Eldritch Eponym ~ A FFXIV Linkshell
Hello everyone,
Even though FFXIV is still at least a year or more away, I'm extremely excited about it. When FFXI launched on PC in Japan I had it imported and played it without knowledge of their language for nearly a year, and then another 2+ years once the English client was released in the US. I've always loved Square-Enix, and have tried to play everything they've made, but overall FFXI was the best in the series IMHO. I have no doubts that FFXIV will once again be an MMO to be reckoned with, thus I decided to get a jump on making a forums for a new Linkshell and slowly start getting prepared for it!
Anywho, please keep in mind that many features are incomplete and things may change, but for the most part the graphical overlay is complete and there to stay.
Eldritch Eponym I say, yeah its definitely an odd choice in words for a Linkshell name, but if you stop by the forums I already have an etymology and meanings post up describing those words in full detail and my imaginative/theoretical explanation of why I chose them! If you have any comments about it, please don't hesitate to voice them! {Oh and yeah I did get the word Eldritch from the FFXIV trailer, cause after learning what it meant and described was quite fascinating to me and the lore we'll get to discover in Eorzea!}
Please stop by the Visitor and Newbie forums if you have any questions about this Linkshell or if you'd like to join! We will be casual, dedicated to enjoying the everyday adventures of FFXIV, meeting new players and hearing their stories and ultimately exploring this new land of Eorzea!

What ever happened to the days with simple guild names... Eldritch Eponym, Oh God.
Simple guild names? WTF whats the point then? I dont even get your comment. The guild name is supposed to be creative and interesting, with some meaning... I don't even know how someone would purposely create a name and think to themselves that "simple" is important as the name must have some meaning to the person.
Or are you one of the ones you like the "funny" guild names.... "Poopshoots" "Lameducks" "Two Minute Lays"
I find the name interesting sounding and I am a fan of aliteration, so yah , Ill be taking a look at the forum, and prolly joining. I like the idea of a large group ready to play together on Day One.

SpoonyBRDs >.>
lol simple guild names are for simpletons!!
Good luck with your linkshell OP.
I find ones like: leetWARRIORS or PWNAGE or some crap like that that is supposed to use nerd lingo to say how cool they are. Personally I like names that have something to do with the game itself or in the case of this game anything to do with FF in general. Something to pay homage to the games of the past. I own SpoonyBRDs (reference from FF4) and ZodiacBrave (reference from FFT).
Because simple has been taken and used over and over and over once again! I like being unique and different that makes people turn their heads and question the name that they saw or heard!
Not only that if you stop by the forums you can read up on why I chose these words which have a whole lot to do with FFXIV. At least in theory, but its really neat if you expand on it with a rich imagination.
@Bellerion
thanks, and do stop by if you're interested...of course very small atm, but I have over a year to gather people together. Heck its great to see so much love and attention to the Final Fantasy franchise on MMORPG again. FFXIV was in #1 spot for "games in development" yesterday here, and its only get even more so when more details emerge hopefully at TGS this fall, and then the Fan Faire in the winter!
I like it Icon. The idea that the linkshell name can incorporate FF mythology or terminnology and in doing so can create a deeper gameplay... you bastardiz the game when you make it about "Pwnage" or "Leetwarriors" the game is about more then numbers, damage, levels and "supposed capabilities and leet-ness" . Its cool to be accomplished, and FF11 allows one to feel that way, but don't get bogged down with leet tendancies, enjoy all aspects of the game , that means names and community aspects etc... And that seems to be something EE is going to promote in its linkshell(for now).

SpoonyBRD is funny, and its directly related to the greatest BRD to have ever graced FF; Edward, Yeah he was a weakling and not much fun in the party, but his story was really good, and he helped us out later on in the adventure against the Imp that kept you from using anything metal....was a very awesome scene! FFIV is my favorite story of them followed by FFVI, and then FFXI.
"You spoony bard!" is likely the most famous phrase in the Final Fantasy series. It was, ironically, spawned upon an unsuspecting world almost entirely by accident due to mistranslation in the first North American version of Final Fantasy IV. The line is used at what is otherwise supposed to be a dramatic high point -- Tellah's attack on Edward, the "bard" with whom his daughter has run off without his permission.

The irony of the mistranslation is the fact that Edward truly is a spoony bard.
I was half playing FFXI while I was playing the DS version of FFIV and in the linkshell chat leading up to that point I was like "here it comes" ... " he is gonna say it' ... "On my mark three ... two ... wait for it ... ' ... then linkshelled and shouted "HE SAID IT!!!"... well worth the price of the game.

hahahah, that must've been funny to be around for! Making me wanna load up some old-school gaming on my 40"...hehe
It would appear that our LS is looking at making a return to FFXI and are scheduling a static time to get together several times a week! Current plans are to play together as much as possible and have fun in Vana'diel once again until FFXIV release becomes closer and more solid information is known.
If you're interested in our LS and would like to join us not only in FFXIV when it launches, but also here very soon in FFXI where we'll be creating this LS until then. Please stop by our forums by clicking the signature below and read our visitor section highlighted in Pink. We know its still a long time before XIV engulfs us, but Final Fantasy is worth every second of this pre-preparation.
Looking forward to seeing some more former or new players interested...see ya on our forums!
Thought I'd let everyone know that we have begun as of yesterday. We are on the Fenrir server in FFXI, with almost 16 active members that all started yesterday from scratch at lvl 1 in Bastok. Many of us are veterans of FFXI but chose to restart and we have several new players.
Stop by our website/forums if your interested by clicking on my signature below. For the new players I've also got several guides written or rewritten from other authors on how to setup and get FFXI going, that include config, regediting, macros, language barrier, etc as well as links to a ton of helpful fan and official websites.
Stop on by and say hi in our Visitor/Newbie thread if you're interested in joining us in FFXI or not until FFXIV launches.
Bump...
We're up to 24 active members within FFXI, and around 35 total; whom have signed up and are awaiting FFXIV. Most of us are rank 4 & 5 now and we're getting ready to delve into the Promathia missions next month!
Its never too late to join us while we all await more info and the launch of FFXIV, so please stop by our forums and say hi, or join our public discussions!
The funniest linkshell name I've ever seen was "ROFLberryPWNcake".
I don't think there's anything wrong with the name Eldritch Eponym at all.

^^^This.
My favorite linkshells in the past have been GuardianForces and ChocoboKnights born from the Bahamut server.

Woo, hihi everyone. Well its been nearly 5 months since I placed our LS in a Hiatus status, waiting for more solid info on FFXIV before continuing on. In that time quite a bit of info has been revealed, but not enough, but we did get a beta application recently so that is a very good sign that, and I'm speculating at an January 2010 for the first wave of beta invites to go out!
Anyway, after this lengthy break and having lost most the original members who signed up to other MMOs or just dropped out, Eldritch Eponym is back! I spent the last week doing some heavy updates to our forums to make them look even better and more professional, two that I'm most pleased with are the new Crystal Icons and the Link Buttons. Plus I did a complete color scheme overhaul which made everything slightly darker and easier to read, and added a second playlist to the portal with tons of my favorite themes from many of the Final Fantasy titles! Lastly there are quite a few smaller updates behind the scenes that are not as easy to notice...hehe
We are of course looking for new members to join us, work on getting to know each other and become friends as beta and the launch of FFXIV is fast approaching. If you'd like to stop by and learn more about us, have additional questions, or would like to just say hi; then please visit our forums by clicking on my signature below and I or another member would be happy to help you out and of course be friendly in return!
Just a short quip about out LS {or whatever they end up being called} we are going to be casual and take in this massive new world slowly, mainly focusing on the lore of Hydaelyn, working on missions and quests together through the GuildLeve System, exploring the regions of Eorzea, and of course work together on becoming a dominate force of crafters and artisans that the players of our realm depend on!
Looking forward to meeting potential new players of FFXIV and/or members of our LS!
I don't know, whats the Lore to that name?
why's it not got a .com site?
and why is the forums sooo grey?
If you read the previous posts, namely the OP you'd see that info is on our forums, and where you can find it! Self Discovery is the first step...hehe
Oh and why is the sky blue...

Oh and why is the sky blue...
The blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the air.
However, much of the shorter wavelength light is absorbed by the gas molecules. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue.
As you look closer to the horizon, the sky appears much paler in color. To reach you, the scattered blue light must pass through more air. Some of it gets scattered away again in other directions. Less blue light reaches your eyes. The color of the sky near the horizon appears paler or white.
p.s. your original post was too plain to bother to fully read.......
p.p.s. you got told.....
Can't help but laugh really hard....ah well!

You did get told ... lol. Next time can you please ask the anatomy of a female pron star or something ... it would yield much better illustrations
