So these 4 alliances destroy my alliance and we basically disband and leave to Yssam with 2 major allies and a couple smaller clans with us. The game is now 10 times more exciting because we were not a 1500 people + zerg and now much smaller. I've been exposed to secrets previously unknown ever since I moved off the mainland to the island that answered questions that I have had since I first started. I've been stuck in alfar lands almost my entire darkfall life occasionally having quick glimpses of other lands in pvp raids.

What do you want us to discuss >_>
hmm secrets, if you told us would they still be secrets? Naww, dont tell me, I do not even wana know.
Yes the game is fun. Although many people who come from WoW-like games are scared to die in game and therefore rarely leave the starter cities, this way missing out on 90% of the game....and then whine thats its boring because they expect stuff to just happen right in front of them without them doing anything. People should really exercise their imagination more and go out there and do/see stuff, dont wait for it to be brought t on a plate to you, DF is not like that.
Funny how your logic works, people that come from WoW-like games, where death is not punishable at all, are afraid to die. Its not where they came FROM, its where they came TO that makes them afraid to die.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor - pre-WW2 genocide.
It's becoming a new game for me also, mainly because I'm seeing less and less people playing it nightly.
Less players = less fun.......
Sure they leave the starter cities. They join clans then hang out it the clan cities.
The problem isn't the WOW like players being afraid to die. It is the So called "Hardcore" players afraid to lose their gear. It seems everyone just stays in their cities skilling up on each other than running around in the world. I can understand this though. I would probably hang out in the city then roam around an empty world also. At least in the city I can see others. Besides everyone is missing 90% of the game. Aventurine has not implemented that yet.
If the game was so good.. and now it's 10 times better... the game is AWSOMO now!
Well done, you've basically realized that pot spamming and macroing is how the clans got to the top in beta and will continue to stay at the top as long as they can be bothered to stay subscribed.
I swear, I don't get why people clamoured over something like Ultima Online, I know Darkfall is a poor example of its game mechanics but frankly if this is what combat was reasonably like I'd rather stick to something like Pre-CU SWG where you were rewarded for interacting with players instead of just killing everything constantly.
p.s. Combat mechanics in SWG were more complex too
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
The problems is not darkfall the problem is people who for some uneducated reason expected the second coming of Jesus.
Ultima Online was one and only because it was original, for something to be as successful as UO it has to be a completely new game rather than its copy, copies dont work as WoW clone games have proven. The quicker people realise that a "perfect MMO" only exists in their heads the quicker they will enjoy current games.
Anyway, Darkfall will live and prosper for years to come. As an example, WW2 Online was released by small dev team in alfa state and people gave it one month to live, it has been going for more than 7 years now. Dont assume that because YOU dont like the game that nobody will.
Once DF gets rid of short attention span kids, who typicaly play MMO's for 2-3 months before moving on and whine A LOT, community will start to get better.
Problem is the AV website promotes this games as the second coming of Jesus. Bugged, incomplete, missing features abound. Even fans have posted on the forums suggesting the amendments to make. Such posts are deleted. This is all because of one major mardy ass QQ'ing lead developer who feels the need to defend (read cover up) the truth about DF.
It isn't AV "indie" or small nature thats the problem. There plenty of good developers out there like that. Its just AV suck ass a company. Caught up in there own pathetic hype and so distant from the games reality. Tasos needs to *GO* but since hew is AV that means the end of DF. Hence why this game is never going anywhere. It will not evolve as EVE does. Its not some last forever sandbox its just a hashed rushed release which promises a lot to the desperate few who hate theme park MMOs.
what the hell are you talking about?
every post you make, you're all like "oh wow players come here and don't get it" wtf over??
wow has TEN MILLION+ players, and darkfall has sold what... maybe 20,000 copies, if that???? wow players are NOT streaming over to darkfall... if they were, there would be a constant queue to get into the game AND the online store would STILL only be open for a few minutes a day... wow players are NOT coming to darkfall to play... there is nothing at all to support this wild-assed assertion... provide proof, or stop with this lie.
every aspect of darkfall is done HORRIBLY. for an fps game - it's crap. for an mmo - it's crap. for an mmo with fps combat - it's crap.
the ONLY semi - unique thing in this game is "mounted combat"... and if other games did NOT have ooo siege weapons where multiple players can get on the vehicle and attack... then mounted combat would be unique... but, other games already have this type of thing. other games have conquerable territories, with cities/stations/whatever you build to hold/control your territory.
and lord knows, we have plenty of just horrible done games out already, so darkfall isn't unique there either.
people quit darkfall, because 90% of the UNIQUE FEATURES... advertised for the past DECADE (damn near ten bloody YEARS).... have been CUT FROM THE GAME. all the hype surrounding darkfall DID involve these dozens of cut features.
so get off this "wow players come and play and quit" because that bullshit is not happening! hardcore players, pvpers, hardcore pvpers -- are all coming and trying darkfall, and QUITTING BECAUSE THE GAME IS NOT WHAT WAS ADVERTISED ALL THESE YEARS AND HAS TOO MANY GAME BREAKING PROBLEMS TO BE WORTH PLAYING.
damn. and stop posting about wow until you've played it and can speak educatedly on what it does/doesn't offer.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
well time will tell, we dont really know yet. Having said that, I dont remember EVE or my example, WW2ONline, being that popular in first 1-2 years. They aquired a steady player base after that period. Anyway my point is its only been out for 3 months, all MMO are unfinished on release, I dont like it, you dont like it but its the way it always is. What Developers do in the next year or so that will show if Df has future beyond 1.5 years.
um, truth be told, copies DO work. wow was an eq ripoff, with warhammer toons/background, and that copied everything they saw in other games, which blizzard thought was good, and a few bad items (they still do this).
meridian was before uo... was uo completely different than meridian?
those whiners in df are the only reason df is getting better. the moronic fanbois are telling the devs that everything is great. if everything is great - why in god's name would you change ANYTHING?
viral posting doesn't fly anymore. gone are the days of posting "blah blah blah" and people just bandwagoning for the sake of it. all the people who flocked to df because of the fanboi attitudes - HAVE QUIT DF BECAUSE IT WASN'T WHAT THE FANBOIS HYPED IT TO BE....
short attention span? have you ever even attempted to get a faction rep to exalted in wow? much less a dozen + of them? have you ever attempted to buy the high end flying mounts in wow? have you ever gotten to level 80 in wow, only to realize that you now had, LITERAL, months of ingame playtime before you were at the true "end game" and that end game would only be the highest for another 3 months (at most)?
the short attention span group sure as hell doesn't come from wow.

i played eve at it's release, for a few months. i do not remember the company advertising dozens of GREAT sounding features, only to cut the features and not update their website to accurately reflect features in game... only to have people go TO the eve website... read about the game's features... buy the game... then go WTF OVER, cuz the game was NOTHING like what the official eve website advertised.
that's called bait & switch, it's called false advertising, and it's ILLEGAL in the United States.
and it's what darkfall did, and continues to do.
don't give a bloody damn about their forums - neither would a court -- the official website, owned and operated by the folks making darkfall - is false advertisement. i'm surprised someone hasn't filed a lawsuit just on principle.
don't compare this game, it's launch, or anything about it to eve. they have never been and shall never be ANYTHING alike.

I just love when people make 180-degree arguments like this.
A little review of the history of DF...
1. For months, Tasos hyped up DF, talking about all the ways it would be revolutionary - in terms of PvP, PvE... you name it. He talked of how the game was feature complete and more ready for launch than any MMO he'd played at that time.
2. The DF website has cited, and gone into great detail about various revolutionary systems the game would implement... Revolutionary AI. A revolutionary trade system. The ability to send SMS messages to people on their cell phones...And on and on... Many of those things are stil lthere.
3. The rabid fans insisted throughout the game's development that the game would be revolutionary, that it would change people's expectations of what a MMO should be, etc. etc.
4. The rabid fans inundated other games' forums, for *years* prior to DF's "launch", telling everyone how it would destroy their games, how their games sucked and how they were carebears if they didn't play it, etc. etc.
5. I read many posts by rabid fans insisting that because AV was a small company and didn't have a major publisher, it would allow them to pull off a game as "cutting edge" as DF because they didn't have people in suits dictating what they could or couldn't do.
And here we are... The game is nowhere near what Tasos has hyped time and again, it's missing a large number of those revolutionary features the site listed...and many are still listed there... The game isn't the "second coming" that Tasos, the website and, yes, many rabid fans insisted it would be.
So do the rabid fans admit they were wrong or perhaps bought into the hype a bit too much?
Nope... They do their typical 180-degree routine and now say the problem is people having unreasonable expectations... who expected "the second coming of Jesus."
You people are seriously too much... forever trying to take all sides of the same issue; arguing which ever side happens to suit you at that moment, but always ready to change your point-of-view as necessary, often contradicting yourselves in the process.
It was the same with the whole hype thing... Prior to DF's "launch", there were people here gloating at how DF was the most hyped MMO on mmorpg.com, how that was proof it was going to be a huge success. Then the game comes out, it's not *nearly* the success they thought it would be and, in fact, issues abounded... the game didn't live up to the hype.
Did the rabid fans admit they were wrong? Nope... they blamed all the hype as being the reason the game was being received negatively. Once again... doing the 180-degree spin step.
It was the same with whether or not the game would meet the first launch date. Rabid fans insisted it would be ready, that it would have been thoroughly tested because Tasos said they had AI bots that could test as well as a human player and that they would never give a release date they couldn't meet. Others said "Won't happen... or it will and the game will be a wreck.. they haven't had a proper stress test, the game has not been properly tested for issues...". Of course, those people were called "trolls and haters" for daring to question the Word of Tasos.
Yet... lo and behold, not long before the promised launch date that "AV would never miss, because they said so", Tasos announces a delay, that the game needed to be properly stress-tested, etc. etc.
Did the rabid fans say "okay.. I guess we were wrong and bought into Tasos' hype yet again... our bad." Nope... they do the 180-degree spin step yet *again*, by now claiming that the "trolls and haters" (the same people who said it wouldn't be ready), *wanted* it to launch so it would fail.
The examples go on and on and on...
Some of you people seriously need to take off the Tasos-colored glasses, stop spinning, look at the situation for what it *is*, and stop twisting reality around to make it what you want it to be. Stop trying to put the blame for all AV's and DF's problems on everyone else.
and the cash shop selling asphalt..." - Mimzel on F2P/Cash Shops
the thing is me and other people see things from different prespective that came from experience of playign most of all these MMOs. The truth is that all those examples can be applied to any new MMO, because face it they all come out like crap. Even the almighty WoW and EVE were crap at release.
My point is people complain because they had too high expectations. You say that DF devs lied, myabe they did, but why did you belive everythign they said and I did not? Because ive seen and heard all of this before, you get wiser and wiser the more you get burned by other MMOs....oh and important to understand there is NO SUCH thing as perfect MMO and you will never play one either, so keep chasing.
Don't you think the expectations might be so high because God TAsos said the game was feature ready, that the AI was so intense that you could'nt tell it from real players, that the skill system was indepth and immersive, that everything on the old peice of crap webpage was in game and ready?
Ya think? Do ya? For Gods sake, lady - until a few weeks ago keeps didn't even have fucking doors. DOORS!!

don't act like we are all naive gaming beginners who expect a new mmo to be polished and bugfree, also : were you following the game all the years since it was announced like many who post here?
you come here and act like as if everything that happened and happens in df can be compared to other games when it can not. i have also played swg, aoc and war and i have played a few games at launch, what av did is kind of criminal in my view, it has been discussed why on these boards a dozen times and it just cannot be compared to other games in terms of development, price, customer support, lacking content/features and bugs / exploits / hacks. it's the first time in my time of online gaming where i keep posting on a board of a game after i have quit. why?
partly for entertainement because of some of the fans here, i admit, but mostly because i am kind of angry because of av's behaviour and i feel the need to talk about it.

i didn't really enjoy eve at release. wow was anything BUT crap at release.
um, devs, fanbois, everyone hyping darkfall set the expectations far too high... the expectations that SHOULD have been set are: hey, we're releasing this game in a very early beta stage... we've cut everything from the game that made it unique... it's got fps combat, but it's super-crappy compared to an fps game... everything in the game is a mindless grind, unless you hurry and take advantage of the early beta exploits (because we won't be rolling back skills/gold/etc obtained by exploits)... and THEN, people might not be disappointed.
so um... no one is saying they think, or wish, darkfall was a perfect mmo. it's completely not advertised, and again, if you people are going to make comments about games (i.e. your comment above about eve and wow), then you NEED to have played them. you obviously did not play wow at release if you think it was a piece of crap.
we darkfall players are tired of people making untruthful comparisons and statements about our game.
notice how i keep bringing up that i play darkfall? i do that, because people i quote, completely sound like they've never played darkfall and they're reading off a bunch of tasos' talking points.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
so true, SWG was and always will be the real sandbox not darkfall ( the pre cu emu version not the live version)
Don't worry no one in WoW cares about DF. I have been online regularly and been in dalaran most of the times. Never ever once I heard anyone mention DF. Nor in guild, nor in party. Nor in raid. We were busy with WoW, could care less about a failed title.
If only 1% of the WoW population care to sub, DF will have 10 servers filled, instead of 1 server struggling to find players online.
On the other hand, WoW community don't want the handful of DF obnoxious coming over. Please keep the contamination on the other side, DF can have all the bad apples. Punt intended.
DF did not get rid of WoW players, DF got rid of all its loyal fanbase in a month. 300k sign up and no one paying to keep one server filled up.
Yea you are right, WoW is a copy and it is not successful. It does not help trap the internet hardcores like you, while DF managed to net them all and keep them from bothering us. God save DF.
so true, SWG was and always will be the real sandbox not darkfall ( the pre cu emu version not the live version)
Don't compare SWG to DF, they hold the different end of a scale. SWG at launch provides gaming experience where you enjoy being there, that is one end of the scale of gameplay quality. DF marks the end of the scale where you enjoy anything else but being there.
SWG/DAoC <----------------------------- lots of games ------------------------------> DF. (end of scale) Punt intended.
Is there a DF fan who isnt condescending?

So excpecting a kind of MMO like they were made 10 YEARS AGO is having a too high expectation? OK!!!

Indeed, no MMO launches perfectly. Most people know this.
But that's not to say that they all launch at the same level of quality, or that no game should be held accountable for a really horrible launch, or being broken/incomplete. They vary by degree, with some better than others.
I know you're going for the "launch relativism" defense of Darkfall. Sorry, but the concept of "no MMO has a perfect launch" does NOT make "anything goes" acceptable. It doesn't mean that there should be zero standards for an MMO launch. It is absolutely, 100% possible for an MMO to simply be a bad game at launch.
That's where Darkfall sits now. For all the blame you give to WoW players, they aren't the ones that were really coming to the game, and they aren't the only ones leaving. On the contrary, the ones I see leaving are the ones that were initially interested in the game - the sandbox MMO fans. Why? Well, because it's not a real sandbox game, or at least does not support the depth and variety normally attributed to a sandbox MMO.
In short, it's mostly the target audience that is leaving Darkfall, because AV did not even come close to hitting the target.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
