When I was in middle school I played a paper and pencil rpg called Palladium, which in my opinion was actually superior to 3E D&D. I doubt it's been done but I would love to find an mmo based on that ruleset. Failing that, something with a good solid crafting system would really hit the spot.

I sadly am not familiar with Palladium. I'm sadly not familiar with anything but forum-based RP (and MMOs, obviously). No one around my area would play P&P when I was a kid, which always irritates me when I think about it. Whenever I brought it up to my friends they'd look at me like I was an idiot. Oh well, their loss.
Onto the subject at hand, I can name a few MMOs with decent crafting.
Vanguard: Very in-depth.
Everquest 2: Also very in-depth.
Ryzom: It's different, I enjoy it. The harvesting is really in-depth and the crafting is really good as its dependent on the quality of the materials you harvest.
These are the three systems I've enjoyed the most over the years.
And like I keep telling everyone, Ryzom has a 23 day trial, if you've never tried it, give it a shot!
I've heard good things about ryzom. Unfortunately my financial resources are very limited at the moment so I'm restricted to f2p games. I should have mentioned that.
I have high hopes for Aion's Crafting. SWG crafting is good but there is little to no market for the products. It also uses a variable resource quality like Ryzom. Vanguard's Crafting is excellent. The rest of the game is getting better also. You can even make and sail ships.
Rifts, Heroes Unlimited, Beyond the Supernatural, Ningas and Superspies, Nightbane.
I want an MMO for every Paladium game made.
Teenage Mutant Ninga Turtles: After the bomb would cool as well.
I heard that a Robotech MMO may be in the works. Paladium did the PnP version of it.
I loved the Paladium games as a kid.
As Splinki said EQ2 crafting is fun. Sort of a mini game each time you craft something. Of the games ive played i like that craft system the best.
That's really quite a shame! Of course, I should mention that it's got an amazing free trial, almost a months worth (three weeks actually) and then if you like the game after that, it's only $10.95 USD a month, which is really not bad, considering most are $14.99. You'd be saving $3-4!
It's a good game, I think if you're really looking to try something new, I'd at least give the trial a shot. 23 days is a long time to play for free!
yes me and my friends that played the PnP games talk about this all the time we loved how you could take a Robotech character and port them to any other game world by tweaking there stats and damage output that would rock. or just make a avatar you can port to all the game worlds in the palladium univers that would be sweet.
think about that one day you are in TmnT world and then get sick of grinding xp there just port your avatar to Robotech and then you are flying around in your Adanced Veritech Fighter
as GM for my friends that gave endless ways of changing any of the game we were playing one weekend we are busting the Foot clan in Tmnt then a worm hole would open and port them to a crazy Rift world was so much fun.
