Honestly, for DDO, this might not be such a bad idea.
Not really a fan of item shop F2P games, they always end up being more expensive the sub games, for way less fun.
But for DDO I really think this could work.
Always liked the game, have a lvl 16 Bard i think somewere, but it was a bit shallow on the content end.
Lets wait and see what this really entails for items and access with and whithout paying.

I'll have to rez my cleric and play again. I truly enjoy DDO but I didn't enjoy it enough to justify the monthly sub. So perhaps I'll give it a whirl again now.
Free to play in the starter city - Yes. Free to play in all it's online world - No. Will I bother to download it when it has become "free" - No.
Not true. You earn Turbine Points by running quests, even the free ones. You can then buy all the content in the game with those points. It would take a while to buy all the content with earned points, but it can be done.
I'll probably return to my level 10 intimitank and buy all the content from that point on. The quest content in this game really is head and shoulders above anything else out there.
...US only... = haha? Even after making it free this game is still a spectacular, epic fail.
What does that mean, that it will be free for people in the US to play but people in the UK will have to pay a monthly sub?
If it is the case i recommend that all EU players cancel their subs, as we all know we get cheated on the cost of subs anyway on almost all games but this would actually be taking the biscuit!!!!

EU will indeed be VIP access only. Personally I am okay with that in the short term. The real shame is it currently looks like we will have to still wait for the beta to end before we get the next module.

I was so close of trying it...
Do they check the IP or what?
not from what I've been able to tell. I've played with quite a few Europeans on the US servers and have had a few in the same guild.
Who cares DDO sucks, there just getting used to not having it so they can prepare for the NWN mmorpg. Heres hoping there second effort isn't a failure as well.

another instanced piece of doodoo
World of Warcraft is a proof that MMORPG quality should affect schedule/budget and not the other way around.

Makes me angry that DDO is f2p but AC isn't yet.

I normally poo-poo F2P games...but really, this model seems kinda cool. It is like a regular P2P game with a really extensive trial version.
