I'll do what I always do, buy them both and play them in tandem (one game the first day, the other the next and so on). I usually know before the end of the month which game will hold my interest.
I did that with EQ2 and WoW when they first launched in Europe. I believe that (at the time I made the right choice).
Same here, tho I think Aion is a bit over-estimated. I get some info these days, it is quite dull in real gameplay. But thats just hearsay.

Not really....2 different games, 2 different styles...I think that they both will do ok.....but for me, I'll stick with CoX for my super hero/villain needs

I don't think they'll have much of an effect on each other. I think Champion's player base is going to be mostly on consoles, although I myself plan on playing it on PC.
I think Aion will have more staying power. Champion, while it looks good, doesn't seem to be the kind of game that will hold my attention for more than a couple of months.
Its a silly question.
Either you like the super hero genre more then the fantasy one, or vice versa. If you like both, then it will come down to what you want to play. Its not just going to be a global sweep.

The effect will be primarily in initial sales. After all, they do target a similar market in some aspects, at least overlapping for some of the audience. In the long run that likely will not matter that much, but people rarely buy two time-demanding games at once.
I dont think its going to be huge for either, though. Probably just a 10 to 15% off the initial months sales, that if quality is good will be recouped later on.
Both games play VERY differently form each other and deliver very different things. I really don't think the audience will cross over much but if it does, I suspect most will try both as there is little similarity between the two.
There is NO miracle patch.
95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.
Hope is not a stategy.

my option isn't in your so i will post a question to your question...
Do you think your caps lock is stuck?
Aion sounds like more of the same.
They seem to have made flight into another Carrot On A Stick gimmick, rather than being an involved part of the gameplay.
So, you will need to wait on DCUO or Champions Online for a new MMORPG with flight integrated. Interestingly, in those games you could probably create the same type of character that you could in AION, just with far far more freedom.
So I don't know what AION really has to offer, since Flight is limited to certain regions only, and a max of 1 minute flight time. I wonder what they will do if World of Warcraft decided to allow flight at all levels in Northrend...would they suddenly change that 1 minute to unlimited? *smirk*
If I was interested in both games I would buy both. I'm not sure how much of the gaming market has been impacted by the economy. Obviously if people are feeling a crunch they'll have to make a choice...
If I'm not interested in both games... then I guess its a non factor.
So if one seems to be not selling as well as it should.. The question really changes to:
Was it the economy... or what did we do / not do that made people not want to buy our product.
Oh and I don't think either of these games have been promoted to the level they should have been. Especially Champions... I swear I see more even about EQ2 and updates blah blah around the net than either of these games. Biggest source of news on Aion is to go directly to "the largest english speaking fansite" and I dunno about Champions (that's secret shhh).
Normally you can find that kind of info on a game close to launch... all over (and see ads etc... heck even EvE has commercials...*.*)
read up on the game before posting.
You start out with only one minute of flight time, then as you level it gets higher, they say on the website that it can go as high as 5 mins.

So it is a carrot on a stick mechanic. You need to grind through levels etc. before at the very end when it isn't of as much use to you, you can fly for 5 minutes. Sort of like flight in World of Warcraft's WOTLK region.
AND you cannot fly in certain areas.
So it is a Carrot on A Stick.
How much better would it have been if the game was truly 3 Dimensional? For me, it would have been a must buy.
They're completely different games.
Nevermind the fact that there are games which force players into a strategy, and games which have a strategy forced on them by players. Aion is the former. CO is the latter.

There are 2 upgrades to your wings, the first one add about 30 sec flight time cost about 1 million kinah, the second one add about 1 minute flight time cost about 11 million kinah. So, yeah, in total, without potion you could fly about 3 minutes but it will cost you an arm and a leg, unless you buy kinah with real money. With that type of carrot and stick, AION will be like heaven for gold farmers because it will cost you a ridiculous amount of kinah to do stuffs at high level.
There are also potion to extend flight time, so if you keep drinking potion, you might fly abit longer.
Personally, after playing Aion, I was reminded of every game I've played for the past 6 years. I'll pass on that, and will be playing Champions instead.
That, of course is my personal opinion. In regards to the topic of this thread, I agree with many here in that I don't believe one will hinder the other. There are too many MMO choices on the market, and the player base is already splintered into a thousand fragments. One game will not change the potential players much, just because they both happen to be released at the same time.

I've read a lot of Aion is grind, but have not experienced this for myself. I just don't think I can stomach leveling in another fantasy world right now. : ) However I've heard really good things bout the look and feel of the world. If PvP is solid it might be worth taking a look at.
Champions fast paced combat and hero genre sounds fun. The only thing that concerns me is will there be enough depth to character development, and the world itsself to keep the game interesting.
I feel sorry for new MMO's these days. There is such high and unrealistic expectation now.
Seriously, where does all of this come from?
These 2 games are apples and oranges. Just because they are released at the same time?
That is like saying do you think no one will see Star Wars cuz Die Hard is released at the same time?
I mean, other than initial box office, they will eventually both be seen. Unless you do not like Die Hard ( I mean come on, who does not like Star Wars )
Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.
The difference between the two is that in WoW flying mounts are just transportation, while in Aion your character is usable (can cast spells, heal, etc.). Besides, I think that the Aion world is designed with the limited flying time in mind, especially the abyss, while the WoW world was designed with unlimited flying time.
AION will undoubtedly do better the CO and I think thats one reason why COs Sales will be affected. 2 big MMOs launch on the same day!? Are you kidding... if they launched a month apart.. more people would be going for the new game then waiting.. and it would hinder sales.
Most people aren't going to pay for both games that same day. Besides.. the whole thing is a ploy from NCSoft to try and minimize the extended loss they will see from CoX because of CO.
Personally I'll be playing CO though.
I'm looking forward to both games. So it bothers me a little that they're going to be released around the same time. But I suppose I can try and play both.
No, both are aimed at different people

Not going to buy any of them.
Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics.

This is like asking will apples hinder the sales of oranges.
Well for the citrus crowd, it sure won't. For the crowd that just likes fruit, then it would depend on which one they want.
For the apple crowd, well they'd buy apples anyway so it doesn't matter.
