Do you think it'll ever come? When? Would you play it? What would you want to see? I'm curious...

    I sure hope not.

I think Warcraft should be buried. I like the idea of a new story, new world and all. I play WoW but I would not like to see another one.

Won't happen. I think all of the gaming companies learned their lesson in releasing a direct Sequal to an MMORPG when it would compete with their first product from Sony and Everquest. If I was to make a prediction involving Blizzard's plans, I'd expect to see their next fantasy MMORPG to follow about 4 years from now, roughly, and it will be based on their Diablo line world.

That's assuming that their next MMORPG to be released isn't based on a fantasy setting.

It is being worked on atm,   They were looking at the release date around Nov 2011, but that was in Dec of last year.

They're working on a new MMO but it won't be WoW 2, it's based on something new, apparently.

Old news really, they have been mentioning that some of the staff from WoW have been transfered to the new MMO developement team for awhile now, (about a year?) with Blizzcon coming up that could be their time to announce it, or just go a year without announcing a new game since they started doing their own convention.

Evidently the new MMO is something entirely different to WoW. There hasn't been any info released about it yet but there's plenty of speculation. My money would go on a Starcraft MMO but some say it is an entirely new IP.

They are hoping to run both simultaneously which should be achievable IMO. By propping WoW up with yearly expansions it could run for years yet. Especially if they take the high level content back to Vanila WoW using phasing technology, that would be cool. and lets face it, there's no one out there to compete with Blizzard so at the moment they have it sewn up.

WoW2 would be a bad idea. Expectations would be too high. Blizzard are brighter than to do that.

I'm hoping the next MMO they release is something other than fantasy. I think WoW is a pretty good game but their take on the fantasy setting is pretty poor in comparison to EQ and Vanguard (in my opinion of course).

Although I never played the RTS, a Starcraft MMO would be pretty fun. But I'd love to see them produce a slightly darker and more mature MMO. Probably not going to happen, but a man can dream...

MMOs played (In order of how much I've liked them): Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Vanguard, City of Villains / Heroes, Guild Wars, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, Anarchy Online, Ryzom, Final Fantasy XI, Matrix Online, RF Online, Rappelz, Hero Online, Roma Victor

Probably not, Blizzard pretty mush killed the Warcaft lore with WoW

Diablo is really dark and mature. Starcraft could easily be real dark too. Heck, Warcraft has brighter colors but it's still relatively dark compared to things like Free Realms. :)

But then anything is dark compared to Free Realms :-D

I agree with Diablo though. I reckon that would make a great MMO :-)

I'm just going to quote the above again for anyone else who is reading this dead horse, sorry, topic.

They have already stated it's a whole new IP. Keep your eyes peeled on Blizzcon in August.

I doubt it would happen.  They have already announced publicly that the new MMO will be based on a non exising IP.  With how much work and polish they put into their games I wouldn't imagine another MMO from them for a while after, but who knows.

    np :)

i dont have a link for it but i do remember reading it on the offical forums when they announced there next mmo project was underway because i was praying for the same thing either diablo or starcraft

but what can they do now thats what we should be asking :P....i think they will defo be building there next mmo to point at a more mature/non casual player let wow tweens keep wow and move the adult players intrest to something new and more challenging..mabey like the first EQ...who knows..just my ideas :)

As others have said, it would be pointless for them to release a WoW2. From a purely business perspective, there is no point releasing a competitive mmo of the same genre when your current model is making such a profit... WoW is currently a cash cow, when it's popularity starts to decrease you have too choices 1. Release a New MMO of the same genre to bring back subs or 2. Relase additional content or upgrades. Option 2 is the most cost effective as they already have a platform to base there content on. Maybe they need to consider releasing a graphic upgrade as most people will agree that the graphics need improvement, although wrath graphics are much better than the old kingdoms.

On the subject of the new MMO, Bliz have stated it will be a new IP. We can speculate what it might be but I think we'll all have to wait until Blizcon for an official anouncemnt... I'd like to see a Gothic or Vampire/Werewolf MMO. But thats just me...

WoW2 could happen, but it would be very different from WoW - why would Blizz kill their money bag?

I see WoW2 being more of a MMORTS maybe, or more like GuildWars with very strong PvP and weaker PvE.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

If it was a MMORTS they would probably call it Warcraft 4, since WoW is based on Warcraft 3 wich was a strategy game...

Sequel is teh suck in the MMO world.  The problem is people the die hard fans that play the first one only want a better version of the first game.  The company typically improves the game in every aspect, but that's not what the hardcore player base wants. . . . or at least complaines about when the second one releases.

That being said if anyone can pull it off Blizzard can!

It depends on how they end WoW 1. To me it looks like we're heading for an inevitable showdown with Sargeras in the final expansion (probably expansion # 4 or 5). When that happens, they'll essentially have a clean-slate to write whatever lore they want.

My guess is WoW 1 will end with the defeat of Sargeras, the unification of the horde and alliance, the return of the titans to reorganize the worlds, and everything will be fine and dandy with peace everywhere. This leaves a perfect blank page for WoW 2. I could see the opening cinematic beginning with something like "thousands of years have past since the races of Azeroth came together to defeat the Great Evil...yet despite ages of peace, something dark has awoken in the woods of..."

This is my guess. Since Blizzard is coming out with a new, unrelated MMO, I don't see WoW 2 happening for another 15 or 20 years, and probably not after a few new regular RTS Warcraft games.

Before a wow2 we will see at least 2 new expansions, one featuring probably pirates, sea combat and then a "end story" expansion.

and a graphical revamp of current wow - and no this is not a guess. it is a card in blizzard's sleeve waiting to be droped when the times is right.

And we will also be seeing a new MMORPG that most- including me- suspect being based on a new IP (or maybe an IP currently not connected with Blizzard).

then we might see a wow 2 yes, based on the 2020's technology.
