Is it worth starting now?

I have played nearly every MMO out there but i never gave L2 a crack, i am wondering is it worth me giving this a go?. I just have a couple of quick questions.

Is the population good on this game?

Can a solo person play the game and have fun or do you need to be twinked to the max?

Are there many new people about etc?

Currently playing : Darkfall
Character name : Aeola Anara
Played: Almost every P2P MMO you can get your hands on, notably:
Daoc, SWG, LOTRO, WAR, AoC + Dozens more

Dependable. It certainly isn't near what it used to be back in the day, especially because it is a fairly old MMO (5 years +). However both Phoenix and Teon (NA server and EU server, respectively) are still both good active servers. You could probably expect them to merge more servers in the future, although who knows when they will.

You can play solo. Up to 61 any class can play solo easily due to newbie buffs and the like. After level 61 certain classes can still solo very easy (summoners and nukers) while others will want to group more often. However solo play is still very possible up until very high level, it's just not always the most viable option and grouping is strongly recommended higher up.

Now to have fun while soloing is a hard question. If you enjoy just grinding on end then sure, you could have fun. However the fun activities in Lineage II by and far are all group activities. Small scale PvP, Castle Sieges, Territory wars and even just grouping while leveling are all a lot of fun.

Pre 40 you'll probably hardly see anyone around, mostly due to the fact that the game is (again) old, but also because 1-40 is very fast to get through these days. Once you get to 40 you'll start seeing more players around, mostly because 40 is the level that subclasses start at, but you probably won't really start grouping a ton or finding a bunch of people until 61+. Now don't get me wrong, if you find yourself a good clan then chances are there are always people with alts who would level with you, or other lowbies such as yourself. It's just that the game world is so huge that even if there is a decent population of low level players they're very spread out across the game world.
