Ranger + crafting?

Hi,

Few questions:

(a) I have a ranger parked in AoC but stopped partially playing cause the class did about 200dps compared to 700dps of assassin. Anyone know the present scenario?

(b) howis crafting doing? Last time I played it was more or less useless thing to have. Does it have any importance now?
