SWTOR looks a heck of a lot like a cooperative single-player RPG.

THAT is imvpo the core issue. Can story hold people so long? Can a game aimed to be grindless really exist?

Good news: there's plenty of Korean grinders to fall back on if it isn't.

Honestly, some of you sound more like EA shareholders than gamers. Let's assume the worst; that The Old Republic's story-oriented gameplay will only capture your attention for 2-3 months at most. So what? Who's holding a gun to your head to keep paying a subscription fee (assuming there is one) after that?

What concerns me is that Gordon Walton, Rich Vogle, Dallas Dickinson and Tom Nicholls all came out of E3 punching the message: 'Once your character has finished TOR, you can reroll as another character and play it again'.

Hell, even WOW doesn't tell its endgamers to reroll and do over.

True. It's not an MMORPG; it's a SRPG Online.

    Because?

All your accusations of it being like Guild Wars have been turned down by the Dev's. So by now it's more a point of saying "The Dev's are lying."

They've said repeatedly that the classic MMO components will be there. They also pointed out that Instancing will be nowhere like AoC or GuildWars. And yet you continue to say so. So do you believe the Dev's are lying?

Just asking this because then there's really no point in arguing anything since it will only be proven when the game launches. Come to think of it, that's probably going to be the case anyway. ^^

Quit twisting words, they are just saying how you could play a different character and have it be an entirely different feel to the game.  They have confirmed PvP and raids, how many times must this be said???

The Old Republic will be different and different in a good way.

    Agreed.

I'm bemused why everyone is so concerned that you can solo in this game when thats exactly what you do in nearly every other MMO out there. It almost seems that with Bioware releasing so little info people are inventing problems.

The crazy thing is that there are alot of people who complain about being forced to group. In The Old Republic you can group or you can solo or you can do both. You just can't please everyone, that is what it comes down to really.

Becauuse what the devs have been saying is contradictory - often in the same interview. And further contradictions seem to be revealed by independent journalists and playtesters. Like this one:

    http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/hands-on-star-wars-the-old-republic/

"After both watching the game in action at a LucasArts demo and getting our hands on it shortly thereafter, we were left with a bizarre feeling that what we had just seen was not in fact an MMO, but rather, another offline installment in the KOTOR franchise."

And if you would have read the rest of the interview you would see the tester was referring to the "feeling" of immersion in the game, not the type of game it was.  Your "facts" are about as "factual" as FOX "news."

What about the Dev's statements is contradictory? Except of course, for things where we can't know -how- things are implemented?

As for journalists. Yeah...they saw one flashpoint and now their opinion of this is the truth for the whole of the game? I dunno. They might be right. They might be wrong. Just like you.

Yes, and you too. But the difference between us two is that I'm not the one brainlessly pimping a game that hasn't been released yet. I'm speculating and hypothesising on statements, necessarily incomplete, from people with a product to sell. You seem to think it's the gospel and you're the first happy-clappy missionary down from the mount. Grow up.

No, you are not hypothesising... you are damning and condemning without sufficient evidence.

    1) I'm actually not brainlessly pimping a game. If you saw me ever pointing out SWTOR -WILL- be the next greatest, bestest, whatever MMO, then you may have a point, but I didn't, so zero points for you there.

    2) You're not speculating, you're bashing. You are the one who is mindlessly bashing the game without solid proof to your theroies, when in fact, most of your theories are in blatant diagreement with the released statements by Developers. Heck, you still cling to your theory it will be like GuildWars, when Dev's have specifically said that it will NOT be like that. So who here is the one doing things based on nothing?

I'm jumping in when I see people making claims they can't possibly have a clue about. Like you. Because no, you do not speculate, you do not theorize, you -claim- to know how things will be.

You have no more clue than I do how the game will turn out. And where I remain optimistic that I might actually enjoy the game, you are intent on trying to prove that the game will be exactly as you theorize it to be.

I have no clue if this game will be good. Some things they have said have me uneasy. Some of their PR actions have been downright crap. Do I simply cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war on them for that? No.

I'll wait. And in the meantime, I'll point out when someone puts out new theories as fact, especially when they are in disagreement with what is published in interviews and FAQ's.

Thank you very much.  This is exactly how any reasonable person would act in a debate.  Ignore hubert... if you check his history of posts its just a long list of trolling.
