I Love Aion <3

SetsunakaiSetsunakai Member Posts: 15

ive gotten to level 13 on a glad and an assassin and im fucking loving the shit out of this game

The Combat in this game is refreshing and challenging where i will have to time certain skills and put them in order to get the most out of my DPS it feels "active" and rewarding (unlike Sinister Strikex5 +eviscerate for DPS)

Ex. Assassin chain against a 4 dot mob solo @13 (TBuff1+Stealth+Backstab+Chain1A+Chain1B+Dash+EvadeChain1A+EvadeChain1B+Backstab+Chain2A+TBuff2+Chain1A+Chain1B+Chain2B)

The Quest are put together rather neatly and presented to you like a mission dossier from the local sheriff and actually feel meaningful with nice XP,item, equip rewards. I think the separation of "story" and "side" mission help deliver a clearer view of the happenings around the area where the "story" tells about the epic struggles of your people and their mortal enemies and the "side" mission is about helping random ppl in their daily lives (Ex You wont feel like your thrall's errand boy unless you choose to do his side missions, which you can skip in Aion unless its important)

The Grind isnt actually that bad it takes like 4 hrs of casual play to get your wings and be a deava (lvl 10), and past that it takes about 100 monster kills to get to the next level where a story quest turn in is around 15% of your bar and a side mission is 8-10%; the combat isnt slow its "active" which might make it feel like its a long time but really your so concerned about whats going on that it kinda stresses you out, but in a good way. you get better skills each level up, and new skills every other level up or so, so you always have something to look forward to

The World is beautiful in both arrangement and graphics, lush and full of life; ive yet to be bored with my surroundings. Characters and armor/weapons are beautiful rendered and feel dynamic and not just new skins put on your body without a model placement. Character creation makes each Player customized (although all the faces are EAsian you can tweak them to make them more to the race you want with the advance slider feature)

Looking Forward to PVP with PVE combat being so fun im kinda really stoked about trying it in PVP, Abyss system looks pretty awesome seeing as its supposed to make endgame be from 40-50 instead of just at max level, instances look fun and i want to see what they are like with a group of ppl, and finally the keep system and legions in general

Theres still some bugs to work out but all in all from what i can tell its a pretty solid game, ive played alot of games recently (EQ2,Vanguard,AoC,WoW, L2,War) and can state that this is a well thought out and put together game, the best so far imo, Ill be playing this game as long as the servers are up and there is atleast 1 asmodian to kill in the abyss; Dont be intimated by this game cause its from korea, its not hard and is really enjoyable

Not at all, For the assassin setting up the initial backstab is pretty essential, let me build upon what i said before

Tbuff1: there is a temporary buff which afaik increases the dmg of the next ability used within 10secs by 50%

Tbuff2: there is a temporary buff which afaik increases the dmg of all abilities used within the next 5secs by 40%

Stealth: doesnt last forever and you can't use a buff in stealth (or it will break)

Backstab: does like 60 dmg (plus 120 more if used behind the target [you can actually waste the backstab !_!])

Chain 1: @13 consists of 2 steps each doing about 120 dmg ish

Chain 2: is applying a mark to a target than detonating it for some dmg

Dash: is actually a move to get closer (think charge) but will add some dmg ontop of your combo chains

Evadechain1: starts with an ability that forces a parry (think of a single use evasion) and then using a reactive counter attack (think reposte) to stun the target for a (heart wrenching) brief 3 seconds that you can backstab them one more time

So essentially i put my Tbuff 1on then jump into stealth (30sec timer on stealth and 10Sec on Tbuff1), perform my backstab from behind the target, start up with the opener of Chain1 and finish it with the stage 2, hit dash attack for some extra dmg, either wait for the enemy to perform a special ability or just hit the evade button, parry the next move and stun the mob with the reactive ability, get behind him for a quick backstab, hit the opener for the Chain2, Cast Tbuff2, chain1a, chain1b, and finish him off with Chain2B (if your feeling adventurous you can do this in the sky even)

putting all this together is the basis of combat in Aion and if this isnt new and challenging i would really like to know what godly MMO im missing out on :D

Is the combat system the only thing most people care about, and not the graphics, storyline, and music? Why not just find another game with better PvP gameplay, because I don't understand why the majority of complaining is just combat and PvP.

  • SetsunakaiSetsunakai Member Posts: 15

no ones really experienced PvP yet (besides the impatient few playing the old version in china) afaik (it starts at 25) so i can't really put much stake in what ppl have to "say" about it, but i will listen to speculations; from what ive read it seems like its gonna be pretty tits. I honestly can't see how people could complain about combat in this game it just "feels" right all the way down to the auto attacks, unless they're lowbies and haven't gotten to mess around with the more advanced moves</p>

The concept art is gorgeous and I've only seen glimpses of gameplay (emotes are kinda weird IMO), but it's just kind of a shame that most players only care whether the killing is good enough, and they do nothing but gripe about it. Sure I want the gameplay to be good, but I would love to just fly and run around to drink in the environment. They put a lot of effort into the graphics and music.

very much enjoying it too.. already very addicted

The graphics may be a step up from other f2p games, but the textures are really low quality.  Actually i was kind of dissapointed with the graphics...i thought asain games where suppose to be a cut above in that department.

Mabey someone who has played the asian version can put my worries to rest and explain if this beta has no high texture quality setting (someone who knows what high quality texture resolution looks like actually).  If you want to see what a high quality texture looks like (and have the rig to do it) try out vanguard or even better aoc for comparison, right now those games blow aion out of the water graphics wise.

Its a fun game, and a new flavor of the same old stuff....which is good and bad.  If your looking for something new, i dont htink this will do it, however its easy to walk into the game and start going.  The combat, and overall gameplay is straight out of 2004 and theres really no character building to speak of, its all done automatically. This means theres almost no learning curve to speak of.  Again thats not really a negative.

Kinda ticked over the absolute uselessness of flying and the lack of an open world, along with the complete lack of characterbuilding.

So level 25 is where the pvp starts....right now thats looking like the onlything that might actually keep my interests in aion.....now i just gotta grind a bit more to get there.

i was really trying to stay as neuteral on my reviews of aion as possible, at least untill i pvp (aside from lag ladend duels) but the game is really feeling like an average game....oh and my sorc is seemingly nerf ready, as he seems really op'ed in 1vs1 duels...perhaps i was dueling idiots though.

Yes exactly, its the design of the world that hooks me. there is something beautiful to look at around every corner. if i cant feel immersed in the world i just see no point playing.

mm if you got a fairly new machine this game look good

some ui choice of texture are a la asian but its to be expected

if you played guild wars recently you ll be like thats it wheres the rest of the polish

at least its how i felt

compared to lineage 2 its an awsome game

i was going to buy collector but if and thats the biggy if i buy this i ll buy regular version

its worth the cheapest price you can find

it is not worth it to buy collector in my view

this game is hard to compare to wow for one big reason

wow is cartoon style so even if blizzard changed it

and we played it on biggest machine it will look and feel the same

the closest game i can think that compare to aion is lineage 2 ,guild wars  you know along those line

and in that market it is a good game

    having sleeped a bit

i have to admit i tend to lean on the cartoon, anime style of mmo

so for me or anybody to try to compare it to wow or rune of magic

was and is unfair, its like comparing a car from the movie car and compare it to a real nascar

    totally unfair

does it mean one is better then the other

    on the look side nope

    1 is cartoon anime

the other is the real deal they re just different

me i love cartoon anime style

I'm so damn addicted too. I wonder what trolls expect to see in an "inovative combat experience", what do they want? Aion is fast paced - some of your skills are buffs that last only for like 5 seconds or the next attack you receive/deal, some of your skills are combo chains that are triggered by another skill or a block/dodge/parry. The monsters aren't something that die in 5 seconds, they are challenging so there is no true easy mode.

Aion succeeds not because it reinvents the MMO genre, but because it is done right in a fun manner. It's just that some people are used to seeing a not-so-RPG environment, quests are engaging, leveling is not in any way comparable to as easy as WoW or as hard as L2 (stop this BS that a MMO only truly starts to be fun when you reach the level cap that you can get in 3 days, if you feel like you're working without fun on the previous levels you might as well as not play it).

Because the beginning was so generic and didn't offer anything new, the outlook for the rest of the game, despite getting wings, isn't good. I played up to level 15 on my Chinese beta account few months back, and the experience was dreadfully plain and boring. You get the wings, have a 5 minute "wow" factor before you realize they're extremely limited and pointless before Abyss PvP.

the combat is innovative no matter what people seem to troll about. i really like the combat on my templar wich plays alot different than tanks in other games. kinda feels like they DW a sword and shield, and they actually do more dmg with the sword and board. the triggers and procs makes the combat fun for me, and at 16 when i got the next upgrade for the passive shield block, he really started doing alot more dmg. the more i block the more i can use my shield attacks. kinda keeps you on your toes watching for the shield attacks to unlock.and i'll kinda keep moving backwards to further buff my block chance from the movement buffs they have in the game.

I was hooked by level 8 myself.  At level 12 im still in awe of the graphics and for the GW guy i have and play it also and the difference in graphics is clear to see.

I hope the crafting system rocks, because that's a big thing I love to do in MMORPGs.

I ordered the standard edition of Aion from gamestop.com a couple days ago and I'm still waiting for a beta key e-mail. I hope I get to try it out a bit.

From what ive seen you can train to craft everything until you reach a certain crafting level then you choose what craft you wish to pursue. Crating is done at tables in the capitol city, there my be tables elsewhere as well but i havnt seen them.

You might not get your key this weekend, but you'll be able to try it out in the 4th Closed Beta Weekend (whenever it is)

Another poster posted this, and it has a good description/overview of crafting.  It's about 1/4 of the way down the post, section "II"...  I think it will be worthwhile from a monetary standpoint and crafting, at least for consummables, seems like it will surely be useful and probably reasonably profitable.

What I want to know from players who have actually been playing the game (chinese client), how frequently are players using food?  How useful is it really?  It appears like it will be about in the range of FFXI's food benefit, but I'm wondering if NA players will use it.  I know FFXI players will, but there are players from other MMO's who might totally ignore food, though Alchemy's draw/benefit is obvious.

Anybody know if food consumption is somewhat comparable to people buying/using pots/etc.?  Personally, I haven't found the need to use it, or even much benefit, during the beta's lower lvls, but that's because I'm playing fairly casually and I'm still in the mid-teens.  I'd like to hear what people who have played past Lvl 25+ have experienced.

Generic? how so, The scenery is beautiful coupled with a pretty badass story of a fallen warrior who has to reclaim his honor after being beaten by the enemy.

Your other major point is that wings are largly pointless till level 25? well you can play around with them for 15 levels; would you rather they didn't and just made all the aerial quests, ground based instead of changing it up? I mean yea its a little jarring at first when you realize you can't just fly everywhere but hey, if you could you wouldn't appreciate much of the landscape any adult will get over this slight limitation and understand why the developers chose to do this instead of just making it an endgame type of deal

I'm also falling for this game, it feels like the good stuff is just piling up and I'm kinda just waiting for something really bad to come and knock me in the face :P Yeah the flying was a little dissapointing seeing how flying is one of the big advertisment for this game, but I got past that Its not that big.

I like the other aspects of the game, its already been said so I wont ramble it up all again.

In short I'm really enjoying the game sofar in the beta and I'm looking forward to the release =)

You may love Aion, but I love it even more!

Apparently this game has a great fun factor, a poll on the Aion beta forums (you know, with people that actually are playing the game, not in a forum where everyone is welcome to troll it without even playing it for five seconds) show that over 90% of the voters will or already bought Aion or aren't sure yet, but believe they will.

http://betaboards.aiononline.com/showthread.php?t=7865&page=5 the poll is here for those of you who have beta access. Sure, this poll can't be a solid fact but it might be shocking for some that the majority that try it seriously actually enjoy the game.
