...Then you could denounce it as conservative propaganda...

sadly...

your left leaning media reported this...

http://thepage.time.com/2009/06/14/stimulus-apologies/

Biden tells "Meet the Press" that "everyone guessed wrong" on the impact of the stimulus, economy was worse off than anyone thought.

Backs away from the estimate that the funds could create or save 3.5 million jobs, instead promises 600,000 by the end of the summer.

I'm reminded of what Palin said this week, "I told ya so." Vindication is sweet revenge

Um... I know plenty of hardcore ilberals that were against the stimulus plan. Of course, they were anti-capitalists who felt the world would be better with a few less corporate conglomerates in it but that's kind of beside the point....

The reality is that NO ONE, other than the people receiving the handouts, wanted this shit. This is one issue that you really can't divide into "liberal" or "conservative" because it totally pissed everyone off.

I don't buy that, everyone knows this was a power grab towards federalizing our economy, socialism.  And I never met a lib that didn't love that idea

edit  and i don't buy for once second that they didn't know this money would evaporate into thin air...they knew it was an absolutely pointless and futile action.

I'd like to see them report instead on how the government had planned the devaluation of the dollar to screw their debt holders by authorizing sub-prime mortgages and colluding with CEO's to bypass analysts and destroy pensions worth hundreds of millions of dollars intentionally.

If you really buy into this party shit, then you're really clueless: It's a facade for a single organization to which you pay your hard earned money with little return.

    Welcome to the US .

Yay, I win.  I TOLD YOU SO.  It fills me with such joy to say that after the Bank Bailouts and Stimulus package.  Especially since it hasn't done anything to stop the economy from hemoraging.

    Who is the grass?

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

He still is. But he's a comedian and if you ever watch that show, when he makes Obama jokes, the crowd groans because they aren't as funny as the Bush ones. Maher is a pretty realist guy and the fact that he calls Obama on the mat when he's wrong doesn't mean he dropped support.

I don't think every Republican would agree with all of Bush's mistakes through thick or thin.

    Yep.

When she loses in 2012 and blames the "liberal media" for poisoning everyone's mind, she'll dust it off again.

    And wink.

I don't buy that, everyone knows this was a power grab towards federalizing our economy, socialism.

Actually it was a transparent transaction between those in office and those that are really in power and just about everyone saw it for what it was. Socialism? Only if you believe that corporate oligarchy is socialism....

And I never met a lib that didn't love that idea

Then you haven't met too many actually liberals or you're pandering. I'm in a community that is painfully "latte liberal." Almost everyone here was against the bailout and everyone else was "undecided" which means that they didn't approve but didn't want to appear to be breaking ranks with the people they voted for. Either way, I haven't met a single person that would call the bailouts a "good" idea.

  • daddywagsdaddywags Member Posts: 27

I don't think ANYONE, even the President or anyone in Congress, was FOR the bailout. Nobody wanted to do it. However, we had two choices -- bail these companies out and give them a chance at surviving, or let them fail and see many more people forced out of work than already have been. The whole point of the bailout was to try to save jobs.

However, the money was doled out with virtually no oversight, and that's where the plan failed. Shit, the banks took a chunk of the stimulus money to hire lobbyists to lobby Congress for less oversight regarding how they spent the rest of the stimulus money.

  • CleffyCleffy Member RarePosts: 6,414

When you looked at the 2 options.  I would have chosen to let it get worse.  The difference is time.  In all that time they did not listen to people with actual experience and knowledge about the economy.  Instead they acted on gut thinking they can stop it through spending.  If you listened to the reputted economists they said to let the economy collapse and stabilize.  It would be tough for a year but then get better.  If they used stimulus money then it would only prolong the recession.

  • frodusfrodus Member Posts: 2,396

You where told...And Palin was right...

The Obama administration projected what unemployment would be if the bill was passed, compared to what would happen if there was no "stimulus" package. Unfortunately, reality has taken a quite different turn--unemployment is much worse than the predicted "no stimulus" scenario. In fact, looking at the trend line, it seems obvious that the $800 billion bill has had no impact whatsoever--no positive impact, anyway. Suckers

Trade in material assumptions for spiritual facts and make permanent progress.

One thing not one of the supporters of the democrats were willing to concede...

is that Biden actually had the nerve to say "we guessed wrong".... excuse me but economics isn't a guessing game at all. It's very clear the the BEST choice, was never given a chance on the table....CUT TAXES.   WE'd be fast on our way to full recovery by now if they'd done that.

If only we had done absolutely nothing and lost even more jobs instead of saving and creating.  Then we would be in great shape.

And go ahead and complain about how this spending will cripple the country even though the trillion dollar holy war unsurprisingly goes unmentioned.

The stimulus was needed, it's still needed, and will have more benefits in the future than any conservative will admit.  Specifically in alternative fuel which I believe is the only way America gets the auto industry back.

  • PrecusorPrecusor Member UncommonPosts: 3,589

Clearly the 700 billion dollar stimulus was really needed.

WASHINGTON — "Only a small part" of the nation's $787 billion economic stimulus had been spent through the end of last month, according to congressional analysts, despite the Obama administration's boasts Wednesday that the plan is a big success.

So far Obama has only spent 19 billion dollars?

Ah again with the "OMG it wasn't fixed immediately, told ya it wouldn't work!"

George Bush becomes president in 2000 inheriting a huge national surplus and plenty of money in the national coffers, great economy, plenty of stocks soaring, plenty of jobs, and after a few months, he starts a war... then another one at the same time. Things go horribly wrong and drag out for years with many deaths while the economy tanks.

Liberals: "OMG, look how many people have died over there and look how bad things are getting economically, and we aren't getting anywhere after years of Bush in office. This war is failing and this guy has no idea what the hell he is doing. Impeach him now before it's too late!"

Conservatives: "WHAT?! Rome wasn't built in a day. You liberals have to give him time, what did you expect? It's only been six years or so. You liberals expect things to be fixed in less than six years? How unrealistic of you."
    --------------------------------------

Barack Obama becomes president in 2008 inheriting a historic national debt and NO money in the national coffers, no economy except a sputtering one he inherited, two wars going on, jobs tanking, and one of the most scandalous rapings of the American stock system by corporations and sets a budget to stop the bleeding.

Conservatives: "OMG, look how many jobs we lost! We aren't getting anywhere after months of Obama in office. This economy is still failing and this guy has no idea what the hell he is doing. Kick him out now before it's too late!"

    Bush was no conservative.

But he understood one thing you guys just can't get into your thick skulls.  9-11 was WAR.  And every dime spent on it-regardless of how you think/agree it should have been fought- IS in the constitution.  Your stimulus bill isn't.  and need I remind yet another liberal yet again Resolution 1441.  read the damn thing will ya?
