I was going to roll Asmodian, but just can't get over how they slump back when standing idle for a few seconds....  So, plain ol' boring Elyos it is, I guess.  Oh well, hopefully more ppl gravitate toward Asmodians so I can still play on the underdog side of the coin.

sadly, i cant stand the mullet running down the backs of the asmodians. other than that the race looks badass with a badass world. guess i'm going to roll with the beach bums. they dont have back hair that looks aweful and clips through everything. ugh.

I really like the Asmodians, but I found a guild I'll probably roll with that are going Elyos.

I think Elyos, just because I find the sunny side of the world a bit more pleasing to run around in... not so dark and dreary....

I figured more would choose Elyos but the question is are the battle hardened pvper going to be Asmodian?

  • XavitaXavita Member Posts: 5

i was think most people would play the Asmodian but wow

  • neonwireneonwire Member Posts: 1,787

Why are people even discussing this? They are basicly both the same race except one is good and one is evil.

One poster above even said "plain ol' boring Elyos". Why are they boring? What because they're "good"? What makes Asmodian exciting then? Oh gosh let me guess.....its because they're evil isnt it.....and all the kids know that evil = da bestest eversssss....cos dey is evilllssss!

    Oh dear.

Only on mmorpg.com could someone actually create a poll about the choice of race in a game which only has two to choose from lol

Played both in beta and will play both on live.

    Just different classes.

    LineageII | LoTRO | RFO | 9Dragons | Aion | Perfect World | Ether Saga | Dungeon Runners | GuildWars 1 and 2 | Hellgate London | tCoS | Warhammer | AoC | Tabula Rasa | SWTOR

I will probably do the same, although I will likely favor one over the other. Which will more than likely be Elyos even though I voted "undecided". I don't favor either race over the other for any aesthetic reason, or because it's cool to be evil, or good... Both look cool in their own way IMO, and I tend to gravitate toward the under-played or underdog side.

Well if you would read about Aion lore even for one minute you would know that Asmodians are not at all the evil race. They are the ones that were thrown into darkness after the cataclysm and have evolved to adapt to the harsh enviroment- that doesn't make them evil. The poll is mostly for the reason of what you want your character to appear as and the game enviroment to play in.

That "one poster" was me.  And no, it's not because they're "good" that I think they are boring.  It's just the default look tends to remind me of Ken and Barbie blandness.  Yes, it's juvenile, but the more sinister look is just more appealing.  Evil does "= da bestest eversssss....cos dey is evilllssss!"  I also cheer for Darth Vader and despise Luke Skywalker, too.  If that makes me just another of "all the kids", then so be it.

I will, however, point out something about your automatic assumption that Elyos = good, Asmodians = bad... If you read the lore, it's unclear if the Elyos really are "good." They *believe* that they are good because they feel that Aion prefers/selected them after the great cataclysm, and they use the Asmodian plight as a clear sign from Aion about who did what during the destruction of their world.  But, the lore leaves it totally up in the air about what exactly happened at the meeting with the Balaur.

What's more, the game lore consistently mentions that the Elyos are arrogant and proud (which was, in Christian theology, the downfall of a certain angel known as "the morning star"/Lucifer/Satan)...  As I imagine you know, Lucifer was literally God's lead/champion angel, his very best and brightest before the fateful moment when Lucifer's pride convinced him to lead a rebellion of angels against their creator.

So, the whole "one is evil, one is good" dichotomy might work visually... but, I would guess if one race is truly to blame for the epic cataclysm, it will be one of the Elyos Empyrean lords ... but surely not Lady Ariel, so don't any of you Asmodian scum even suggest it!!! ;-P

*Still*, I won't deny that there are a lot of descriptions that potray Hell as a place of darkness, being far from the light of the creator and all of that jazz (some of it is not biblical canon... for example, Dante's "Inferno" or Milton's "Paradise Lost").  For instance, the 9th circle of Dante's Hell (i.e., where satan, judas, and those others guilty of betrayal are sent) is described as being unbearably COLD! because it's so far from the warmth of Godly love and all of that.  Of course, we're all used to thinking about the fire and brimstone stuff, but given their misfortune of being cast into a world of darkness and coldness, the Asmodians could just as easily be the evil ones too.  I won't deny the possibility.

If I were to guess though, I'm betting Elyos were responsible, if any single race truly was...  Either that, or something totally unexpected that we will all find out when we actually play the game and get there.  Maybe radicals on both sides, or even all three, conspired together to continue the war.  I can't wait to find out... argh, is it September yet?

Apologies. I didnt mean to have a dig at you.

Actually I'm well aware that good & evil isnt as clear cut in this game. Visually though it is very clearly defined in the game......but thats just to help get across the point that the two sides are opposed. I really liked the effort you put into that post though. Kudos points to you sir.

ever see how an elyos male scout stands? hands on their ass leaning back standing like a pregnant woman. and the elyos armor just looks gay as hell.the scout red and gold top end armor with the cute lil my lil pony unicorn on the shoulder is just special >.<

and from i seen asmodian will be the underdog.

asmodian all the way here, currently playing elyos tho on chinese retail but thats mainly due to the fact i couldn't find enough asmodians english speakers to play with. so deleted my 23 templar, 25 SM and 26 assassin and started all over elyos. wich was a pain in the ass takes a week to delete a character past lvl 20, but i see why its like that having friends that had their accounts hacked in WoW, and the asses not only stole everything they could but also deleted their characters just to be pricks

the elyos are plain and no its not because they're the "good guys" the armor and just everythign about them is boring. and they have this smug holier than tho mentality about them. and as some one else said Asmodian aren't evil so get your had out of your sterotypical ass.

  • MustaphaMondMustaphaMond Member UncommonPosts: 341

oh, I didnt' take it as a dig.  Just explained it was me so it didn't just seem like I was inserting my rambling about the devil/hell for no reason.  And, I'll be honest, I do feel a bit juvenile liking evil just because it's evil in other cases.  Heh.  But, it just feels so dang good to be bad, you know? ;^_^

Seriously, though... just too much time on my hands is all.  And I've been obsessing about the Aion lore, wishing I could play... (;>.<)

"good & evil isnt as clear cut in this game"... true

But based on your quote that I've highlighted in red, you're contradicting your "isnt as clear cut in this game". Why? Because if you state that it isn't clear cut in the game, but saying its visually clear cut in the game... you're substantially saying that good & evil isn't clear cut in this game? Please clarify your point... shades of grey are means of nullifying a solid/firm position. Is good & evil clear cut or not?

EDIT: And to MMORPG.com staff. Your ratings on members sucks. Your management quality is bad and I'm just here for your news. =P

Its funny because the reason the elyos want to genocide the asmodians is because since their god made them live in the shit hole of a place they live in up there where the stars dont shine it's obvious that Aion doesnt love them

Eylos.. I can already see from the %, imbalance FTW.  I wonder what playNC does when all of the launch Asmodeans get tired of getting zergrolled, and instead decide to reroll as Elyos.

  • ChickehChickeh Member UncommonPosts: 10

A mix of both, I suppose. I'm more likely to have my main on the Asmodian side, though. Maybe it's just me but I find the back hair endearing, hah. I liked the Elysean side of the world more, so I'll have an Elyos character, too. :)

There's a third faction in there to balance things out and run with the underdog if need be. And, oh yeah, annoy the hell out of everybody. :)

If you leave a keep undefended the Balaur npc faction will eventually take it. They might attack even if it is defended. From a devs interview I learned that they might even crash a siege and join one faction or the other or just stomp on everybody. (this last one is unconfirmed by players tho, as far as I've been able to research)

From what I heard on the other post from the cool korean guy who's been playing it from korean beta, it even seems that the ultimate Balaur boss is so tough that Elyos and Asmodeans should (and actually can) band together to take it down.

  • ValentinaValentina Member RarePosts: 2,108

    I will be playing both,

    Cleric, Ranger on Elyos

    Chanter, Assassin on Asmodian
