Running out of PvP options...

meadmoonmeadmoon Member UncommonPosts: 1,344

I was thinking about re-subbing to Darkfall to check out if things have changed much, but after reading the forums here and over at DF, I'm thinking not. I am really missing that type of PvP and looking for another game to play.

I only have three criteria:

1. It has good PvP (FFA preferred, but not essential)

2. It is a fairly recent game (I've played enough UO, EQ... thanks)

2. It is NOT Eve Online.

Any suggestions?

Well, besides Lineage 2 I would suggest Archlord, hardcore server.

EVE Online's a pretty good game.  Particularly if you're into FFA PvP.  Wasn't sure which of the two '2' points were valid so I chose to ignore the second one ;)

  • SabiancymSabiancym Member UncommonPosts: 3,150

I'm sure someone will chime in and say Warhammer, but don't bother.  Warhammer "PvP" is nothing but PvE in pvp regions.

I'd suggest putting yourself into a coma for a year and hope something else comes out.  That's what I am planning to do, just waiting for the big bottles of tylenol to go on sale.

Sadly, Lineage 2 is controlled by cheaters. So I think this suggestion doesn't suit the OP.

The only reason I added a "Not Eve" clause was because I recently left that game because I couldn't stand the community any longer...after playing since 2003. Otherwise, I probably would have gone to Eve.

I don't know one now.   Probably some korean grinders have good pvp, but is endgame.   You will get some good games to release "soon" that will have some endgame pvpness. But I don't think is good design.

If you really need that much pvp, you sould re-join Darkfall.

Have you played Conan? It could be trash-pvp fun for a while, about till level 70, or something.

Darkfall, Conan ( only 2 months),  2Moons (or other trash-rpg),  AION (after a pvegrind )

    I don't know.

You know, I hadn't though about that as an option, but it might be a good idea. I can play my PvE games occasionally (like I do now) and just wait.

i hear ya  i feel the same way but with a diverse set of MMO's comming out over the next year there will be plenty of options , for now i turn to FPS  (left4dead and ARMA II) to keep me busy til i get a beta invite or a release of the many mmo's im interested in trying out before i set down in one.

I assume that WAR's PvP is too tame for you. If not, but you dont like WAR, DAOC is having a bit of a revival as they merge all servers into one mega server. Something you can try out for 14 days.

Otherwise Darkfall continues to evolve. HOwever, beware the forums ..they are very radicalized. Best thihng is send an email or PM to a current player asking about it. Generally PMs/emails are a lot more accurate.

    Good Luck

I played WAR for a (very) short time and thought it was OK. What do you like about it?

DAoC? If they consolidate the servers and it brings in more players, then I'll re-sub. That is my favorite game of all-time, even over UO which I always loved playing.

Based on your criteria I don't think there's any MMO that fits currently.  Maybe try some fps games, you'll get all the FFA PvP fix you need there.

I'm not Czzarre, but maybe I can help you a little bit. WAR PvP has always been satisfying for me, although I will admit it is far from the best PvP that an MMO can have. In reality it is a typical "no risk, high reward" PvP MMO that seems to be all the rage these days. If you die, you wait a few seconds and revive to run back in and repeat the process. Do this enough and get lucky with rolls and you'll walk away with at least some new gear.

Now, despite this negativity, I do enjoy the game. The PvP is satisfying and very balanced (for an MMO :P). Mythic has done a great job with balancing, and I believe only those who have not put enough time into PvP will say otherwise (ie: "I got killed by a Bright Wizard one time and therefore they are overpowered!!1!"). The game runs very well on all the systems I've played it on (medium and high-end desktops, and one laptop), and it's the type of MMO where you can play for 30 minutes or for 5 hours and have fun. Scenarios are always fun, in my opinion, although some people have the completely legitament complaint that it gets repetitive. Personally I've always had fun with these, but their complaints are valid.

Keeps, on the other hand, are a problem in the game that needs to be fixed. In my opinion, there's no real reason to defend or attack a keep. Sure, you need to do it for a hope at good gear, but you don't really lose anything by failing to defend your keep, or by letting an enemy sit on a keep, unless of course they somehow muster the forces to attack a city. With that said, I still think keeps can be fun at times, especially when a 40+ vs 40+ fight breaks out. Sure, AoE will kill 90% of the people around, but it can still be fun.

I'd recommend giving WAR a try again, especially now that the new LotD content is out. We have yet to see how that will affect the game, but I'm optimistic and am hoping for the best. If you have any other questions I can help you out with, send me a PM. There's a lot to cover, but hopefully I gave you an idea of why I think WAR is a good PvP choice (...of the MMOs out right now :P).

Thanks, I might do that, just to check it out.

The only other game I play right now is LOTRO, but only when I want a PvE fix. I keep finding myslef logging on and doing epic quests solo just so I feel like I'm getting some action  The upside is I can get some good loot depending on how long I survive.

Are you looking for world pvp in specific? If you enjoy arena style pvp you could try Guild Wars. You can jump in at day one, no hassle of leveling up. It's fast paced, strategic, and a load of fun if you enjoy that particular type of pvp.

Well, besides Lineage 2 I would suggest Archlord, hardcore server.

Sadly, Lineage 2 is controlled by cheaters. So I think this suggestion doesn't suit the OP.

This is not true at all. Our alliance is 100% legit and we recently took our first Castle.  Lineage 2 is the best PVP experience on the market and always has been. It just may take you a bit of playing before you get to that point but its well worth it.

Sadly it is. Look at European servers. 90% of players are bots. Parties that are caught bot are silently unbanned (Luna story, now the story on franz). It's impossible to level because of them. People are using 3rd party software and all the sieges and TW's are controlled by third party software.

Do you play in Phoenix? I've heard that situation there is a little bit different

    Sad, but true.

See my sig. However, keep in mind that that game is heavily about building your empire and gathering resources to do so. The complexity is very high and combat few and far between but it is truly a hardcore FFA PvP game with real politics and the works.

If you like 4X games in a MMO environment you should give it a shot. They have a free limited trial.

Agreed, for pure RVR style PVP there isn't a game out there (other than EVE) that has done it right.  Unfortunately DAOC is a dying game :(  It's still an *AWESOME * game but it suffers from 'it's old so I won't try it' syndrome unfortunately.  TBH it's better than almost any other game on the market.  It's *hands down* the best Fantasy MMO on the market and I would rank it dead even with EVE Online for overall quality of a game.

Just a damn shame so many people don't try it due to it's age.  If it had more new players it'd still be a rocking good time.  My advice:  Play on the classic servers if you do give it a try.  They have the best ruleset (imo) and the best community.  Unless something has changed since I last played.

I did reactivate my DAoC account for one month just to check it out and unfortunately, my character is on the classic cluster, which is d-e-a-d. But I did have a bit of fun.

My biggest surprise was I also reactivated WAR for one month. I re-rolled a new character on Dark Crag and had a blast. Thinking about my previous experience with WAR, I have to say that the main difference is the server. I had a lot of information this time about which servers were good and bad, something that wasn't present in the early days of the game.

Having said that, I still think WAR was ruined by having a 2-realm system. The third faction in DAoC was what made RvR so dynamic, IMHO.

But I think WAR will suffice until something else comes along or they do something to improve it (hint: add a third faction)

I'll still try out some of the other suggestions from folks, so thanks to everyone who offered them.
