but I'd like to repost it here since it really belongs here. This is to see what you'd like implemented into FFXIV based on FFXI. This is purely for discussion people!

Final Fantasy XI was released a few years before the popular MMO's of today. Square-Enix opted for something different and chose the UI that works well with a game pad (makes sense, since most players were on the PlayStation 2 when it was released).

But now since a lot of MMO's have been using the mouse-based UI's, do you think SE would adapt to this new system? (I know it was used in EverQuest and what-not before FFXI and the popular MMOs of today--but SE didnt use them). I'm figuring they'll probably use a similar UI because of it coming for the PS3/PC. But personally, I think that is what I would like to see changed the most for FFXIV--a new-user friendly UI.

Let's try and keep the flames to minimum here.. :)

Personally I really liked the FFXI controls.

Once I got used to them I never even used my mouse. Keyboard only was a breeze to navigate.

I would like to see a few things, one being a mouse or at least kjeyboard forced to be used with PS3 and should be the same for XBOX/PC if thats what its released on.

Other stuff I hope they implement: More soloable quests that are fun!

    Mounted chocobo combat

not INC crafting but something poeple can work on a littel bit at a time without sinking everything rescource on their character just to make little progress.

Guild implements GUI for easier guild marking. and player cities would be a big bonus, and player housing.

Arena battles, so Im able to dual other players in a safe environment where other players can watch in saftey and possibly bet to win gil or w/e the currency is in Eorzea.

Other player driving games, with monsters too, or both, players VS monsters and players VS players working to get a certain goal or number of party based kills in a limited time with prizes for the winning team.

I most want to see a similar job system - and this looks promising.

I also want slow party centric levelling, meaningful quests and a suitable death penalty.

A level sync system from the start would also be welcome.

I have played FFXI for a very long time.... I started out with a couple really good friends and since the time we have played this game we have discussed on many, many occassions what we would like to see.

One, I would love to see the Quest engine be completely upgraded, which will be pretty obvious that they will. The idea that I had to go alternate locations (Alla and Curcible LS page) and my Linkshell page consistantly to get assistance with quests or missions drove me nuts. I would like to see an in game quest log to help players move along.

Two, Crafting made a tad bit easier. When I couldnt get a party cause the level 50 range sucked (we will get into that later...) I loved to spend time crafting. The fact that I had to stand a certain direction to increase my chances of success was retarded. I do feel that your success rate should have more to do with your level but hey... it worked. But my biggest gripe would be to increase the success rate of crafting. Skilling up hurt bad when you dumped a lot of money into a job only not to be able to sell the item.

Three, Equipment, I loved the equipment in the last game, but I would love to have some way to design your own equipment. I doubt that will happen but I have a good feeling that this game will be more about Character and customization. Something they stated that will be more focused on in the New game...err New World? lol.

Thats pretty much it, they have stated that they are going to work on the solo ability and making it easier to level or be antisocial lol! But I hope that doesnt take away from the partying aspect. I did like the partying aspect In FFXI, But I hated the fact that I wanted to party but it was hard to do so. Level 50's were probably the worse for Melee jobs. Being a Samurai at level 50 was painful!!! yes there were other jobs that cruised through level 50. Ahem! WHM,BRD,RDM,WAR and NIN all seemed a breeze to me. It maybe different for others but this one, my friends and I definitely agreed on.

All in all I am just glad that they are making a new game! Their new graphics engine a combo of their work and Unreal engine is going to be great! Regardless of my gripes above, I will be happy with a New Final Fantasy game! Oh and thank god for this area, I have been dying to say those things!

Please please please, keep the harsh death penalty....loss of XP and Levels or weapon skill levels!  It weeds out the tards that don't know how to think or learn new strategies, sending them back to the the abyss of WoW and the new WoWish-Aion....muhahahah

I also want another silent MMO where general chat is basically restricted to /tells and LS chat, and players only speak openly for the most part when its neccessary and game related!

the above poster has got the engione mixed up, mortal online will be using the Unreal engine, I think the engine that SE is using for FFXIV is called revnant or possibly changed now to a newer name.

its been what 7 years, lets not think that square is left in the past. they have been watching how the mmorpg market has grown and prob are up to date on what is required as standard in todays mmorpgs.

the only reason why ffxi still has its control scheme is due to that it was 1st released on the ps2, then ported to the pc then xbox 360.

Both ps3 and xbox 360 do have a good amount of keyboards to choose from so from that standpoint they are not limited like they were with the ps2. Oh and do not disguard the xbox 360, ff14 will just release on the ps3 and pc 1st then later on the xbox will get a release.

Probably the ONLY thing i would like to see is that the game gets released everywhere at the same time, i would get pissed to find out it will come out in japan 1st and we have to wait 6 to 8 months to then join the shared servers.

XIII is being released for Xbox360 so I imagine SE will be releasing XIV on 360 as well.

They have already said they are doing a simultaneous worldwide release of the game, hopefully they will also be releasing the game simultaneously on PC, PS3, and 360.

The user interface was one of my biggest problems with XI.

An updated UI that is more user friendly and "modern" but still extremely functional with only a gamepad like the XI scheme would be great.

I hope XIV allows for solo play through questing, missions, etc. without being too grindy and having ridiculous downtime...

but that being said I hope they highly encourage grouping. It IS possible to have both.

Like have XP gain modifiers if you are in a group and increased TP gain (if they use TP again) so with a group you can burn through mobs a lot faster.

Include a lot of group-only dungeons and such for ALL level ranges, and definetely include the level sync system from the beginning.

Some way to level your subjob along with your main job would be great so you don't have to go back to starting areas and grind back up levels on your subjob.

As long as they keep in the meaningful quests and keep the max level high (75 still good) so it's an achievement to reach, but not an achievement through the fact you could put up with the ridiculous drudgery and tedium of level/group grinding.

Just my thoughts. I'm not big on crafting or PvP so I'd perfer a game with amazingly good story, character developement, a focus on grouping and group dungeons/story/encounters but still allow for solo play to make meaningful gains without too much tedium and headache when you don't have as long to play.

I would love to see the crafting success rate raised.  I loved FFXI and it wouldn't bother me if FFXIV were party centric like XI but I would like to see options for the more casual player, or those of us who can only play for 45 minutes to and hour during the week.  Thats the reason I left FFXI was because when my schedule changed and I only had a small amount of time during the week I really had nothing to do other than craft (but this gets hard to do when your money got low and it did when all you did was craft).  I will be happy to see some options for solo stuff to do (that isn't all pvp) but the game itself still be party centric, not sure how to do that but SE has been great in the past and I am sure this game will be as great.

I did read that they do have plans to accomodate casual players who play as little as 40 minutes a day, just saying that I wouldn't mind if the core of the game was still party centric, its fun to do that on the weekends when I have time!

I haven't played FFXI in awhile so this may be different now, but when I was playing the game at certain lvls different jobs become "not needed" and you couldn't get a group with that job except rarely.  I hope that this isn't repeated in FFXIV.

I have every plan of getting FFXIV when it releases! I think it will be great!

I'd love to see a more-interactive world. Instead of always having to find a different path around an old broken door raised like a porticulus,  maybe have someone with high enough strength be able to raise it for the party to pass through, for a limited time. Allow some spots where we can jump from things, even if its a set spot where we jump from one small platform to the other with no chance of missing. More dynamic movement would be great!

I also want to see more "true dungeon" areas to this game. Give me and my party a reason to push deep and explore further into this dungeon, instead of finding a small "camp" area and fighting the same things over and over! I want to explore areas, not utilize certain spots and pretend the other creatures and areas don't exist!

Lastly, Male Mithra, or something else!

I thought that Square bought the Unreal and made there version of it calling it Crystal Tools. I was wrong. They developed Crystal Tools before they licensed Unreal engine. So yes I was mixed up, The Unreal was used for The Last Remnant which was a good game as well.

I'm going to keep this really short. I want the same FFXI goodness and the same features, like housing, intense crafting, better harvesting for materials it'd be nice to actually harvest plants and what not instead of farming mobs endlessly. If we are able to grow plants I'd like an actual garden to do it, along with a mog neighborhood instead of a simpe portal to my mog house. :P Still instanced of course. I want the same challenge but with a more natural progression.

Basically I want FFXI but modernized and the same features polished and extended. Please give me fishing and swimming. :o)

I don't want them to change too much, def don't want it to be quest oriented and stuff. I love FFXI and think it doesn't need to change much.. updated controls that are more accessible and a few more quests and maybe slightly more soloable but i would like it to still be party based. A few more instances would be nice especailly in a FFXI game that is more combat based... It would change things up a bit more... but that's about it.. I trust them.
