See I can answer your question easily. I do like a wide range of mmorpgs, including sandbox games, and even though Darkfall is not yet there I still have a sliver of hope that it will become what Tasos has claimed it was for the past few years. See unlike you I want the complete package I want a fun fulfilling game with a company that is at least somewhat honest and open with their client base. I am hoping that with the release of this expansion, new web page and a new server that Aventurine might be starting to become what I want. I won't be going to MO due to the fact I don't like full time First person mode. I still think that game will be better than this one htough. However due to my own likes and dislikes this may be the only game to be a sandbox fantasy based I could like, if and only if Aventurine gets their act together Right now Darkfall is a shallow game. I am hoping that soon it will become more. That is why I am here. What is your excuse. All you claim you want is to play the game. You never have anything constructive to say about the game nor do you talk about it. You just qq about what everyone else is saying. With statements like " I don't understand, why don't we just talk about the game"(Paraphrasing) Yet you never talk about the game. So why don't you start a thread to talk about the game? Lets see how far that thread goes. I bet it won't go far till people start putting down the game, which I have not yet. Just the company or fanbois like you.(Yeah yeah, your not a fanboi, you just play games). So now oyu know why I am here. UNDERSTAND?
It just occured to me when I went out to lunch
you said "more money = good games"
I said "more money doesnt no = good games"
you said "more money doesnt mean good games 'FOR YOU' you need to put it in terms of you.../etc.etc etc
but somehow the exact inverse of that statement which you made is a truth that doesnt just apply "to you" just my statement.

Let's try doing this your way....
So, what you're saying is that companies who have less funding make better games.
Now, let's apply a bit of logic to the original line of thinking that more money = better games.
If company 'x' has $100,000 (or whatever currency you prefer). It is understood that the $100,000 can pay for a specific amount of overhead and personnel.
Now, let's say company 'x' get's a publisher that furnishes them with another $100,000. So, now we are looking at company 'x' have $200,000 versus having $100,000. One could thoerize, with a fair level of certainty, that the higher dollar amount would allow the company to throw more resources, be them personnel, time or equipment, into the project they are working on in this case the code...or game...or coded game...
Company 'x' in this scenario clearly has less money then NCSoft, Blizzard, or SOE for example, but then Company X is not developing NCsoft, Blizzard, or SOE's games so that is really irrelevant. With more money, company 'x' can make company 'x's game better.
It's really a pretty straightforward, simple, and accurate equation. When you throw in distractions like WoW, you really drift off the original point. I imagine that was pretty much the idea though so congrats on that.
Now, with all that settled, any new info from the devs/publisher since that was one of the original points of this thread?

No, You mean to say "More money does not equal better games for me". Don't assume that everyone here thinks like you do, or likes the same things you do. But for what you are replying to. See if Darkfall gets more money they can have the chance to hire more developers, or increase their servers to handle more and better game mechanics ( I mean code for you). In which case you could have an even more fulfilling gaming experience. Do you understand? But of course you don't care about making the game better, that would mean we arenot talking about the game. Ow well like Darkfall 1 step forward 2 steps back.
More money does not equal better game for me...correct
I personally have not been impressed with the big studio games, I assume you are. If that assumption is correct then it means you have a much larger selection of games YOU like to play then I do. Which begs the question...why are you here?
About 2 weeks ago, quite coincidentally, I reinstalled this game called Neverwinter Nights. I kid you not. I really did. Yes, I threw up a little when I read that you've taken a break from DFO to play with NwN.
So,
You've taken a break from DFO.
You're playing NwN.
NwN was made by this studio called Bioware.
I have these other games. Baldur's gate. Both one and two, plus the expansions. They were also made by that studio Bioware.
All of these excellent games.
Care to say again that you aren't impressed with big studio games?
You're also wrong.
More money doesn't GUARANTEE a better game. But for a lot of studios it def. improves thier chances of developing one. More money doesn't just mean more devs. It can mean BETTER devs, more EXPERIENCED devs. Better and more experienced artists, etc. etc.
More money often means better games, but doesn't always guarantee it.
BTW, the "big studios" have been consistantly putting out award winning games. They also put out a lot of crap too.
CAUSE THEY HAVE MORE MONEY.
More money also means that a studio can produce more games.
DFO is crap because it's crap. Av is a horrible company that produced a bad game. Give them more money and they would be a horrible company with more money to produce a bad game. Money has nothing to do with Av producing a bad game. A little or a lot, the game is the game, and it sucks.
And it's not an expansion. It's a patch.
They are only calling it an expansion because it's taking them a month and a half to put it out.
Maybe if they had more money they could hire more people to code and the patch could have made it out on time and sooner.
what expansion? and where I can find info about it? I even tried the official website and found squat. I did a search in both sites, the official and MMORPG. But with so many trolling threads I gave up.
I already bought the EU client. At the time it wasn't called the EU client it was called the Darkfall client with a EU server. I sure as fuck ain't paying another 50 bucks to play the same damn game I've been playing for the last few months. I'll spend my 50 bucks on MO instead. I think a LOT of people have the same mindset as me. Goodbye Darkfall.

No legit company has ever NOT put out what an expansion will contain months in advance. This is just more Bull Shite from Av and their lying bitch Tacos.
Of course you slavering sycophantic lap licking 12 year old failbot shills will eat this up but what do you expect from tards that think pablum is Vichyssoise?
Has anyone stopped to think that maybe DF is getting a huge company to puslish NA DF? Like... so huge that everyone would know it's name. And maybe that name would be SOE? And that maybe if that name that dare not be spoken were actually spoken in an official context, the stampede to exit would be worse than a Who concert from 1976.
I'm just saying, it's either or. It's either a po-dunk company or a huge one with a bad rep.

The one thing that was changed was the it went from 1 character per server to 1 character per account. No where did AV say that you'd be able to have a character on both regional servers on a single account. With that said you have a right to be pissed; however, you can reroll in 3 months and AV may be changing their stance and allow players to delete their character and just reroll on day 1 of the NA launch. I said might, that doesn't mean it will happen.

Yea I didn't mind when they announced that character transfers wouldn't happen for 3 months. I thought this was a fair and balanced solution to allow new players to get up to a level playing field with the rest of us. I was actually planning on starting a new character on the NA server and leaving my other one on the EU server, since at the time it WAS one character per server.
But with Adventurines bombshell of going to one character per account I can't even do that now. I wanted to be right in on the thick of things as new alliances were formed and territory was claimed. The diplomacy in this game and how your clan/alliances deal with territorial situations is the funnest part of the game IMO. I would of been happy to start a new character to be in on it from the start. BUT, there's not a snowballs chance in hell I'll pay an extra 50 bucks to do it.
I think it's too bad they are pulling this shit now, because I was really impressed with how far the game play has come along in the last 3 months I've been playing. Perhaps once they allow transfers I'll resub, but I'm not gonna play for another 3 months on the EU server when I don't want to be there in the first place.
Thanks for clarifying how they changed their position on characters/accounts. I was rather vague on that in my first response.
--------------------------------- Mean People Suck
As I've mentioned in my other posts, having separate accounts/billing for separate regions isn't unusual. Furthermore, Aventurine said they'd allow transfers and they will, albeit later than they implied in their tentonhammer.com interview. They never said the transfers would be free, so they haven't lied in that regard.
That being said, the one char/server vs. one char/account debacle is interesting. When it was one char/server, players assumed more servers would open up. By changing the wording, however, they've done two things:
Seemingly pulled a bait-and-switch, although the change is undoubtedly a CYA move since their new server will be managed by a different publisher.
Imply there will only ever be one world/region. After all, if another world were to open up within the same region, why wouldn't you be able to still have one char/server? So, it would appear that Aventurine doesn't intend to or doesn't have the player base or resources to open a new server within the existing region.
Has anyone stopped to think that maybe DF is getting a huge company to puslish NA DF? Like... so huge that everyone would know it's name. And maybe that name would be SOE? SOE prefers to make money. Darkfall wouldn't pull it's weight even as Station Pass filler.

No huge company is going to touch this abomination of a game. The game reaks of amateurism and no big company would want to be connected with that.
At most it will be an obscure publisher that noone has heard about.

I think you hit the nail right on the head here. I'd love to do some tracking when they announce the company that'll be publishing the NA version. Damn I can't wait till some new MMO's come out for me to try. The DF drama is fun at times but seriously, Steam is making way too much money off me lately.

I have one word for you: Vanguard. :P
One thing about SOE is that they would be announcing it all over the place that they were going to be publishing DF in NA and that it would be on StationPass. They would also be touting a revolutionary FFA PvP TCG and micro-transactions to go along with it. Past history has shown that they would rather sacrifice a loyal, existing player base while chasing the elusive crowd of subscribers and instant income.

As far as this observer can tell Its a big patch that they are pushing out the door a couple days before launching a new server in NA.
Thus far there has been no real information and ABSOLUETLY ZERO public acess to this "expansion". From what few details HAVE been released make it sound like more of a large patch designed to improve various aspects of the game vs a true "expansion".
I for one HIGHLY question the judgement of Aventurine pushing a large patch, (Or even worse an expansion) untested by the public immediatly before launching in a new continent.......... However I have questioned almost every other decision they have made since Febuary.
However I have questioned almost every other decision they have made since Febuary.
Wow do I feel old. I have been questioning the decisions or really lack thereof since the days of Razorwax when I signed up on their boards back in the 2001 timeframe.
Should be interesting to see the patch / expansion tomorrow. In fact don't you European players have it already for your EU client? After all it is the 6th over there already and we don't have an NA client available yet so we can't have the expansion yet. ROFLMAO..........
However I have questioned almost every other decision they have made since Febuary.

I for one don't really consider it an expansion unless it is adding a LARGE new Landmass new race/classes or other suitably big content updates. I'm sure there will be heated arguments about what exactly it is tomorrow IF it goes live. Big IF in my opinion.

Nor would most other people consider it an expansion without such additions.
My guess is it's going to be an update with possibly some new stuff... likely things that were hyped on their site for years but never made it in - the things their loyal defenders attempted to dismiss as "meaningless fluff", even as AV themself portrayed them as being far more significant in interviews, on the website, etc (the fans conveniently ignore such "minor details", of course). Wouldn't be surprised if they pull a Funcom with AoC, pretending it's all new content.
Also, it seems to me they're using the word "expansion" because it makes it sound more impressive than "update" and carries more positive implications for the game. For exampe, a game receiving an expansion is assumed (by those who don't know better) to be doing well enough to justify it... Releasing an expansion means that the game is growing substantially (again, to those who don't know better). In this scenario, putting out an expansion "so soon" conveys the message (again, to those who don't know better) that AV are really on the ball.
To put it another way...
I don't think "expansion" means what AV is pretending it does.
It's just more marketing spin and BS from them.
Of course, sadly, the only people who will buy it are those who put on the Tasos-colored lenses a long time ago and refuse to remove them.

Mean People Suck
As I've mentioned in my other posts, having separate accounts/billing for separate regions isn't unusual. Furthermore, Aventurine said they'd allow transfers and they will, albeit later than they implied in their tentonhammer.com interview. They never said the transfers would be free, so they haven't lied in that regard.
That being said, the one char/server vs. one char/account debacle is interesting. When it was one char/server, players assumed more servers would open up. By changing the wording, however, they've done two things:

wait...expansion???....when did this happen?

SOE prefers to make money. Darkfall wouldn't pull it's weight even as Station Pass filler.
i still think it's some fake company set up by AV to drain some more bucks out of the american df community. but only time will tell - i can't wait, forumfall is a bit boring the last days, we need new drama!

Dem hibbies! Dey be wrong!

ROFL! Funny you just happened to mention the three games I just recently dusted off and reinstalled :} BG1-2 And NWN lol.
Got tired of FO2, the lost content mod is nice thought if you havnt tried it, it introduced content that didnt make the game release.
I'm glad the general populace isn't letting Tasos lipservice stand.
Darkfall does not have an expansion.. it's a patch and a new server. Big deal.
