Quick question, is there much competition for MMO's there? I mean if theres no WoW, WAR, LotRO, EQ...I can see why AION is the biggest, no competition at all. I'm not saying AION won't be good, I don't think NCsoft has a very good record for games though, I've played almost all of them, Guild Wars is decent I guess.
I also have 2 questions for anyone who played lvl 1-10 beta, even though you only got to see up to lvl 10,
1. did you encounter a lot of invisible walls throughout zones/towns/wherever you were?
2. were there instanced zones, and were there loading times at all throughout? Thanks.

I'm having trouble with this post
Are you serious? im not sure. Becuse i wouldent think anyone would be this daft.

PS. Do some research please....

1. did you encounter a lot of invisible walls throughout zones/towns/wherever you were?
no, unless you are trying to go up a straight hill. then yes. but otherwise no. unless you mean the flight ceiling or flight boundries.
2. were there instanced zones, and were there loading times at all throughout? Thanks.
level 1-10 is basicly an instance with like 10 channels after that point only Sanctum (elyos) is still channeled everything else is all togeather. however there are loading screens between each "massive" zone.

OP korea has 10 times the mmo's we have in the west. nc soft is korean so i'll let you figure out the rest.
korea is mmo crazy
"Quick question, is there much competition for MMO's there? I mean if theres no WoW, WAR, LotRO, EQ...I can see why AION is the biggest, no competition at all."
NAEU is a joke of a market compared to Korea or China. Aion probably faces less competition here than in Korea.
"I don't think NCsoft has a very good record for games though..."
Guild Wars, Lineage and Lineage 2 are some of the most successful MMO titles in the world.

The gaming industry is a mainstream thing in Korea. You see ads on billboards, commercials far more often than in the west and their gaming events are usually bigger, besides e3.
Korea is one of the leading countries in the world for the IT industry and NCsoft is the biggest online company in Korea. NCsoft is a global company with headquarters just about everywhere. All NCsoft has ever done is develope MMO's since the company was started back in 97. Their games were never really big in the west, L2 had a wider audience than lineage. Then CoH hit and gained a somewhat larger appeal. There's a bunch of super casual f2p's mog's (multi-player online games, they aren't massive) from ncsoft out there. NCsoft also made Guild Wars, so you figure it out for yourself.
yeah and 99.9% of their MMO's are F2P Grindfest CRAP...
so the op's question still remains valid, and one I honestly wondered when seeing the reviews of it.
The OP only know about "WoW, WAR, LotRO, EQ" exist and doesn't know there is many Korean MMO. Isn't korean are the king of mmo? similar like Japan make car even thou Japan didn't invent the first car.
If i had a nation and that whole nation specialized in hamburgers and we had 10x the hamburger joints of all other countries, but all of our hamburgers were made of feces save one or two and a rival country had 10 hamburger joints but 9 of those were better than my best hamburger joints.... does this automatically make me the better burger country?
because that's what you are saying

If you mean "high quality" MMO's you have a point. But quality is opinionable, so I don't know.
On the other hand, If you mean "There are not other MMO's that people may want to play in Korea" the concept is humurous.
Like a shortage of oil in Arabia Saudi. Vozka in russia. Sugar un cuba. Vino in spain. Cocacola in USA. MMO's in Korea.
In a Korean cybercafe you probably have to navigate trough a SEA of mmo's icons, to get into the AION mmo.
So yea, probably you have a point, but because theres a alternate reading for your post that is humoruous, people will make a joke on your post, and I don't blame then :-)

And yet another person whose played like three f2p games and then thinks they're all from Korea and all Korean games are like that.
City of Heroes an f2p grindfest? Nope! Was Tabula Rasa an f2p grindfest? Nope! Guildwars? Nope! Exteel? It's f2p, but there's nothing to grind since it's all pvp.
Oh yeah, those are all NCsoft games. NCsoft was the first company to make a super-hero MMO, whether it not it was 'good' isn't the point here. Quite a few people enjoy it. NCsoft attempted a new generation of Sci-fi mmo's, due to a lot of internal fighting the game suffered, but they still tried.
Huxley is another Korean game from Webzen, hardly a grindfest. Aion is hardly a grindfest, maybe try the game before you go spouting off like some half-drunk ass.
The vast majority of f2p's are grindfests because they want you to spend money on xp items. This holds true no matter where they come from.
Where do these people come from.
Every new game that comes out, people got to hate on it.

No the OP's post is just ignorant of the facts (just like your is. Tell me: how many asian game have you played over the years ?)
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
OP and others have failedto account for other asian countries besides just korea. taiwan, china and even japan are big for high quality games as well as known for mass spaming of "clones" BUT unlike western countries they arent as annoyed/bothered by a cookie cutter.
as i recall Blizzard is korean or 60% korean based as is webzen and NCsoft and roughly 5 other big name companies you dont really hear about as they are not ported to english.
main thing to remember is westerners are noobs compaired to asian mmo'ers. where we excell at RT/FPS they have their MMOs so they tend to mass produce it more. (not always great games)
so im pretty sure Aion has compation in korea/asia just like it does in the west. BUT lets atleast give the game a chance before burying it...
F2P games HAVE to be a grind. main reason being... why pay micopayments for a F2P if you get max level/end game in 1 week of playing? you wont bother supporting the game so all the man hours to make it are wasted cause it shuts down do to lack of funding in a month...
p2p games charge you so you tend to have less of a grind... as no one wants to pay 20usd a month to get 1 level or 50% to a level
This.

To be fair, CoH was developed by Cryptic not NCSoft. NCSoft was the publisher. Guild Wars was developed by ArenaNet which later became a subsidiary of NCSoft.
As far as competition for Aion, I'm not sure exactly how many subscribers WoW has in S. Korea but it has about 5.5 million subscribers in Asia.

the op is saying that aion has no competition he isnt asking how good the mmo's are..korea has every mmo we have multiplied by 10...so aion has a lot competition. you went totally off topic with your hate mongering.
Aion is going to give wow a run for its money world wide. Aion has got my money any day over wow.

Uhhhhhhh, Guild Wars is arguably the best PvP MMO game on the market currently, based on the fact that it is a balanced class/skill-centric game. NCsoft and some 3rd Party companies use to (and maybe still do) house some of the largest PvP arena tournaments on LAN in the world, which by-the-way is where Blizzard got their arena concept from, for WoW... and MLG makes me laugh...
I remember seeing the first-place cash reward/prize for a tournament held in Taiwan one year, $20,000 USD, split between approximately 8 members. I believe War Machine (WM) won that year, and a US team came in 2nd or 3rd. Guild Wars is not a necessarily a grind-fest because it is strictly end-game PvP Guild-vs-Guild. And the fact that NCsoft has that reputation for a better balanced PvP architecture, I'm glad they are behind the PvP mechanics for Aion. Unlike Blizzard's WoW, although a great game, started as a PvE-centric build. Which is why class/skill balancing (to even the slightest degree) seems impossible to accomplish; classes and their skills change every month practically, and it gives the gamers something to rant about.
Just don't respond to Povey's penis envy.
NO they did not...why in the hell do B.net kiddies keep preaching this??
Arenanet made Guild Wars NCsoft just acts as a publisher.....Arenanet has zilch zero nada to do with GW other than that.
NCsoft is just the publisher. Other companies devolped the games. Cryptic made CoH and Arenanet made Guild Wars, not NCsoft.

ronan32: He is right, 99.99% of MMOs in Korea is crap, their sole purpose is to make money and to be affordable to appeal to masses. Ever wonder why NCsoft is the only company able to advertise and release their games in EU/US? Because their target customers are very different. US/EU is built around quality, not affordability. So I'd have to ask you not to make wild claims of "hate mongering." When you yourself is ignorance to the information at hand.
Also whoever said NCsoft made "great" games in the past like Lineage 2.... I've played that game for 3 months, It was complete garbage. That game was made to make money, there was no quality in it that made it fun: grindfestering, bot farmers, and a customer service representative that condoned the bot farmers and had been in allegience to gold farming companies that were most likely right next to each other with the rest of the sweat shop workers.
South Korea is the gaming capital of the world. Seriously, its like football in America.

So you are saying that Korean people aren't able to make quality games, and Korean players can't appreciate a quality game, but prefer grinders? I got your hood and sheet from the dry cleaners. They took the smoke stench out.
