"After the sale, Brad decided to take an extended break from games development and is currently pursuing his hobbies and spending time with friends and family. That said, as of late, he’s starting to get that itch again..."

I thought some may actually be interested seeing this.

I think he and Richard Garriot should get together and found a new company :)

I sincerely hope his itch is only temporary.

I hope Brad McQuaid gets another chance. Vanguard shows that he still has some great ideas; just don't let him manage another company.

Yes Brad McQuaid, David Bowman and Ken Troop are starting a new MMO company called Venture Quest Inc; Venture Quest Inc basically procures millions in start up money and never really prduces anything workable...the final product has a working title of Shitinabox Online.

I can't say that i would be happy to see him return to the genre, but I'm sure it will make some of the hardcore gamers happy.  Personally, I think the genre is stagnant in regards to MMO paradigms and I think the last thing we need are the people responsible for them coming back and rehashing the same old crap with a different facade.

We need new people, with new ideas, in the industry and they really need to shake things up for the better.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

I would love to see Brad Mcquaid get back into mmorpg development.  He has good ideas and I believe he can make a good game.  Almost everyone agrees that the early days of EQ were the best, which was the time when he was around.  Vanguard while plagued with technical issues in the beginning had alot of great ideas.  It is a pretty good game.

Interesting, does it say if he's kicked his hydrocodone addiction yet?

Vanguard, and EQ for that matter show he has a great ablity to take other peoples ideas (from MUD's etc) and pass them off as some great vision of his own.

Well sure when one has as much money as he got on the buyout deal of Vanguard, and a Lucrative consulting contract with SOE, you'll always have friends even if you decide to screw your former employees (ie sigil) and go on vacation while they are left in the parking lot getting their pink slips.

I think Vanguard could have been bigger than it was...could have have a better "birth" if it had of stayed with M$ or $OE hadn't generated it's reputation by its actions with SWG. I think alot of potential customers got completely turned off to it when the sony partnership was announced. People just didn't want to play a game without the reasonable expectation that it wouldn't be completely changed from it's initial state...another NGE.

Well as long you and others like you are willing to invest heavily in his next company / MMO I'm sure he'll be happy to do his part. So how much of your hard earn money do you believe in Brad?

How much? Well lets see... probably about $39.99-$49.99 + $14.99 a month. Pretty much the standard price you would pay for any mmorpg :)  Bottom line is, if the game that he makes is good I will play it.  But I always look before I leap and I won't play anything unless I believe it is good.
