There is one thing for certain with this game and that is for better or worse it will be different then previous FF titles. As some have mentioned Square makes every Final Fantasy different someway shape or form. So no this will not be FFXI reskinned and prettier (but I would be in love with it if it were).

Also has others have stated FFXI has always been a pretty damn successful game and it's sitting aorund 550k after several years. EQ1 was around that number at its PEAK and very few MMO's have managed to reach and maintain those numbers.

Anyhow others have explained it more thuroughly why your post is just flat out wrong. Now it's fine if you aren't hyped for it or think it will be garbage but that won't change other peoples mind to not look forward to it.

I for one am looking forward to it because it will still utilize the job system, and I would very much like to see what this incarnation of the job system will be like.

Maybe I just dont understand the hype and never will after a game company tries and fails.
500,000 is just enough players to keep it going and make a small profit on it, so if your definition of a game not succeding is managing to hold on then the Matrix MMO was a success in your mind, after all the held out for 4 years even though the game was utter crap.
Can i just say WTF!?? For one 500k makes a nice profit, and is a good success. Maxtrix Online last time i checked before SOE shut it down.. was sitting like at a 1k-3k player base. Hmmm 500k or 3k hmmmmmm.  And Maxtrix Online only survived for so long because... SOE kept it a float, and tried to keep it along as a added incentive to get the Station Pass.
Now for those of you still playing FF11 I would probably be more worried than excited, trust me if blizz made a WoW 2 for next year I would be disapointed in that it would mean Blizz thinks they could redo the entire game and be better if they had a fresh start with what they know now.
But thats the thing... FFXI players don't have to worry. Theres gonna be ones that are gonna jump ship to FFXIV, and ones that will play both. SquareEnix has no plan's to give up on FFXI at all.. and will continue to develop future content for it.
On top of this for those that arnt currently playing FF11 and are excited I would question why again? because you saw a 3min blip of a scene with most of it being CGI and the rest unditermined amount of game play cut up so that you cant tell the difference? If this had been a 6 min CGI trailer I could see the anticipation because then we would of known a bit more about the game, if it had been a 6min pure demo of the game I could see it also being equally as interesting.
Man... can you be more of a troll??? ALOT of people loved FFXI, and are very excited for FFXIV.
If this had a whole new game with new races (not nessicarily what I said for races, just different.), new classes, and new take on the FF francise for an MMO I could see being excited, but with as little info on it and the blurb of a trailer your all exicted about something that looks exactly the same with a better graphics boost?
Oh listen to you making big fricken asumpstion's with little to no info...... bit of a hypocrite eh!? Yea the races look the same, but doesn't mean it's going to be the same game all over again.

I just don't get it at all. Why are you even here... you give real troll's a bad name.

FFXI was my first MMO.  I played it before it launched in N. America.  I had a lot of fun... and isn't that the point of 'games'?

If I look at FFXI, it still has quite a few features that several (even the most popular MMO's) DON'T HAVE!

Ability to create multi-class characters... where is this in WoW, LotRO, or WAR?

Personal housing... I know WoW and WAR don't have this and can't recall if LotRO ever put this in?

Just 2 of the things that I enjoyed from FFXI that I wish some of the more popular or 'successful' MMO's had.

The problem here is that the OP has no idea what he's talking. Everything he has said is based on complete fantasy made up in his head. So much so that it almost seems like he's been put up to it.

But most of his opinions are so stupid I can't imagine that anyone with a brain would put him up to it.

Honestly, 500k Subscribers and thats NOT succesful?! What are you? The Monopoly guy?

FFXI was my first MMO. It was the only MMO I've ever played where I've really gotten into my character. Being a Dragoon was the coolest thing I've ever done in any game. I loved the combat with groups. It was exciting to get a perma group to exp with several nights a week. Especially on the good nights.

I just don't have the time to commit to that anymore. Wish I did. I'd love to take up my lance with Gizmo at my side again.

Hopefully with 14... I can do that again.

How hard is it for you to understand? We are not trying to explain Quantum Physics here, we are excited about a game that in our opinion was fun! If it wasnt fun for you and you do not like it then move along. If you are so firm in your stance to argue every single comment on this board, its not because you dont understand. It is because you either have a learning disorder or you simply will not aknowledge the fact that we liked the game. I think its the latter.

We can only tell you why we liked this game and you are going to have to take it for what it is. The story in this game was fantastic. The quests in the game were awesome! Fighting the quest boss's were fun. Leveling was a grind but if you did it right it didnt feel that way. The BCNM's were fun cause you had to gather some of your friends or even cooler some unsuspecting person (which you ended up making friends with). The battles at Aht Urghan to defend the palace. The level cap fights that you had to do to get to the next 10 levels after 50. The crafting in game was fun. Or if you didnt want to do any of those things then, you simply hung out with your friends and do something dumb... Like climb the mountain. Or go NM hunting  or go fishing. You see this game was about community and tactical game play. If you cant understand that then you are going to find that the reason why you dont understand..... is your own ignorance!

Once more... FFXI has not failed, by any definition but your own; and you speak for no one but yourself. Like Cynthe said, make the distinction when you speak, please.
500,000 is just enough players to keep it going and make a small profit on it, so if your definition of a game not succeding is managing to hold on then the Matrix MMO was a success in your mind, after all the held out for 4 years even though the game was utter crap.

Oh please. 500,000 is *far* from "making a small profit". 500,000 is a very healthy subscriber base. FFXI has been a cash-cow for SE for years. You don't continue to add new content via updates,  produce and release 4 full retail expansions with entire storylines, new creatures, new areas, new game systems, add 5 new jobs, assemble an entire team dedicating time and money to fighting RMT for a MMO that's "failing" and not making money. Use some damn common sense, will you?

Your Matrix Online example is such a poor attempt at a rebuttal it's almost sad. Matrix Online has been on life support, with a skeleton crew and hardly any active development for years now. This is common knowledge and you won't find anyone claiming it to be a success. Why SOE kept it alive as long as they did, no one knows. Also your rebuttal puts a very disingenuous spin on the situation... Staying around for 7 years itself is one thing... Staying around for 7 years with a full development team and maintaining the 5th largest player-base, despite it being a niche game, and despite all the flashy new MMOs coming out to compete with it, is something else entirely. Ask the developers of those MMOs with smaller populations if they think 500k players is a "failure", or if being the 5th most popular MMO is "no big deal"..  I'm pretty sure you'll get a very different response than you'd expect.

You mentioned WoW in a previous post as an example of what a success should be... WoW is an anomaly in the MMORPG genre, not the norm, not the "standard".  There are many people who don't seem to understand that, and you seem to be one of them.

The only failure here is your petty attempts at bashing a successful MMO, then putting forth all this meaningless conjecture about a newly announced one.
Now for those of you still playing FF11 I would probably be more worried than excited, trust me if blizz made a WoW 2 for next year I would be disapointed in that it would mean Blizz thinks they could redo the entire game and be better if they had a fresh start with what they know now.

How about you think for yourself and stop telling us what we should think? Can you manage that?

You don't know squat about what SE's going to do with FFXIV, so - unless determined to continue making yourself look ridiculous - just let it go already.

It's already been stated by SE themselves and explained by people here that SE are not trying to recreate FFXI. They will be taking things they've *learned* from FFXI and applying it to FFXIV... but they are not trying to create FFXI-2. FFXIV will be a new world, new storyline, new setting... new combat system, etc. etc. You just make yourself look more and more willfully ignorant with every post you make.
Why do you care? Why are you so dead-set on trying to turn people off to FFXIV, and in so dishonest and misinformed a manner? Did SE collectively come and beat up your sister or something? What is your problem?

Again, how about you let people think for themselves and stop trying to tell them what they should think.
If this had a whole new game with new races (not nessicarily what I said for races, just different.), new classes, and new take on the FF francise for an MMO I could see being excited, but with as little info on it and the blurb of a trailer your all exicted about something that looks exactly the same with a better graphics boost?

Well, if you would stop being so belligerantly closed-minded and willfully misinformed, and actually bother to look up the information that has been provided by SE so far, you would see why your assessment is completely incorrect.

Don't worry.. I'm not holding my breath.

I couldnt agree more with the above post.

If people are excited about a game with as little information out there as FFXIV has right now ... it should tell you something.

For me personaly, if SE makes FFXIV half as much fun as FFXI was to play then they have my subscription. People talk about grinding and killing the same mob for hours and complain about it when the truth is that the grind in FFXI was so much better and more fun then any other game out there. What other game have you played where grinding and killing something for the sole purpose of leveling was fun? Most games take the solo aproach to leveling whereas FFXI made u party with friends or even complete strangers, it made you create bonds with people that no other MMO even attempts. True sometimes it was hard to get a group together, and I think that is something they have to work on getting fixed but when it comes to the actual leveling AFTER u have gotten a group together... I myself have no complaints.

Now for those of you still playing FF11 I would probably be more worried than excited, trust me if blizz made a WoW 2 for next year I would be disapointed in that it would mean Blizz thinks they could redo the entire game and be better if they had a fresh start with what they know now.

Hmm first fo all why would Blizzard not think they could redo WoW and do a much better job at it after all the experience they have gotten from it? And secondly how the hell do u know they are not currently working on it? We already know Blizzard is working on another MMO as we speak. The sole fact that they are working on it tells you one thing... games get old and so will WoW. They are concerned with loosing customers to other new better MMOs so they are working on their own version.

Don't get me wrong: thiis statement is true and I full am behind it. I know it is going to happen, but just as I was reading it now I was kinda blown away by it. It is like when you are faced with mortality irl. You know it is coming, but when it does you get taken back by it.

Just that thought of those millions of players that are so hoplessly addicted to WoW. If they would announce WoW was shutting down or that WoW 2 was happening I think the majority of the player base would be so dependant on the game that they wouldn't know what to do with themselves.

I mean I have hung out with WoW players and they step outside and they stand there for a second not knowing what to do. They arn't going to buy a new WoW expansion and they are not hungry and they just seem at a loss. When asked so "whatcha wanna do?" the response rate rivals some countries land-speed records with a: "lets go play WoW." Can you just imagine what life is going to be like with no WoW ... what would people do.

Same old game with new graphics eh?  I liked when they said the game will have more of a sci-fi slant on it like FFVII and FFXIII.  I'm all for that.  Getting tired of the fantasy/ fantasy mmos.  Needs more sci-fi/ fantasy.

I hope it has very little SCI FI, if I wanted to play SCI FI I would Play EvE online.

I hope the sci fi they refere to is in the form of gun shooting flying towers :)

Nah, I don't think it'll be Star Trek-type sci-fi.  Just enough that it doesn't look too medieval.   Like how FFVII and FFXIII is (can probably put FFVIII in there too).  This time you can have actual robots instead of cardians.

Yeah, the sci-fi meets fantasy towers.  With the magic and technology intertwined.

Well if that stilt city from the Rapture vid is in FFXIV, then that should be an indication of how it could look.  It has a new look, but still looks fantastical at the same time.

They will tweak the game a bit, better graphics, maybe increase some solo ability but its gonna be the same, game companies don't change over night, (well not without a massive merger or restructuring of the company from the ground up.)
Which is why I don't understand all the hype for this game, they might as well have stated they were going to make FFXI-part 2 and it would of said the same thing, only now they get to make up a completely different story for a world that doesn't make sense. On top of this the races look the same, which is argueably one of Sq-Enix biggest flaws with FFXI, No playable Moogles, No wolf men from FFV, No ancients/Centra, (or what ever their name was from FFXIII.)
Let players play their favorite races from past FFs, thats the reason so many people hated SW:G, no one could be a Jedi, then every one was a Jedi and it was just lame because all the other classes sucked. Imagine a FF MMO where you could be a Red XIII race or a Black mage race (similar to Vivi from FFIX.)

Final Fantasy games had always had so many races in each game that its silly to have such a limited race selection that are from non of the previous games.

I hope your right!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FFXI is far from a failure tho, I dont know what you base it off of( I bet I could guess it on the first try), however SE has said FFXI has been extremely profitable for them.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)

Hmm, how do you know it will be like the former mmo ffxI? No information that could really tell us that much.. and i guess you have seen as much as everybody else.. Il tested the ffxi and i liked it in some ways.. they wanted uss to play with the old world style and we got what we was looking for.. Well the lack of speed killed it.. But WHY do you blame them for trying do another mmo... there is just 1 company who had really succed in that type of genre and that was the right game at the right time.. And i think you know what im thinking about.. But that was 80% luck that so many people did not yet had tryed 1 single mmo so far.. So i think people who like quite slow mmo with console style and a new fresh ff world with some speed in it will totaly dig this upcoming mmo! and btw.. its under construcion so you cannot really say anything that states that you kind of know any of the small things u just said.. like play with moogle.. how do you know?

[They didn't update the combat system till FF12]

This shows how little you played FF games, or in that part enjoyed it.... There was no reason whatsoever to even change the combat system, people that played the games all bought it.. because they liked how it worked along with good stories along with it.  I played most Final Fantasy starting from 4 and i must say that even the fighting system was almost the same with just minor tweaks here and there, i enjoyed every game of it, merely because THAT playstyle was and is one of the reasons i enjoyed playing the FF games...

Final fantasy 11 was a nice game when it started, it also ended up to be the MMO with a lot of worked out classes. (15)

The biggest reason FF11 didnt hit the records more then it has (which in this case it did really well) is that the payment methods where limited.. if i remember right (dont flame if im wrong) is that you can only pay trough creditcard .. (or at least when i played it a few years ago ^_^ )

Not every1 has these, if they would add a gamecard and paypal they will easily take a bigger croud then they have.. if you check the normal final fantasy games they always had games with beautifull graphic design, the fact that FF11 got behind with the some older graphic engine isnt something they could have guessed when all the sudden WoW got released with a diffrent graphic set..

if they make some changes in FF14 like more payment methods, newer graphic engine, and a few tricks here and there... this game will be a game that will hit millions within the first few months.
