WhatRuOnWhatRuOn Member Posts: 13

Ok I bought the game knowing that most of the people don't like it....But I'm a fan of the series so i decided to check it out.

Anyways, I've put about 48 hours into it and I'm LVL13 THF....image

Is it normal to lvl that SLOWOOOOO!??!image

If you could post your lvl and how much time you have into it I would appreciate it.  So I can judge how much I suck.

your doing fine, lv13 thf in 48 hours isnt bad (especially since thief really sucks pre-15)

it took me about 6 months to hit level 50 (but then i had 4 classes to 30 before i hit 50 with one (rdm, blm, sam, war)

  • AdoraAdora Member Posts: 320
From what I remember it took me a week to get to lvl 10 as a WHM. That was when the game first came out. I was 30 I believe 2 weeks later. I haven't played since.. I do miss that game so much. My friends IRL quit playing, so I followed. image My name means "to lead" IRL, why did I not follow that!image Oh well, I guess I am over it now. Have fun, great game.

now you know why a lot of people say the game sucks... then again it's not all about the level ups... collect as much silk from the cralwers as you can if your new windurst.. that was easy money maker for me when i used to play. level up your whm from time to time because WHM sub is never a bad idea.

I cant belive square enix put their name on this..

I had to play all the previous ff titles to get the respect back.. now i wanna try it again, but then ill have to play all the titles yet again and my social life will die..

Long live Final Fantasy, dont let the myth get killed with FFXI, change the name..

imageimageimage (i off course respect the fact that people like this game, but i dont have 2 understand it)

"Who am I to blow against the wind?"

"Who am I to blow against the wind?"

Yes i quit also for alittle bit, but I'm thinking about going back to it.  Since some of the better titles aren't going to be out for awhile(disregarding WoW and EQ2 dont have time to start another lvl grinder), I decided I might as well keep playing if I'm paying...image  Hopefully I will recieve a new liking to it, but I don't know.  If anyone would like to help me out with some pointers I'm all ears.  I'm a lvl 13 thf in San D'oria(sp?) on the Leviathan server.  I would love to hear some tactics for quicker lvling and money making in this area.  Thanks everyone!image

unforunately your at a really bad time for thief, no sneak attack yet makes you completely worthless in a team (lack of damage with low def and hps) but once you get the skill you should see team invites a bit more often then you are now.

Best off solo the La Theine area or the Konstant area, kill low xp mobs fast, bees are nice...not too hard and drop semi decent loot, beehive chips (its not crawler silk but will have to do until u can reach a place where u can get silk) Like i said above tho unless you got some friends you prolly level up faster just looking for solo xp til 15 (youll also get TH1 which will help you make money)

  • WhatRuOnWhatRuOn Member Posts: 13

These bee-hive chips you speak of....are they items Sold to the NPCs or players? Same question with the silks...

You know what really pisses me off about this game...The strategy guide....It is the most uninformal piece of crap you could spend 15 dollars on.  I thought being a strategy guide for a MMORPG would probably give you nice Lvling spots and whats mobs drop what loot. Or maybe even money making tips...But NO!image

And does the price of Pots piss anyone else offimage....maybe im ranting about this game because i suck at it...i dunno.image

Level 15 in 48 hrs gameplay or you mean 2 days of playing?2 days of playing ,especially being a noob with no sub is extremely good, unless you have tons of friends to lead you ,even still its pretty good.If 48 hrs of gameplay, then not very good. Not really your fault either, without someone teaching you the ropes,it can be a tough start to the game.

If you save your money wisely from doing repeatable quests, you can afford[hard to find]YELLOW/RED curry. This is an awesome food to a low level player, because it adds 25/30 hit points as well as acting like a meat mithkabob. These hitpoints are huge when added to a low level player, and the added +5/7 STR they add, give you more damage and faster kills.

I agree with the guy who said the guide is garbage, but that is because they try to keep everything in the game a secret.I think if you found out,how little the bonus items really affect your player ,items would drop way down in price, and the whole money making scam, would be lost to the NM bot campers.

To myself i have always found the first 15 levels to be the most fun.No need for frustrating ,non organized parties, nor the need to spend time waiting for a party.Just headout on your own and have fun.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

yeah i agree that is pretty good for the pre-15 lvls.If u wanna lvl faster u should ask around for a higher lvl mage to power lvl u then u will lvl ALOT faster but it kinda takes the fun outta the early lvls.Just wait till u have to lvl 20+ jobs.It takes awhile.image

Welcome to FFXI. Lol, you think its slow now?! just wait to 30+. this is my biggest pet peave with most mmorpgs. The problem, I believe, is that you aren't rewarded for every single level, instead every 10 levels or so you are rewarded. The grind wouldn't be so bad if the reward was constant and consistent at every level. Just my take on it though.

  • TaruboyTaruboy Member Posts: 84

30+ is still really fast just wait for 60+ no thats slow lol

Yes , leveling slow is very normal in final fantasy 11...

I played the game for 7 or 8 months, as a VERY hardcore gamer (8-14 hour days) And was still under level 50 when i finished.... (although i had a few jobs level 30-40)

FFXI is a horribly waste of time, i was playing very hardcore and then i suddenly realised "this isn't fun! it is a damn job!" i quit like the next day and never played it again.

I have never encountered such an enormous time commitment required to play a game.

    1. If you don't have a perfect group you are screwed... this means always a paladin for a tank, even the right job with the wrong subjob will gimp your group.

    2. Forced grouping + perfect group requirements = long waits for a group.  Not to mention most people were so retarded they would screw up your group even with the right class

    3. Death penalty... ok i don't mind having penalties in games, but with the INCREDIBLY slow leveling rate in ffxi, and the perfect group requirement, it happend on several occasions that i would play for a full day and have not made any progress by the end of the day.

    4. Horrible loot, most mobs don't even drop anything, and the only good drops are from mobs that spawn every 2-6 hours, and at any given time have about 3-10 people camping them, 24 hours a day... with about a 15% drop rate.

    5. The same exact mobs from level 1-75... this means you will be fighting little bunnies and fish for the entire 3000 hours you put into this game before you realise you were brainwashed.

    6. TINY WORLD... this wouldn't be as big of a deal if there was some other things in the game that were worthwile and exciting, but seriouisly i can run from San Doria to Bastok in like 10-15 minutes tops...  just too small for me.

    7. At level 7 everyone wears leather armor, at level 10 everyone wears one of 2 sets of armors, and the trend continues, everyone always wears the same armor and there is never many choices to make unless you want to gimp yourself. The only exception being at level 33-37 or so when you get racial specific gear, which has stats that builds on your races weaknesses.

In conclusion... i sujjest you play another game.

And BTW, i LOVED this game for the first few days i played it.. but as soon as you hit the 2nd zone it suddenly becomes a huge grind and you start to encounter forced grouping.

Ok i am done ranting :)

    Have a nice day.

took me two days to gain lv 10 with whm and two days to gain lv11 with War (I played 5-7h each day)

if you are lv 13 you should go and get some party now, then you will level up faster for a while

  • stsestse Member Posts: 34

Wow, smaku's post is almost a copy paste of another post he made before ::::31::.

And as a THF myself, the first 15 lvls are slow as hell. You die a lot and you don't get much invites. Basically, people think THF"s are useless until they hit 15, which I totally agree. Right now, I am doing approx 150 damage with Sneak Attack, which is ok damage compared to blms and other hard hitting DD jobs. But THF's later on are really important, especially in farming, or in finding rare items. They may look shitty with their daggers, but they do decent damage at a fast pace. Plus, SA and TA are great abilites people can't go without.

Bear with the slow paced action. This cannot be avoided. This is by far one of the slowest leveling MMORPGs i have played. But it makes sense in the perspective of SQUENIX and FF's. Getting to lvl 99 in other FF"s took a long time too (with the exception of ff6, ff8 and ff10). Do some quests here and there, get some gil while yo uare doing it and craft a bit. FFXI is not all about lvling, crafting is fun too "Sometimes"

    It's not a bug in the software, it's a feature =).

  • Free_DFree_D Member Posts: 52
Yea, but I think that they will have to make it easier for people to lv in FFXI if they want people to still play it. In WoW it takes 20h to get to lv 20 and in FF it takes at least twice as much time!

  • stsestse Member Posts: 34

I totally agree. Just Yesterday, I was trying to find a part in Khazam with my THF. I didn't get a single invite for 1.5 hours. So what did I do? Well, I started selling some useless equipment that I probably wasn't going to use anymore and started getting material for bonecrafting. So yes, leveling in FFXI is really slow and is very dependent on the group. You can't solo at my lvl and you won't be able to get anywhere without a party. However, the party experience is nice, but still way too slow compared to other MMORPG's out there.

Sigh, after hearing everyone at work talk about how good WoW is, it is getting harder and harder to resist. But, if you like to feel a good sense of accomplishment when you get to lvl 75 and do most of the quests, then you should stick with FFXI.

    It's not a bug in the software, it's a feature =).

Well, I'm gonna stick to FFXI no matter what. Even if the leveling is slow, but there is always something to do when you wait for a pt. Sometimes you can solo in close by areas, or you can craft or something. Or just wait and do something else IRL while waiting. Yea, it's true that you can't go far solo (without potions)... If only potions were cheaper everything would be fine. I've also heard that WoW is great but when I say to them "Why is it so great" they only come up with things that you alreayd can do in FFXI or other MMORPG. I think that people who just love warcraft are overreacting about how good WoW is. But who knows, I've never played it myself but if you compare the games remind of eachother very much.
