Release has been pushed back

"We strongly feel that we want these features to have reached a “polished and proper” state before starting the monthly subscriptions, but as always when it comes to game development it’s hard to estimate how long this will actually take. That said we are aiming to reach this state (and start the monthly subscriptions) in Q4 2009, when all the core features above should be in place and thoroughly tested."

Also Matts mentioned that preorders will be shipped September 1st. So granted a hardcopy will be given then, but the actually monthly subscriptions will be roughly Q4 if they make their goal.

Please understand this is not intended to start any flames I'm merely trying to inform any casual followers.

Release hasn't been pushed back, simply because they haven't given any date that can be pushed back.

Pushed back? From what date? I heard that the end of June they will open up the shop for preorders and those people will get access to the beta. Then the server will officially go live on September 1st. And that seems to be still valid so I dont understand what has been pushed back.

In all honesty it probably has been pushed back.  Why else would they be asking for players to purchase their unfinished product ?

My guess is SV didn't make their deadlines or they weren't cooperating with their investors.   If you think about it investors would gladly front more cash if everything was running smooth, on schedule, and the devs just needed a bit more to finish off the product.

I guess they could of seen what AV did and said, " Hey,  what a great idea! "

I'm sure the investors behind AoC and WAR thought things were going well too... not to mention Tabula Rasa.....

Yeah, I posted the entire article .. it's called State of the Game... couldn't you have quote this in that post?  It's a hot thread, so people are still reading it.

Actually I think the investors for AoC and WAR were a lot of the reason why the games were released in such unfinished states.

When companies are under major pressure to release something on a deadline, they are often forced to release things in very unfinished states. Unfortunately those who provide the investments very rarely know ANYTHING about game design and thus have no idea whether or not a product is ready to go live.

This wouldn't be such a problem if these same companies didn't over-hype their games and lie about the features that are ready.

Star Vault's approach is at least much more honest than other companies have been recently. They are admitting right from the beginning that the game is not complete and are allowing people to get in on the beta test by paying the pre-order costs. This indicates to me that they are not caving to pressure from investors and are letting us gamers invest instead...

    Didn't they say summer 2009?

    Starvaults investor is the stockmarket.

And yes, this is a pushback. They originally intended to release during the summer, but (probably) due to how popular the game became, they decided to push it back further so they could polish it more.

    and this seems to be the final word on release for now;

"We are not planning a release in September. We are planning to release the game in Q4. That's Oct-Nov-Dec."

I think that is very good. I much rather wait a little longer for them to release a better running game opposed to them releasing an unfinished game that people will call a fail because the designers didnt have quite enough time to buff it up. Although, within the time constraints, pushing it back just a  month or so may not be enough 'polishing' time, in my opinion. abut i do not know the condition of the game currently, having not recieved an invitation to the closed beta =(. So, it may be ample time.

Hey, here is an idea. PLAYER VIDEOS OF BETA, since the devolopers arent doing it, those in the closed beta, throw me a leak or something.

Tried: EvE, DnD Online, LotRO, WAR, AoC,
Played: UO, SWG(pre-cu), GuildWars, FFXI, WoW

This timeline seems  more plausible than eariler reports of "summer 09" and Sept 09.

They just aren't far enough along in the testing cycle for it to come out in either one of those time frames.

Even Q4 is agressive and i wouldn't be surprised if the date got shoved again. (assuuming their financing can hold out)

yeah i wouldnt be surprised either. Although tbh i can care less if MMO's have all the bells and whistles that they promised. As long as they include all the core features and add the rest later, i'm satisfied. I'm surprised i'm so interested in this game atm. I'm not a fan of a FPS medieval/fantasy type games, but this looks to be done much better then darkfall, And i'm getting a bit tired of EVE.

EDIT: wow i sure said the word "i'm" alot in that post xD

I guess one of the good things about the full price p2p beta is that if SV find out that their servers are running well, then they can always offer more preorders.    They had mentioned that if it seemed like lots of ppl wanted preorders they may open another beta server.   It would be interesting to see them testing multiple builds if they did open different servers.
