I don't know if I dare believe my eyes but the NCsoft community team just tweeted that the English version of Aion will launch with the latest update patch 1.5. See it here. Sweet! ^_^
And this is a surprise, why? NCSoft is no amateur gaming company like Funcom or Mythic.
I don't get why everyone is so excited about...with each patch NCsoft carebears the hell out of this great game, they have gimped rifts, they have offered an alternate to PVP end game...they basically handed it over to the babies. I want danger I don't want to feel safe, and right now the Korean version is a great big hug fest....why can't they give us L II PVP? This game is going to be ruined by carebears and Role Players. Epic fail NCsoft...Epic fail.
oh be quite and be gone with your rants. News flash: Kaion & NA/EU aion is the same dam game, same content.
Try to use the noodle in your head next time.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

Because they are working on Lineage 3 go cry that way. Aion was always supposed to be more casual then the Lineage series.

Because the general consensus was that we should be expecting to launch with 1.2 and there was confusion on what was 1.3, heck I'm still confused what's what. But whatever it's nice to know we won't be behind Korea and there was fear of that too.
To note NCsoft is not perfection so you'll excuse the enthusiasm on something done right. :P

You're acting like NCSoft simply removed PvP altogether. It is still a PvP centric game - they simply gave those that don't want to PvP - or better yet, those that are tired of PvPing for a moment - an alternative. Don't worry, people won't have trouble finding the opposite faction to fight.
Course, the way you're talking (in this thread and the other you started, cause you wanted to be heard, I s'pose) it sounds like you won't be playing. That's fine too.
This is indeed great news. My only concern is that given a strict non-negotiable schedule the localization quality has more potential to drop for the newer content.
Having played a bit in the C-Aion, I think some of the changes to PvP are needed. Its not about making it a care bear game, but just putting in some measures to reduce griefing and ensuring people can play.
I mean right now, you can go to starter towns and lock it down as the low levels can't touch high levels. They get no Abyss Points for it, so there is no reward accept to be an ass to people. So if they want to make it where people start getting crippled for doing this, I think its a move in the right direction. Plus it should push them out to where the areas where competitive PvP is taking place.

False, You cannot go to the other factions starting area. If you ever played the game or did some research you would know this.

NCSoft continues to impress me. It's actually making me really nervous. Somebody w/ a head on there shoulders has started to make some pretty good calls when it comes to this port.
Now if they just keep the NA/EU versions up to date w/ the Koreans, I'll be really impressed.
damn nice, was hoping we'd atleast be close to koreas aion. or atleast get us to where they added more character customizations. 1.5 will deffinitly have that

Forgive the mistake in terminology, I am referring to the starting towns as the first towns which have rifts and PvP, like Elten. There is no greifing in areas like Interdicta, as the players there are high enough level to push back. But in places like Elten, they are in their 20's and level 45 characters can just mow them down.

They're also implementing some sort of punishment, I believe. While not very tight, there's some sort of repercussion, something along the lines of not being able to use rifts, having your name, your level and your location broadcasted to the enemy, so that they know to come find you, etc. etc.
Also, you don't get AP from such a wide margin, I don't believe. I may have to find the notes on AionSource. Betaboards will be up in a few hours, though.
My original post was backing the implementation of such changes with the patches, in regards to PvP, as they are not killing the PVP or turning it into a Carebare game.
Yes there will be penalties for killing players who are many levels below you. They will not block such actions, but make it more managable as you will be pinged for location and receive debuff which will make it more of a pain/danger than it is worth.
You do not get any AP points for doing such, the only thing you get out of it is the pleasure of griefing. Again, why the changes and pentalties for killing are a good change.
Ver. 1.5 in the Eur/NA release is very good news. No, it was a necessity indeed.
Following the reports by Chinese players, AION-CN (v1.0) is on the verge of fail. From lv. 30 onwards it's a mob grind and player burnout looks very heavy. Even with WoW-CN out of combat for more than one month due to distributor change, Aion-CN future looks grey.
But I fear this version upgrade won't be enough to make Aion successful in Eur/NA. If active measures are not taken against farmers and bots, it will be all for nothing. Even the old Lineage 2 players may not be disposed to encounter and fight against such controversial situation again. The reports about Abyss Point farming also sound very discouraging. Any mindless farming for the sake of farming is discouraging in general
I can see the game a big success, depending on the value and effectiveness of NCSoft support.

I wouldn't look at Aion-CN as a good measure for the end game success. The biggest problem with it not being patched up to date is the level cap of 45. The grind isn't all that horrible, but most of the fun and enjoyable things people normally take part in while playing a MMORPG cannot be accomplished.
- Many bosses drop loot which is level 46-50, thus cannot be used so no real point in killing.
- The Upper Abyss Fortresses have level 50 Elite guards, so because of damage reduction due to people being 45 makes it very difficult and almost impossible to capture them due to the 2 hour window.
- Becoming an expert crafter requires you to complete Exams, which means making a HQ version of a level 48-50 item. It would not be that bad, but the materials for such are intended to drop to be rare drops from level 46+ mobs. Right now, there aren't places to obtain them solo (accept for the Core abyss where its like constant PvP), and group places are very limited. Long story short, unless you want to buy gold, have your entire Legion supply you or get lucky as all get out, crafting is stalled and doesn't have much purpose.
So yeah, with the current 1.0, no boss hunting, limited fortress sieges, and stalled farming for crafting I don't find there is much to do and its really boring.
When these are possible, the game will have things to do again and something to look forward to obtaining.
