When will we get a Sci-fi MMO thats complete with depth, and strategy. One where you play as an AVATAR not a ship. One where you can have crews to run ships, indepth economy, civilain factions. Basically a virtual world where you can carve out your path. WHEN???

When we can already do that IRL, we will have it in a game.
...
=(
I am playing EVE and it's alright... level V skills are a bit much.
You all need to learn to spell.
Yea thats what i was hoping for. But you ARE your ship. Thats been done to death. We need something new.
I believe EvE is coming out with an "Avatar" mode of some sort, its probaly the best Sci-Fi mmo we will be getting for a long time that has the things you mentioned in it.

Ive played EvE and definitely a good game. Whenever they get to implmenting avatars I will definitely be there to check it out. If you had a game similar to EvE, but were able to have player crews and actually "running" your ship was a big part of gameplay, then I think that would be the game I am envisioning.
I'd love a new Cyber-punk style MMORPG, with open, WORLD PVP (no instanced, arena / battleground shit...), and a dark, nasty atmosphere.
Like old-school Neocron without the MAD bugs, and more content.
But it will never happen....no one has the spine to make a game like this anymore.
Said it before, will say it again.
Someone, with half a braincell, should make a Shadowrun MMO. I realize there's some fantasy elements in that too but...if it was done WELL...I'd cancel every other sub and play that game until the day I died.
You mean a bit like... Darkfall?
Eh, I can see where you're coming from.
I don't even know what I want in an MMORPG anymore, to be honest. I just want something that's fun and progressive, fun being the more important one, and I'm afraid that hasn't happened for a long time.

This would never work because players would all want their own ship.

Agreed 100%. I loved shadowrun on both SNES and sega. If they did it RIGHT, it would be a huge success.
Global Agenda?
Would be cool if the "ship" were in fact your guild hall, and the guild controlled it in space.
PVE could be done on an avatar/fighter level and PVP could be on a mother ship to fighter ship level.
they had planned to do this in SWG at one point....
...but we know how THAT turned out.
Perhaps if we should get "Elite 4" ? As David Braben allways said, the tec was not good enough back then to do an propper MMO....but now....hmm...that would be awesome and tbh, i would make myself a tatoo on my b*** if it would happen.

Well there's this little software company called BioWare. The make RPGs. And there's this IP called Star Wars. Put the two together and you have, Star Wars: The Old Republic.
I would love that too. As mentioned by the post below yours I would love a Shadowrun mmo.
Btw, your sig is creepy. FEAR?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but SWTOR will have none of these things. Besides....they're not "iconic" or "Star Warsy".
Starcraft Online..
Would work I think. Untill something else comes along, Ill wait for Earthrise. Sci-Fi elements, fps/skill system with no levels.
I dont really believe we will ever get warp drives and stuff.
Current physics do not have anything like this. Of course they could be wrong. But I'm not too optimistic we will ever actually be able to break the light speed barrier, or find a way to bypass it (such as with wormholes, artificial or natural).
Personally I think that, in a really good SF MMORPG, you would need a full guild and a huge resource collecting and crafting effort to actually create a large starship.
Small star ships that can be used by single players should be possible too, but shouldnt have the speed and of course much less battle power, than a full starship.
Theres a lot of blanks to fill however. How exactly would one farm for ingredients ? What are the actual quests to do ? SF usually doesnt really portrait their characters as adventurers.
Maybe you would have to choose your race at the beginning of the game, and then cooperate with the other players of your race to avoid being conquered by the other races (or to help them conquer other races, possibly to extinction).
Its all quite tricky to figure out, because nobody really bothered yet to do something like this.

Pretty sure SWTOR won't have much in the terms of in depth economy, ability to run crewed ships, or resemble a virtual world that you carve out your own path.
They've pretty much said its designed for the player to work thorugh a pre-scripted story, with the only variety being the differences based on the paths you chose. While their might be several paths, in the end, the song remains the same.
But it will have Avatars and be based in space (sort of)
EVE's still the only game out there, if they could just get that ambulation project delivered they'd make a whole lot more people happy.

I would be all over a game based on the R. Talsorian game world Cyberpunk2020. Very cool stuff there.
It's gotten to the point where some MMOs have been reduced to little more than success dispensers. Don't think. Don't challenge yourself. Do as little as possible... but still be rewarded for it. Yeah.. *that's* fun.

The problem is, Star Wars isn't really sci-fi, it's space opera, it's got it's fair share of fantasy elements in it. Most of us want science fiction, zero-fantasy. No magic, no "Force", nothing but serious science fiction.
That kind of thing is going to be hard to get in the current fantasy-centric MMO world.
