I don't see how flying in a game based around Angels and Demons could possibly be considered fail.
While i agree that it isn't strange with wings in a fantasy game, I have to tell you, this game is not about angels and demons..
Asmodians is not the "evil"... They just adapted to living in the upper part of the world, where the nearby star dont shine.. Asmodea's Environment is much more harsh, which would explain asmodians have gotten claws to adapt to this environment... As far as the wings go.. In this world only the chosens get wings, according to the story not everyone gets them, but there is a chance for everyone.. there can be several things triggering it, maybe your in a hopeless battle, and your the last one standing, and in the final minute your wings comes out and you've been chosen, you are now a Daeva...
Since Elyos is a place with lush lands, and sunlight, they believe they have been blessed by Aion, and they believe that Aion must hate Asmodians since they have been forced to live up where theres no light... this further fuels the battle...

This is an excellent point to make. There is no good vs. evil here. It's faction versus faction... there is a lot of history behind it, all of which you're introduced to while playing.
<snip> more powerful compared to normal humans and you can't die BUT you are a dime in a dozen as well. <snip>
Well...daevas can die, if there isn't an obelisk available. Which is what happened to a high ranking Asmodian who had a thing with a girl from a noble family.
The story can be read from a note once you obtain a jewel box belonging to a necklace (early quest).
But I digress. Yes, they're all just soldiers in the end.
Edit: oh and I hate these troll threads. Clearly people who have not played the game
Sounds like the OP is lamenting the fact that every new MMO is not just an Everquest or LOTRO expansion, and that the genre is refusing to stagnate into that limited `High Fantasy' drivel from whence it grew.
I'm gonna guess 40+... bearded... probably a LARPer.
Guys he's not trolling, in his view this was a genuine concern and so he made a thread about it.
In such a case then people need to dedicate a little more time on their opening posts.
I predict this game to have a spiked launch, then quickly subside, and I base my opinion on AION's choice to engineer universal angel-wing flight into the game.
Concerned? It didn't come off to me as if he/she was worried about something. More like passing judgment and making baseless predictions.

lol, I thought he may have been baiting too but then I went through his latest post history and this really does seem like something that bugs him. I agree he could have worded it differently and his title doesn't inspire cool headed discussion.
I see this time and time again in new MMO's over the past few years: they break the time-honored fantasy convention that you start as a humble adventurer and work your way into being a hero. Instead, these MMO's introduce some strange and/or powerful funky game concept such as flying or controlling a team of characters or twitch play and it destroys the game. Low level characters sprouting wings might be cool in Korea, but it will fail in North America. I predict this game to have a spiked launch, then quickly subside, and I base my opinion on AION's choice to engineer universal angel-wing flight into the game. Despite some folks' ideas that "anything goes" in fantasy, most North American fantasy players are quite conventional (i.e., Tolkienesque, Camelot, Conan, etc...) Everyone flying is just strange.
I don't see anything strange about flying in this game. Honestly you should try playing it. Flying is a part of the world and the lore.
As to North Americans not being able to deal with a fantasy that isn't based on old classical literature, I think you are pretty mistaken. I think a game with unique lore and a unique environment is exciting and refreshing.
Everyone flying is part of the world design. It introduces a new dynamic to exploration and combat.
I'm not saying this game will be a success as there are many other factors. But I do not thing Flying will contribute to it's failure.

hmm, im disapointed!
I was expecting some reason or point as to why flying would fail, and there is not all in the OP's post, just a baseless opinion.
Since flight is weaved into the fabric of the game, much like it is in CoH I dont see any reason why it should fail.
