NVIDIA 295 GTX - no video output

yipsteryipster Member Posts: 21

Yesterday i decided to buy myself a new top of the line GFX card. I got my hands on a 295GTX for about 500€. i removed my old drivers for my 8800 GTS, swapped cards, booted and installed the new ones. After rebooting i've been playing games, no problem whatsoever...

Now: When i wanted to boot my system this very morning, my computer started out rather strange. Giving me one beep followed by two shorter ones and no video output. I had the green LED light up which indicates that it has power, but the bottom blue one has other ideas. It just won't go :) Apart from that the system boots itself. I can hear the windows tune through my speakers but no visual. When i swapped the 295GTX with my old 8800 GTS it worked just fine :s I've reset my BIOS settings, updated all my drivers to the latest version but it still won't budge...

Here are my specs:

Case: Thermaltake Kandalf LCS Black

PSU: BE QUIET! DARK POWER PRO 850W

CPU: INTEL CORE2 DUO E8600 3.33GHZ

Mobo: Gigabyte EP45-UD3

RAM: 2046MB RAM

GFX: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295

OS: Windows XP SP3

I'm no computer expert, so if any of you have a solution or an idea about how to fix this, please go through it step by step. Willing to learn a bit more here ;)

playing: Lord Of The Rings Online
played: Age Of Conan, Lineage 2, World of Warcraft, Guildwars, Last Chaos, Final Fantasy XI, EVE Online
waiting for: Star Wars The Old Republic and Final Fantasy XIV

You either have a bad card (happens often) and just return/RMA it, -or- you need to boot in Safe Mode with just basic drivers and see if it works. If not use the other card and uninstall all the video drivers, reboot.. then shut down and put the 295 GTX in and see if it boots/works.

If it doesn't, it is probably a bad card. Though, it could be a power issue, but you look like you have enough. Also, if the fan on the video card doesn't work, the card will shut itself down.

Well, if he isn't getting video signal at all (during POST before it even gets to loading windows) it can't be a driver issue. :)

But yea, 1 long 2 short is a video card error, try to reseat it first otherwise it sounds like it needs to be exchanged.

Yeah, i was wondering if it could be a driver issue cause i don't even get a screen of my bios starting. It's just that the card decided not to give a video signal overnight :( I wonder what could've happened, it was working like a charm last night...

and Phelcher, the fan of the card is spinning like my favorite CD so it's working ;)

    Great!

I don't think you should have any problems  :)

Though, most people do not "shit down" their machines. My computer hasn't turned off in 2 years, except for extended vacation and such.

Rescent nVidia's even the G200s have a higher fail rate.  So it wouldn't surprise me if you were experiencing heat or power issues from a botched FAB process.  When something like you mentioned happens, there are only 3 problems.  Heat, Power, or faulty circuitry.

nVidia has been good about replacing faulty software.  The store he went to go get it replaced probably will send it back to the manufacturer for a new one.
