The music playing in the background of the main homepage is amazing, I know nobou will make this games soundtrack awesome. I haven't enjoyed a MMO soundtrack since UO. World of Warcraft is so ambient and boring but I think that ff14 will be great.

This is probably the lowest thing on my list of things I am hoping for heh. First thing I generally do when I log into an mmo for the first time is turn off the music. Not because it is bad, I just don't like listening to it.
I am trying to not get overhyped about this game. I don't want to be disappointed as I have been lately.
This. But it would be Funny if the launch, and failing, of the game gave a Big boost to FFXI...
If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

The music should be really good. The composer is apparently awesome and only did a few somngs for ff11.

Game will not fail.
SE is too big and powerful to make a game that for some reason or another will not keep higher number then FF11 has(which i consider a success) for many years to come.

Music interferes with Vent, so it gets shut off soon as I finish installing a game.

I also agree with you. Music is very underrated in the MMO experience, hence why most simply turn it off. Great music/sound, in relation to the type of game, can create a much more rich atmosphere. This is one aspect of all mmo's/sp games that is usually at a laughable level. The final fantasy series made this apparent over the years. I'm surprised no one picked up on that.
The music in most of the FF's has been fantastic. I am sure this will be the same. I personally love listening to the music in mmo's, I only turn it off if necessary.

Nobuo Uematsu has done every single Final Fantasy soundtrack and he is one of the most amazing if not the best video game composer. A lot of people can say bad things about Final Fantasy if they like but the music in those games are amazing and nobody can deny the series that! I link those sites down at the bottom because everyone should be informed of how much work this man has done and how amazing that work truely is!

I love good music in a game and hope that FF XIV. I did not ever play FF XI, but many of the other FF I have enjoyed. A recent game that music blew me away was AoC... unfortunately thats was one of the only things I liked from that title.
If you setup your Vent and music correctly you can have it reduce music in your game by like 80-90% when voice kicks in so it doesn't interrupt! Turning off music in any game to me is a waste, especially Final Fantasy music...love it very much!
How do you go about this?
Apparently awesome? Apparently...? Man, that's like saying "apparently Kobe Byrant/Lebron James/Michael Jordan are good at basketball." Um, Nobuo Uematsu is a god... that's a matter of undeniable fact. There is no "apparently" about it. ;^_^
Seriously, he is one of the best and most prolific composers in the industry, and I'm sure his work will be remembered years from now by music and game buffs alike...
Halfway decent biofilm type things. I find many of the ppl in the G4 one annoying, but w/e:
G4's "ICONS" on Uematsu (with poor audio, ironically enough): Part 1 -- Part 2
1UP's "Day in the Life": Part 1 -- Part 2
Some cool tracks (sorry so many from VI... my favorite of the series though):
FF "Main Theme" (live arrangement, Tour de Japon)
"Tina/Terra's + World of Balance's Theme" (OSV from VI)
"Tina/Terra's Theme" (live orchestrated version from Italy)
"Tina's/Terra's Theme" (excellent Roland Midi Keyboard remake by a fan)
"Celes' Theme" (OSV from VI --- "Love goes away, like night into day.
It's just a fading dream...")
"Overture + Aria di Mezzo Carattere" (OSV from VI --- a really cool operatic moment in game, it knocked my socks off when I first experienced it, especially the now cheesy sounding "vocals")
"Aria di Mezzo Carattere" (orchestrated, Tour de Japon)
"Aria di Mezzo Carattere" (w/ Italian vocals)
"Aria di Mezzo Carattere" (w/ Japanese vocals)
"Aria di Mezzo Carattere" w/ English vocals: Part 1 - Part 2
"Dancing Mad" (live arrangement of final boss music from VI, Sydney Opera House)
"Cyan's Theme" (OSV from VI --- "The world before the fall, Lovely is the light of dawn, Noble is the heart of man...")
"Cyan's Theme" (played entirely by a fan... cool)
"Melody of Lute" (OSV from IV)
"Melody of Lute" (Celtic Moon collaboration)
"Phantom Forest" (OSV from VI)
"Relm's Theme" (OSV from VI --- always makes me melancholy/nostalgic to listen to this one)
"Mog's Theme" (OSV from VI --- Kupo~!!!)
"Moggle's Theme" (N Generation arrangement of V's moggle music)
"Kefka" (OSV from VI --- "Nothing beats the sweet music of hundreds of voices screaming in unison!")
"Kefka" (Orchestrated --- "Life... Dreams... Hope... Where do they come from? And where do they go...? Such meaningless things... I'll destroy them all!")
"Kefka" (awesome time lapse artwork of Mr. Palazzo put to music)
"Black Mage Village" (OSV from IX)

And FYI, w/ no relation to music = how to piss off a moogle...
"I'm sharpening my knife, kupo." =D
I don't think that the music is something that will make or break a game but good music is definitely a bonus. I nearly always keep it on but will have it quiet when chatting on vent. I agree that there are some great tracks throughout the series.
I totally agree with you mustapha. Final Fantasy series just wouldn't be the same without Nobuo composing the music. i like every single track composed by him. What more can you ask when Nobuo now doing it for FFIV
When I played FFXI the music was off... (I didn't use voice comm then, I was on dial up at the time)
It's a matter preference, I disable the music in most of my PC games, not just because of TS/Vent, but because distracts from other important sound effects. I want to hear what is going on around me. But really it depends on the game.
Mulptiplayer games are pretty much instant off, Single player games on the over hand are 50/50.
Turning off on the Non-MMO FF games would kill the mood of the game and I would never do that... the music is to much a part of the enjoyment of those games....

Though I love music and find it really helps to immerse you in a gameworld if the music is good, I turned off the music in FFXI too. Anyone who has had to listen to Sandy's music over and over and over again knows exactly why it has to go (though XI has some decent tracks).
Hopefully, SE will do like Aion does and give you the option to have the BGM loop or just play once and go to silence until you enter a new area with diff. music. Also, having a few tracks to alternate with in a given zone helps, but that's harder to pull off, I suppose.
All in all, I didn't mind XI's music (some was great, some was disappointing/lacking), but when it is looped endlessly and you are listening to it for days on end, it gets old very fast.
after they merged with enix I have not been satisfied with most of their new games like The Last Remnant which was just bad imo. They were awsome when it was just squaresoft.
Well I only play the Final Fantasy games so I don't know a lot about the other games SE makes. But for the music, Nobuo only makes the music for the FF games for SE. Trust me, this game won't dissapoint. If you look at how polished and amazing FFXI is, FFXIV will be beyond polished and amazing.

The Combat or the story? I got it and have been enjoying it sofar but it is lacking in some areas... But I love the Combat.

Final fantasy and vent don't go together, it messes up the epic music with all the stupid talking.
I have to agree. I loathe voice chat while playing MMO's. I understand the need for it during the big fights, but there's no way I could run Vent full time and listen to a bunch of basement-dwelling mouth-breathers and their snort laughing.
Maybe I'm weird, but I rock out to "One Winged Angel" ( Sephiroth's theme ) and "Other World" ( the hard rock song from the opening scene with Tidus playing Blitzball when Sin destroys Zanarkand in FFX ) and "Final Battle" ( the last battle in FFX against Jecht/Sin ) all the time.
Have any of you ever been on the phone with tech support for WoW? They have the freaking Underworld Theme from the original Legend of Zelda playing when you are on hold and they claim it is something from the lich king or some crap like that.
I tend to use voice chat alot in MMO's but usually it'll only be with a few friends that I always party with. It saves time as you don't need to type and communicating with each other is alot easier. The music will usually be on quietly in the background.
I can understand why you dislike voice chat when it's just listening to a bunch of idiots rabbiting on or breathing down their mics. But generally if it's just chatting to a few friends while playing I find it enjoyable.
