Building Computer for Aion, First PC Build

TygrrTygrr Member Posts: 29

Hi Everyone!

I am trying to build a good smooth running performance PC for Aion.  This is my first PC build and I could use some friendly advice/help from the people here at MMORPG. Some of my question may seem simple and noobish, but please bare with me. I am new to building and don't know much.

Aion Reccommended Requirements.

Processor: AMD Athlon64 X2 4200+ /

Intel Core 2 Duo E4400

Display Card!: ATI Radeon X800 Series 256MB /

NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Series 256MB

Memory: 2048MB

Free Disk Space: 15GB

Operating System: Windows XP SP2 / Vista

Here is what I am thinking of putting together, and this is where I need your help. I am not 100% sure with some of the parts weather they are compatible or not, or if you can suggest something else.

M2N-SLI Deluxe 570 SLI  (Already bought this and trying to make my build around this Mobo)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750 Black Edition Processor

500Gb Westren Digital HD

4GB Corsair XMS DDR2-800mhz Twinx Memory

Cooler Master 600 Watt PSU

Vista 64 Bit OS

As for the graphics I am really confused on what to get. My Mobo says its PCI-E has X16 slot. I was looking at a few cards and all the cards that I want are PCI-E 2.0. I'm I be able to use PCI-E 2.0 card on my Mobo, or do I have to get a board that supports 2.0 As for the cards I am going to stick with Nvidia because my board supports SLI just in case I want to add a second card.

I am trying to find the best GPU for MMO games. Here are some I had in mind. Which one do you think would be my best bet for the dollar and performance with my build.

Geforce 8800 GT

Geforce 9800 GTX

Geforce GTX 280

I am trying to build this PC on a budget so If you have any thoughts, ideas or suggestion that could help me save and be cost effective please reply. Thank you everyone in advance for helping me out.

Looks fine, you would probably want the 9800 GTX+ or a GTX 260 for that, 9800 GTX+ would be my recommendation based on how much you're spending on the other parts.

Also you can use Windows 7 for free for a year then just buy it instead of Vista once the free phase is over. Just download it from microsoft.

I don't think my Mobo is compatible with the Phenom II x4. I believe that my Mobo is for dual cores only but I can be wrong.

I take it that I can put a PCI-E 2.0 in my mobo correct?

Also thanks for the reccommendation on the G.Skill sticks(LuckyPotato) and 9800 GTX(Noquarter)

The CPU luckypoptato is recommending is socket AM2+, you're mobo is socket AM2. The processor is compatible, however, your motherboard will hold the processor back because it's an older generation board.

Otherwise, that's a pretty solid CPU, very good for gaming.

As that guy said, and also, you cant run a 280 GTX on less than 650W, at least not good (Source: Nvidias homepage). Great GFX card otherwise, I use it myself.

The 8800 and 9800 are kinda getting old now, particulary the first. You could of course SLI them but that will probably not help you in Aion, I doubt that it supports SLI, I don't think any MMO does. Besides are a 280 GTX superior to a 2 9800 anyways.

A great graphic card is kinda the engine in a gaming computer and is the wrong place to save money.

    Good luck

Okay, I am dumping my Asus M2n-SLi deluxe board...figured its a bit old and out dated.

Just bought a Asus M4a79 Deluxe,

    Here my revise PC build

    Athlon 64 X2 7850 Black = $70

    Asus M4a79 Deluxe Mobo =$110

    G. Skill DDR2 4GB (2X2GB) 1066 =$50

    Geforce 9800 GTX+ = $130

    Westren Digital 640GB 7200RPM = $70

    Corsair 750W PSU = $120

    Total Cost of Build =$550

Good build? Thinking of pulling the trigger and ordering this stuff on Monday. If any other suggestions let me know. Thanks. =)

Thanks for all the inputs Noquarter,Luckypotato,Heartless,Loke666

    My suggestions click

I see nothing wrong with your build and PCI X16 is a PCI 2.0 slot that has 16 piplines instead of 8 or 1. Which in normal speak means your GPU will communicate faster with the computer. Also get a pc tool kit if it's your first time. Yes it is compatible, anthing that uses a PCI slot is compatible.

Drop the 7850 for an AM3/AM2+ Athalon II 250 ($85) or Phenom II 550 ($105).  Much better performance (bus/Cache)

If you are going the AMD route get an ATI.  You can nab a ATI 4850 for $90 buck or so and it will run better than the 9800... that and with the Athalon II or Phenom II you can use the Dragon Platform (lil bit better cpu to vpu performance)

    my 2 cents

I agree with this ^ - spend the extra few bucks and go with the 250 or 550 - its a better performing chip and worth a few extra dollars.   With a combo deal, you can get the 550 + a decent mobo for just a tad over $200 at Newegg - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.211696

I did some research , and will probably go with the "Dragon Platform" setup, seems like it will bring all my hardware to the highest and best potenial.   Newegg.com has a Cpu and GPu combo and both are for $350

Which one would be best for my board. My board is M4a79 Deluxe has AM2+/AM3 optimized and uses DDR2 memory

    A) Phenom II 945 Deneb 3.0 AM3 socket / Sapphire Radeon 4890  =$360

    B) Phenom II 940 Deneb 3.0 AM2+ socket/ Sapphire Radeon 4890 =$360

They seem pretty simular, and I dont really know the difference between the two. Most AM3 sockets runs off DDr3 Memory correct? I was leaning more on getting Combo B because its AM2+ and I have DDr2. It would seem to bring the most potenial out of the CPU if i stuck with AM2+ and DDr2 memory correct?

The 940 & the 945 are essentially the same chip.  The 940 only works in AM2+ motherboards and is a "Black Edition" which tends to be better for overclocking.  The 945 will work in either an AM2+ (DDR2) or AM3 motherboard (DDR3) so its a bit of a wash.  If you already have an AM2+ mobo and DDR2 you could use either.

Its pretty much a wash.    If you want to overclock, go with the 940, If you want to futureproof your CPU to a degree, go with the 945.

The 720 is not as good as the 955/940 but this is a REALLY good deal on new egg.  $200 bucks for a mobo and CPU

720 is a good OCer too
