Is there any way to try this before buying?

I was wondering if there was any way to try DarkFall before buying it.. if not could someone tell me (who currently plays, not someone who thinks it sucks) what the finer aspects of the game are?

thanks!

There is no trial, and if you look at the website, they don't even want you to know the game is released.

I'm playing the game and liking it, but I can tell you one thing: this game is not for everyone.

If you don't like full loot, and can't stand getting ganked, wait for a trial. Oh yea this game has lots of downtime, so be prepared to have something else to do while playing, like laundry or reading books.

My favorite aspects about the game are the fps combat, full loot, and the large beautiful world that is fun to explore.

Thank you for that info. I know that the game isn't for everyone, but I do think it is for me.. from what I have seen it looks pretty fun to play, I like pvp, and don't mind getting ganked, but what is full loot? sorry I am kind of a noob to some terms..

If you kill someone you can take everything in their inventory, and everything they have equipped.

Others can do the same to you.

And getting resources to craft gear is pretty time consuming, so people really don't want to die if they are geared.

Is there a bank, so that you can put the items you want saved in there? I think it would be fun to go out and craft and worry about watching your back, it adds a sense of realism and would keep me involved.

Are  you under the impression that a person can't be playing the game and still think that it sucks?

I played the game until last week and found it deeply flawed ( so I could use your terminology "sucks" ), does that disqualify my opinion ( even if said opinion is based on actual game experience )?

Or are you looking for only positive opinions, even if they're overlooking serious game flaws?

If I were you, I'd wait for the inevitable free trial.

The game has a lot of good points - many of them - but the bad points are so bad (and stupid really) that it's not a game I'd recommend to anyone yet.

Far too many exploits and screwed up game mechanics for anyone to part with money for this.

I didn't mean to start anything, I just didn't want all the negative people coming in here and posting stuff like "this game sucks don't waste your time" etc. I would appreciate the positive aspects, if you could give some that would be great. I know there are flaws, all games have flaws, I understand this and for a game that is like this (generally, the type of game i've always wanted to play) I would be more than happy to play with those flaws with the glimmer of hope that the developers may fix them one day.. however before I pay for the game I would like to know peoples opinions on what makes this game fun for them.

Currently it's universal banking, so people just travel from town to town naked. There's very little fast-travel in the game, so you will probably spend a lot of time traveling.

For gathering timber, stone, and herbs you can gather by city towers, which will kill anyone that tries to kill you. So there's pretty much no risk gathing those. It's just a mindless time sink.

Getting ore can be quite a challenge until you have done a lot of exploration and found some good areas. You have to watch your back gathering ore.

    In theory.

But like so many things in DF, theory and practice are but distant cousins.

Other players can and will debuff your stats while harvesting - and right under guard towers. Curses, for some bizarre reason, don't count as attacks.

Some also enjoy simply running into you to bump you off your harvest node.

There are also ways to completely circumvent tower protection.

In theory you're also protected from same faction players by an alignment system - but it's so full of holes that it just makes it easier for same faction players to hassle you.
